Chapter 9

"Um, Elise? I wanted to apologize. You'll soon find out why I was like that to you." Damon and I pulled apart. And stood in front of the bed. Whoever just disturbed us, I would kill him or her. Damon and I hadn't done anything too 'special', but somehow we did. That hug had been different. Nobody had hugged me like that before. So loving and tender. Well, I actually didn't let anyone hug me except Wilhelmine, but still. Damon took my hand and stood in front of me protectively. "The way you treated her, Laeta, that is unforgivable. I don't understand how you could do that!" Damon growled. "Hey, I can talk myself, too," I protested. "And Damon? I know we had a deal, but this secrecy sucks." He sighed. "I'm sorry, Princess! But I can't tell you. I would take the risk of losing you because you wouldn't understand it yet. You'd have to know me longer for that." I narrowed my eyes. "That wasn't exactly what I wanted to hear," I snapped, wanting to turn to walk away, but Damon wouldn't let go of my hand. He turned to me, completely blocking out Laeta. "Please! Do not go. I... My heart aches just thinking about not being able to see you for a few hours. Please do not do that to me" "I remain." His eyes shone. "Still an hour. During this time we can clarify everything that happened, but first I have to call home. Wilhelmine will probably be very worried." Damon nodded enthusiastically and immediately held out his cell phone to me. I smiled and punched in the number. After a short chat with Wilhelmine, I turned to Damon. "I didn't have a date today," he put his hand on my shoulder. When I brought the subject up, he looked like he was about to freak out again. "I don't really know anyone here except you. I just wanted to get rid of your sister and the fact that you just decided that I should meet you made me angry. So I lied and I'm sorry. I never expected you to freak out like that. The guy you saw was just a waiter taking my order. There was nothing more. I'm so sorry, you have to believe me. If I could, I would undo it anytime. Please do not be mad at me" Damon's breathing slowed. Slower. "You don't have to apologize, princess. It's all my fault! I promise to try to keep my jealousy under control." I smiled at him. He was just perfect. Perfect for me. I looked around and saw that Laeta had left the room. "D-damon?" I breathed uncertainly. He beamed into my eyes. "Princess?" "C...can you...can I hug you?" He pulled me into his arms again with a low growl and laid me gently on the bed as he lay down next to me. "Don't ever ask me something like that again, understand? You don't have to ask, you can always touch me, always kiss me and always hug me because I would do anything for you. You should only be happy!" The blood rushed to my head. "You shouldn't say something like that" I moaned and he asked: "Why?" You could see he was confused. "Because then I never know what to answer. You're so... like that... I just can't describe it, but it takes my breath away when you get close to it, and when you come up with jokes like that..." He grinned. "I like it when you're quick-witted, but a speechless Elise is great too." I elbowed him lightly in his side. "Just shut up," I mumbled and snuggled up to him. He grunted slightly and wrapped his arms more tightly around me. "I can't believe that such a wonderful being should belong to me," he murmured more to himself than to me. His closeness gave me warmth and I slowly but surely felt my eyelids grow heavy. Before I fell asleep, Damon shook me. "I don't think you'd be happy if your foster mom saw me, so you should go home before you fall asleep," he whispered in my ear and I jumped out of bed. "I want to stay here. With you" I gave out sleepily. Oh God! Did I really just say that? He smiled at me. "That would be the best thing that could happen, but I doubt you'd be excited about that decision tomorrow. No, Wilhelmine is still worried about you. If you like, I can come to you through the window tonight and we can cuddle a bit more, but I want to keep our agreement." I looked at him grumbling. In my 'half asleep' I didn't think that was great. I turned away, offended. "You'll come to me and we'll cuddle," I decided. God, I'd be so ashamed of those words tomorrow, but right now I didn't care. I just wanted him to be near me. He laughed. "Come on I'll take you home Princess" ♧ Damon hadn't said anything on the drive, but I'd been staring at him in awe the whole time. What was wrong with me? Sure I was tired and when I was tired I was like a drunk, but still! Now I lay in my bed and waited for Damon. Where was he? I missed him even though he had only left me for four minutes! I wanted him to come. I wanted to touch him, feel his arms around mine and fall asleep in them. I sighed. Then there was a soft knock on my window. Demon! I quickly opened it and let him in. "Why did it take you so long?" I snapped and he laughed. "I thought you might want to change your clothes. Now come and lie down. Tomorrow is school, you have to be wide awake." I looked at him grumbling. He grinned and lay down on the bed with me. "Just go to sleep, Princess! I take care of you. Nothing will happen to you!" I looked up at him tiredly and snuggled up to his muscular body. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close as he planted feathery kisses on my hair. "Damn, how am I supposed to fall asleep like that?" I asked him softly in German. He laughed. "I don't know what you just said, but it sounded like you were swearing. You do quite a lot, don't you?" I punched him in the side. "I was asking how am I going to fall asleep when you're doing this?" I nodded, head up. He laughed. "Will you sleep better if I let you?" I sighed. "No." "Fine, I'll go on then, believe me, you're falling asleep already." And he murmured to himself: "She's falling asleep. In MY arms... A dream" but it could also be that I had imagined it, because I noticed how slowly my eyes closed. ♧ "Hey! little one! Awaken! Wilhelmine left you a note. She's at some job interview. i made you breakfast And packed your school things" This is definitely how I wanted to be woken up every morning. There was nothing better. Then I remembered how embarrassing I had been yesterday. I hid my face under the covers in embarrassment. "Hey," Damon protested. "Don't hide your beautiful face from me." "I-it's just... I was soooo embarrassed yesterday" Damon laughed. "No, you weren't. On the contrary. I actually thought you were pretty cute. But now we should hurry, otherwise we'll be too late. I was already at home and got ready. Now the only thing missing is you"
