Chapter 14

It all fitted so perfectly. If Damon was a werewolf, maybe that was his 'pack' out there. And if that was the case, I didn't have to worry about him at all. Then again, I still didn't want to believe that, and that would mean he was in danger. I leaned back and sighed. Damon didn't let me tell him anything anyway. He wouldn't take any ifs or buts about this. On the contrary. And if he really was a werewolf, then he certainly wouldn't tell me. Not now, maybe in a few months... Maybe once I said 'I love you'. Maybe then he would tell me that I was his 'mate'. God, it was all abstract and crazy. I just couldn't believe it. I mean, a normal thinking person wouldn't even consider such a thing. A normal thinker would immediately dismiss it as humbug. But these strange butterflies in my stomach, which could actually only be explained with love, were already there when we first met, which actually couldn't be normal at all. In general, it was entirely my feelings for Damon that made me even consider this whole 'lycanthrope' thing. As I stood here at the window and pondered, the moon had slowly appeared in the sky, but was immediately obscured by clouds. The moon... Wasn't it said that wolves barked at it? Did Damon maybe or not, after all he was partly human too... "Elise, it's important that you get a good night's sleep. It's already eleven o'clock. Please lie down." "Of course Wilhelmine. The food earlier was excellent, by the way." I forced a smile at her and lay down. Couldn't Damon and I please just be easier? I mean, in stories like Ruby Red and stuff, it was probably a lot more complicated with that stupid count and all, but still. That was just a book. Nothing real. On the other hand, if there seemed to be werewolves and such, why shouldn't there be time travel as well? I sighed and laid my head on the soft pillow. The brooding didn't get me any further, so I should just sleep on it one night and think about it completely differently tomorrow. In the end I didn't come to any conclusion. ♧ "Damon?" I looked at him hesitantly. He jerked his head down at me. It was the first time I saw him that he didn't look dazzling. Of course he was still hot and beautiful, but there were deep bags under his eyes and he looked incredibly tired. His hair wasn't styled, it was tousled on top of his head. His clothes weren't quite as stylish as usual, not as cool and casual, but rather a bit... sporty. And yet I found him breathtakingly beautiful. "Yes?" he grumbled. I suddenly narrowed my eyes. "If you're in a bad mood, I'd better go." I turned and walked down the first step toward the driveway. "No, wait!" Damon yelled, stepping out his front door. I hadn't seen him or Selina at school, so I wanted to drop by. He grabbed my shoulder and spun me around. "Listen Elise, it's really unfavorable right now... My parents are at home and... well" He didn't get any further, I had already pushed past him into the villa. "I've never seen your parents, can't I meet them?" "I don't think that's a good idea..." Damon grumbled, gently pushing me out. For this he was glared at indignantly by me. "Are you crazy? First you don't show up at school and I'm really worried about you, then I get here and I'm greeted in such a bad mood that I want to leave, you keep me on 'Wait Elise! '" I mimicked him. I knew I was overreacting, but the nagging pain in my heart drove me relentlessly. "And then I turn around and you want to get rid of me again... Just talk plainly to me..." "It... It's not you." I cut him off, "Don't guys always say that?" I laughed mockingly. "I just hope no guy ever had to say that to you because you didn't date anyone!" He stared jealously into my eyes. I immediately got goosebumps. "Don't play like that. You're acting like a complete i***t right now!" "I just wanted to say that it doesn't fit right now, ok?" I looked into his eyes, hurt. That was probably our first real argument. "Then you've made your decision. I get it." Angry, I turned on my heel again, but this time he didn't stop me. An unbelievable pain spread in my heart and it screamed at me to go back to it. But my mind fought back. 'Let him fidget' it said to me and that's exactly what I was going to do. If he really cared about me, then he'd have to make up for his stupid ways. That's not how an Elise Light could be treated. Under no circumstances. On the contrary, next time I would brush him off the same way. He should see how it is. How s**t you feel then! In a rage, I kicked away everything in my way as I walked home. Maybe I should calm down before I face Wilhelmine. Otherwise she would worry terribly again. And I didn't want that at all. So I made my way to the coffee from the other day and ordered the same. Just not with the same waiter. However, he looked at me a little suspiciously. I smiled contritely at him. "I'm terribly sorry about the other day. Damon is an i***t who can't control his stupid jealousy. You are welcome to tell your colleague that I would pay compensation, or whatever he wants." The waiter just nodded sharply, then took off. And that's why he showed up.
