Chapter 9

Morgan pulled Angelo from Manny’s room and picked him up, then carried him down the hall to their room. Once inside, he shut the door with his foot and crossed to the bed, laying Angelo down on it and climbing over him. Once they were settled, Morgan looked deeply into Angelo’s eyes as he tenderly carded his fingers through Angelo’s hair at the temple. “What is it, baby? Why are you being so hard on Frankie about being Manny’s mate?” Morgan asked gently. When Angelo remained quiet, but his bottom lip came out in a pout and his eyes became defiant, Morgan tried again. “You know we cannot get involved in a mating, love. Not only is it against our laws, but morally you know it’s wrong. Look what happened with Jett and Zev. Do you want that for our son?” The fight left Angelo’s eyes and they filled with sadness as tears built in the corners. He knew he had played Angelo by hitting him where it would hurt the most…right in the heart, but Manny deserved his mate just like everyone else, and so did Frankie. “No, but…” Angelo stopped as his bottom lip quivered and a tear rolled down his temple into his hair. “What, baby?” Morgan asked and kissed Angelo gently. “We just got him, Morgan. Now, all of a sudden, a real father steps into the picture, and a mate, and now what? I’m gonna lose my baby. I know he’s not really ours, but I love him as if he were. To me, Manny is my son. We haven’t had enough time with him and now he’s gonna be gone,” Angelo cried and buried his face in Morgan’s chest. Morgan slid his arms under Angelo and held him tight. “Oh, Angel. We’re not going to lose him. Even if he didn’t find Frankie and his biological father hadn’t shown up, Manny is still a man now and there is nothing we can do to stop that. But I’m afraid that if you keep behaving like this, then we will lose him. He needs us now more than ever, Angel. He’s dealing with so much right now and he needs to know that we are still here for him. That we are still his fathers and we only want what is best for him and that we are on his side. He needs us to support him and his choices right now. If we stand by him and show him that we still love him and nothing has changed, then he will come to us.” “I know that what you’re saying is true, but I still feel like I’m losing him. I always wanted to have children Morgan, and Manny coming into our lives was a godsend. But now he’s all grown, like you said, and he doesn’t need us anymore,” Angelo cried harder. “What happened when you turned of age, Angel? Did your parents suddenly abandon you? Did you suddenly not need them anymore, or their guidance?” “N-no.” “Well, neither will Manny. Even though he is a grown man now, that doesn’t mean he won’t still come to us for advice, or that he doesn’t want us anymore. We haven’t lost him, and we never will. He is still our son and always will be.” “I know. And I’m sorry,” Angelo said and pulled back, dropping his head back into the pillow. “You have nothing to be sorry for. Well, that’s not true. You’re just worried about our son and love him, but you do need to apologize to Frankie.” Angelo deflated and relaxed into the pillow as his eyes closed. “s**t. Frankie as a son-in￾law. What has this world come to?” Angelo pouted. Morgan began to laugh then kissed Angelo’s lips. “Think of it this way, life won’t be boring,” Morgan said cheerfully and smiled. Angelo returned the smile and began to laugh, then wrapped his arms around Morgan’s neck, pulling him down into a hug. * * * * “What have you brought me?” the man’s harsh voice asked. “I don’t know anything new, sir. They have been so busy trying to rebuild the new council building and find new council members, and helping the pixie and others settle into that new town, Maddox,” Toby answered nervously as he twisted his hands together and stared down at the floor. The scary green man with the long platinum blond hair spun around to face him, and those aquamarine eyes filled with anger, making Toby feel like Fallon was looking straight through him. “You need to do better than that if you wish for you and your brothers to remain safe. If nothing is happening in Crystal, then get your sorry a*s to Maddox and find a way to get in good with the king or one of his advisors. I don’t care how you do it, just get it done. You have one week to report something new. Something that I can use, or say goodbye to one of those pathetic creatures you call brother,” Fallon threatened. * * * * “So, what do we do now?” Avery asked as he, Frankie, Ollie, and Pas, stood