Chapter 12

"Tom, go away and leave me alone, is that so hard to understand?" I slapped his hand off my arm in irritation. He grumbled. "Why are you letting him get close to you and not me?" “Feelings cannot be controlled. And if you don't leave me alone right now, I'm going to miss one that you won't forget for days because your cheek still hurts, okay?" Tom looked at me hurt. "I'll leave you in peace. 'Cause he's gonna hurt you and then, then you're gonna come to me. Then you will understand that I am the only right one for you. You will come to me, cry to me and beg me to forgive you. Because Damon has a secret. And you won't like it!" With that, Tom turned and sped away. I, on the other hand, was frozen. How did Tom know Damon had a secret? Did he know Damon? Or had he just guessed blindly to confuse me? In any case, he had made it, because I was still clinging to the hope that my research was just humbug. I just stood there, trembling, not stirring. Until someone put their hands over my eyes. "Who am I?" an annoying voice squeaked enthusiastically. I sighed. "Let me guess! Santa! Selina, I'm not stupid." My eyes narrowed to annoyed slits as I turned. "and? How's it going with Damon?" She acted as if I hadn't sniffed at me and was perfectly social, accommodating and friendly. "Just kiss my ass," I mumbled in German, annoyed. "Whatever you said didn't sound friendly," laughed Damon's sister. Strange that I had never seen her at home. And neither did his parents. I should ask him about it. On the other hand, maybe it was similar to me. Maybe they were dead, or maybe they were rarely home. Still, I would ask him about it. Because he was important to me, and that's why I was interested in what happened to him. A bit strange feeling, before I had never been interested in anyone but myself, Wilhelmine and maybe Shannon. Well, maybe I had often thought about why my father left us. Why wasn't he there for me? What was so bad about me that he didn't want to stay with me to take care of me. "I didn't mean it in a friendly way either," I grumbled and she playfully punched me in a boxer. So either she thought I was being ironic and didn't understand the seriousness behind it, or she didn't give a damn what I thought of her. What I'd rather understand, my self-doubt didn't allow me to believe that anyone could care about my opinion. I heard her sigh next to me. "Listen Elise. I know it's not easy for you. I mean you live with a foster mom and your mom is dead and she was crazy and all but you could be a little nicer." I looked at her frozen. When I raised my hand, it trembled. My lips were slightly parted and my eyes widened in shock. "Where from. you know You. That?" I hissed menacingly, tearing myself away from Selina, who had a hand on my shoulder. "Well from Damon!" she answered lightheartedly, but I could tell from her look that she had noticed my anger. "And how does Damon know?" My eyes were no longer wide, but narrowed to narrow slits. "T...I don't know," Selina wailed, looking at me pitifully begging. I grabbed her shoulder, my long nails digging into her arm and she whimpered slightly. "I'm just asking you one more time! Where from. White. Demon. That?" Anxious, she tore herself free. "I don't know," her bottom lip trembled, then she ran away. Red liquid was seen on her shoulder. Still stunned, I made my way home. I could not believe it. Was Damon spying on me? He had promised to respect my secrets because he definitely didn't know my mother was dead or insane. I was sure I didn't tell him that. A few tears fell down my face, trying to convince myself that I didn't care, that I didn't care about my crazy mother, but my heart was telling me to just take this moment of weakness for once. I hardly ever did it, I didn't want Wilhelmine to worry about me, or for others to have the feeling that I wasn't strong enough after 'so infinitely bad things' had happened to me. My face was wet when I arrived, but Wilhelmine didn't ask me about it. She just hugged me. That quiet affection gave me more comfort than words could have. "I'm making lasagna for dinner, are you ok with that?" I nodded and smiled tightly. "You know you don't always have to be strong" With these words she disappeared into the kitchen. I, on the other hand, ran upstairs to my room. When I opened the door, however, my blood froze in my veins. Demon. He was sitting on the bed. And he smiled at me. What did Spast think of anyway? Didn't he have a guilty conscience at all that he had betrayed me? And how did he get in here in the first place? "Elise?" he asked suddenly. I jumped and quietly closed the door behind me. "Princess, are you alright?" "How did you get in here?" I hissed. "Well through the window. you left it open" "And then you think, 'I'll just walk into her apartment. It's not like I betrayed her or anything'." Damon's brow furrowed in confusion. "B-but I've always done that." His voice sounded slightly desperate and it made me sad to see him like that. But right now the anger and hurt overshadowed all other feelings. "When were you going to tell me?" I looked at him with a trembling voice. "Say what?" Oh. He played dumb. Alright. "That you betrayed me and spied on me against my wishes, maybe? And that, to make matters worse, you also told your sister about my 'Oh, such a difficult lot'? I trusted you damn it. You were the first person I wanted to be around constantly in such a short time. But you took advantage of it. You broke your promise" Silence.
