Iva, a talented young woman trying to make ends meet, lands a job as a personal assistant to

Sam, who is a wealthy and mysterious businessman with a dark past. What seemed good news

became a nightmare for her as she got roped in and couldn't find her way out. As she

becomes embroiled in Sam's life, she discovers a scent of deceit; he has a hidden agenda for

her, using her as bait to expose a killer. Nothing prepared her for the danger of being associated

with Sam's exposure to ruthless elites and making her a target in their games.

As Iva tries to make sense of Sam's complicated world, she must face her past and the

secrets Sam is keeping from her while deciding whether to fan the flames of passion

between them or quench them. The danger began to escalate, and the truth started to unravel.

Iva realizes that she is trapped in a web of deceit and that the only way to escape is to confront

the secrets and lies that surround her head-on.

While Iva struggles to untangle the web, she begins to think that maybe the greatest danger is

not the killer after all.

CHAPTER ONE
Iva Richmond struggled to keep her mind at peace as she trudged through the rain-soaked streets. Her feet are already aching from a long day at work, and that’s the least of her problems right now. As an artist who was struggling to fan her passion for painting in a city that seems to devour dreams and make ends meet, being at peace is such a pleasure. Over the past few months, she has taken multiple jobs to make ends meet and get minimal comfort. Her phone beeped; it was a text from Katie. “Dinner at 8 with the girls." Are you in?” Without thinking twice, she texted back. “No, I have an engagement tonight.” Iva felt bad for having to lie to her friend. Katie has been nothing but a great friend to her. She was not just in the mood to have a girls' night, not with everything going on in her life at the moment. “It wasn't all a lie, anyway,” she said to herself, trying to make herself feel better. As she turned the corner to Cedar Lane Street, the bright lights of the luxurious restaurant La' Grand caught her attention. She had heard of the restaurant, known for its fine dining and prestigious clients. Iva's stomach growled at the thought of the rich dishes served within its walls. In a flash, the idea came: “go in, make inquiries for any vacant role you could fit into”. She mustered the courage, pushed open the heavy glass door, and stepped inside. The centerpiece lightning enveloped her, and the aroma of delicacies filled the air, making her mouth water. Iva's eyes scanned the room, taking in the décor and the polished clients. For a brief moment, she was lost, taking in all she saw and wondering what it takes to belong in this class of society. She approached the hostess stand, and a sudden movement caught her off guard. A tall, perfectly messy figure appeared from nowhere, and Iva's feet seemed to freeze in place. He was a tall, dark man with broad shoulders who seemed to command attention without seeking it. His eyes were blue, boring right through her soul. "Watch where you are going," he snarled, a chill down her spine. Iva's eyes grew wide with alarm as she felt herself falling. She was convinced that she was going to fall flat in front of the entire restaurant. She felt a strong hand hold her elbow, steadying her. Iva's eyes met the piercing blue-eyed man who had collided with her earlier. His perfectly messy frame made her heart skip a beat. "Careful," he said, his voice sounding genuinely concerned. He took a good look at her for the first time. She was a beauty; fair, he had never seen one with eyes so beautiful. Though cheaply dressed, she was modest, and something about her seemed different from others. Iva blushed as she sensed the electricity of their nearness. She tried to step back, but his grip on her elbow tightened. "Let go of me," she said firmly and defensively. The man raised an eyebrow, amused. "Well, not until I'm sure you are steady." Iva was angry at his belittling tone. “He must see himself as my helper now”, she thought angrily, but she couldn't deny the spark of attraction that ignited between them, or was it in her mind? "My name is Sam Everest," he said, his eyes on hers. "And you are...?" "Iva Richmond," she whispered, barely finding her voice. Iva felt his gaze linger on her for a moment, warm like a caress, before he released her elbow. "Well, Iva, I don’t get to rescue a beautiful lady every day. Would you like to join me for a drink and make it a more interesting evening?" Iva considered the offer for a few minutes… “What could go wrong?” she thought. The offer from this proud stranger sounded tempting. She knew she should mind what brought her to La’Grand, but something about this stranger kept drawing her in. "I…I actually came to inquire about a job," she admitted, feeling a bit embarrassed. “I think I should just do that and leave.” Sam's eyes narrowed, and he seemed interested. "A job? Here?" Iva nodded. "I'm an artist. I need something to make ends meet." “Hmmmm,” he thought for some time. " That's something we can discuss over a drink." I love to hear more about your art." Iva followed Sam to the bar, but she couldn't shake off the strange feeling she was having. She knew for sure this man was trouble. A lady now would have been a better option. But she couldn't deny the spark of attraction between them. They made orders, and their drinks came almost immediately. They sipped their drinks and talked, and Iva found herself drawn to Sam's magnetic presence. He was confident, knew what he wanted, and was unapologetically masculine. But beneath his polished appearance, Iva could sense a hint of vulnerability. The evening wore on, and Iva's initial wariness gave way to a sense of ease. She felt like she had known Sam for years, not just minutes. "Thank you for the evening, Iva. "I can help you with a job. "Call me tomorrow." He rudely intruded on her thoughts. Handing a card to her Iva took the card, her heart racing with anticipation. What had just happened? And what lay ahead? Before she could reply, he stood and took his leave. “Such rudeness,” she muttered under her breath. She stepped out into the cool night air, thinking about all that had happened. She had mixed feelings as she went over the events of the night. She sensed that her life was on the edge of something big. Was her life going to change forever? What difference will this night make in her life? Little did she know, her life was about to take a turbulent turn. Her life was about to change, and she didn't even know that!