outside on the deck behind Morgan and Angelo’s house. “I think Illan is right and Manny needs to stay here and out of sight until we locate Rune. Not only because we have no idea what his intentions are, but we also don’t know what other changes he will go through. And we have no idea if the other fairies will want to grab him,” Frankie replied. “I think we should go find Rune, throw a net over him, and drag his a*s back here. There are spells he can use and teach Manny that will help him to look human again. And I don’t think he’s trying to hurt Manny because he had plenty of opportunity to do that when he had him in the pixie realm. I think he’s trying to help him,” Ollie stated. “I hate to admit it, but I think Ollie is right. When Rune popped into Manny’s room, all he said was that Manny was in danger. Then I started lobbing energy balls at him and he took off. But I really think he was there to help,” Avery said. “I agree with all of you. So where do we start looking?” Frankie asked. Something dropped from above and landed with a thump onto the deck beside them. They all turned to see Manny straightening. “Well, whatever you’re doing, you’re not doing it without me,” Manny declared. Frankie stepped closer to Manny and lifted his hand, cupping Manny’s cheek. “It may be too dangerous for you to be walking around, mate. We don’t know what the other fairies may do.” Manny placed his hand over Frankie’s and gave him a soft smile. “Thank you for trying to protect me, mate, but I think Rune will keep running if he sees all of you. Especially after Avery tried to set his a*s on fire. But if I am with you, then maybe he won’t run. I heard you all talking and I agree with you. I think Rune wants to help me. So, I’m coming,” Manny said with conviction, then leaned in and gave Frankie a quick kiss on the lips. Frankie was so shocked from Manny’s kiss, that he just stared wide-eyed at him for a moment. Then Frankie moved his hand to the back of Manny’s neck and pulled him closer, bringing their lips together. Frankie slid his tongue against the seam of Manny’s lips, and Manny opened for him. Frankie thrust his tongue in and moaned from the taste of his mate. Frankie was overwhelmed with the flavor of honey and sunshine and he wanted more. He turned his head and deepened the kiss as he moved closer, pressing their bodies together. Manny grabbed the front of his shirt and returned the kiss. Both moaning, the kiss turned more passionate and full of need. “Um, guys. Not that I want to break up this great start to a hot p**n, but, if we don’t get going soon, all the old guys in there are going to come out here and stop us from leaving,” Ollie stated. “Hey, my mates are not old. Their learned and wise,” Avery protested. “And youthfully challenged,” Ollie mumbled. “Ollie!” Pas warned. "What? I'm just saying his mates are more "experienced" in life," Ollie said snickering. "Experienced enough to kick your a*s if they hear you talking like that," Pas replied. Ollie rolled his eyes, saying, “Look, I know in our world age means s**t, but if we don’t break this up, they’ll be swallowing each other’s tonsils and stripping n***d any minute now. Obviously, the green skin has done nothing to dissuade Frankie’s libido.” Frankie and Manny slowly pulled back, breaking the kiss, and stared into one another’s eyes. “The little s**t is right, even if he is being an asshole about it,” Frankie started. “Hey,” Ollie cried. “As much as I want you to stay here where it’s safe, I think you’re right when it comes to Rune. So, let’s go before they come out and stop us,” Frankie declared and grabbed Manny’s hand, entwining their fingers. They all stepped off the deck and Manny touched Avery’s shoulder, stopping him. “Avery, you should stay here so your mates don’t get worried.” “To hell with that. You’re my best friend and I’m coming with you. And have you forgotten, I’m part pixie and am gaining some wicked magical skills? I can be very handy in a fight if needed,” Avery announced proudly with a smile. “But I don’t want your mates hating me,” Manny said. “They will never hate you, Manny. They know how important you are to me. They may get a little mad at me because I didn’t tell them I was going, but I’ll make it up to them,” Avery said with an evil smile and wiggled his eyebrows. “Yeah, and we know how. Bow-chicka-wow-wow,” Ollie said in a sing-song voice. Pascal shoved Ollie’s shoulder and sent him stumbling. “Let’s go, wise ass.” They each laughed from Ollie's pout and followed the arguing brothers.
