Chapter 11

1852 Words
"And Tom says he loves me," I concluded through gritted teeth. Damon looked like he was about to destroy something. His jealousy was kinda cute, but he scared me a little. After school I got into his car. Tom pulled up and wanted to follow us, but Damon had easily left him behind in the car. I had let Wilhelmine know and I think she had a half fainting fit with joy that I had finally made contact. I doubted if she would really consider Damon the ideal 'boyfriend'. While he was charming, kind, and incredibly sweet to me, he also got into fights. Definitely a minus point! Although he also did it out of jealousy... It definitely wasn't okay, but it was still kind of cute. God, what was wrong with me to find that 'cute'? Slapping someone was anything but 'cute'! Ever since I met Damon, I've been kind of different. Somehow more open-minded and above all probably totally in love. "Elisa! I have to calm down. I'm so incredibly angry right now" he growled and I nodded in understanding. Somehow I understood him. If a girl suddenly showed up to confess her love to him, I wouldn't be thrilled at all! I would probably play the ice cold one, who didn't care, but I would still be injured. "Can you take my hand?" His mouth was very close to my ear. "Naturally. If it helps you..." "Your closeness, your charming nature is the most beautiful gift you can give me" Why did I always have to blush in his presence? That couldn't be healthy! I felt him grab my hand. Firmly clasped, he placed our intertwined hands on my lap. The veins that had protruded in his neck slowly disappeared - or rather were no longer visible - and his breathing slowly calmed down again. The clear blue of his eyes also returned. I smiled at him. This moment seemed like only a few seconds, but when I glanced at the clock I realized we had been like this for five minutes. "Princess?" "Yes?" "Go out with me" There was so much pleading in his voice that I wondered again how he felt about me at all. His free hand wandered to my cheek and caressed it tenderly and with so much feeling that I almost got dizzy. "What kind of stupid question is that? Of course I'm going out with you" My initial resistance was completely gone. Sure, I still had my doubts, but I also trusted Damon. There was no way he would intentionally hurt me, and I didn't want to have to be without his closeness. She was too valuable for that. No, I finally wanted to start enjoying my life. "You make me so incredibly happy" Damon beamed from cheek to cheek and pulled me tight in his arms. "Damon, I have to go home. I wanted to do something else. Would you drive me?" I stared at him contritely, but he smiled and nodded. "This is not a problem. May I just have your cell phone for a moment? I want to give you my number. If you want, you can text me tonight and I'll come and cuddle!" I grinned and held out my phone to him. "Where do I have to press?" he moaned immediately. "That's all in German!" I laughed and showed him. And he seriously saved himself as 'your hot guy'. I punched his side and he acted like it really hurt him. "But you don't do that, princess!" he rebuked me with a raised finger. I laughed. There was no one who had made me do this more times in such a short time. And I was so grateful to him for that. That he finally brought light into my lonely world. Even if I had to mention that I was not entirely innocent of the loneliness. "Are you driving me home?" I asked. Damon grinned. "But I have one condition." I raised an eyebrow mockingly: "And that would be?" "I can come to you tonight at exactly nine o'clock and we can cuddle!" My heart was racing. If that wasn't a compromise one could accept. "Nothing better than that." Damon's eyes lit up. "Come on, let's go to the car." He pulled me down the stairs behind him. "Hey bro, is that your little one? The one you told us about?" A boy - I guessed he was just sixteen - with brown hair and green eyes came up to us bawling. Damon narrowed his eyes at him. His hand almost crushed mine and you could see how tense he was. "I've never seen her, don't you want to introduce her to the dogs soon?" He laughed like it was a hell of a joke. I just shook my head. Understand the Americans! "Shut up." Damon's jaw clenched. "She. Is. A. Human!" He hissed every word and I barely heard it, it was so quiet. The boy, who was probably standing two meters away from him, didn't seem to have any problems understanding. Unusual... Well, maybe it was me. What was even stranger, though, was that he called me a human. I knew I was, too, but he said it like he expected something else. As if he weren't human himself. But that was impossible. I didn't believe in such unearthly nonsense. Although... maybe he was an alien after all? I mean, what were the odds that in this vast space it would only allow life to be found on our planet? Doesn't matter. I completely digressed from the topic. "Oh. That...I didn't know that, Alpha...uh, Damon" Yet again! Someone had called Damon 'Alpha'. I definitely had to google that! Damon looked like he was about to freak out again. "Just ignore the i***t," he breathed in my ear, strangely tense, and I couldn't get the feeling that it might have something to do with his secret. I didn't know of any other subject to which he reacted so sensitively. "Hey, I heard that" the boy protested and then came towards me. "I'm Oliver. If you ever need some distance from the bourgeois, then come to me." He waggled his eyebrows, laughing, until Damon gave him a cuff in the neck. Oliver kept laughing anyway and left, still rubbing the back of his neck. I just shook my head, the corners of my mouth turned up. Damon possessively wrapped his arm around my waist. "That's unfair!" "What?" "He just made you laugh so much. It took me longer!" "You scared me at first too. It's not every day someone jumps out of the bushes and hugs me." Damon pouted. That was kinda cute! ♧ I typed 'mate' into the Google search ad, then hit enter. My fingers were shaking and I eagerly awaited the result. Why was the internet so bad here? The seconds passed. Then a window opened. "Mate tea. Also known as herbal tea" So either Damon had a tea fetish and thought I was one, or it meant something else. Pondering, I added a 'pack'. Numerous results came. Most came from stories. books. Books about... werewolves. I opened one to check. At the beginning of the book - which you could read on the internet - there was a 'definition of terms'. ♧ Lycanthrope : Another word for werewolf. Usually large human who can transform into wolf form. Pack : Similar to wolves, there is a pack among lycanthropes. This has a leader also known as 'Alpha'. His word is law. The pack lives in a settlement in the center of which is the 'pack house'. This is where the alpha lives with his family and the pack stays there during the day. Mate : Every lycanthrope has a mate. This derives from 'soulmate' meaning soul mate. You immediately feel attracted to the person and can no longer live without them. When one dies, it is often the case that the other dies too. If not, he goes insane. ♧ Panting, I closed my laptop without reading any further. I knew it couldn't be right. There were no werewolves, but it all fitted together so perfectly. It would explain why Damon liked me, called me his 'mate' and his friends all seemed kind of scared of him. Also, all the babble about the 'pack' would make some sense. Despite this, my brain refused to take in this information and accept it as true. It screamed at me that it couldn't be true. My head was pounding and I clutched my ears in desperation. It couldn't be. There had to be another, logical explanation. I stumbled through my room in desperation and gulped down a glass of water that I always put on my bed before I went to sleep. It hit the ground with a bang and shattered into a thousand pieces. And in each of the fragments I was reflected again. My eyes were wide open, you could see the horror in them. "You need to calm down, Elise. That was just a story from the internet, nothing of importance. Surely it's all just coincidence!" I whispered these two sentences to myself like a mantra. Still, I couldn't believe myself. Everything was just too perfect for that. The mansion he supposedly lived in with 'friends and family', the word pack and Oliver's weird dog joke. "Stop," I hissed to myself. "You're watching. Get Damon to tell you the truth. But don't show him you have a hunch. Maybe it's not true. Then he stamps you as crazy! You mustn't allow that. You would lose it when you just won it!" I encouraged myself. I thoughtlessly wanted to lie down on my bed to switch off first, but I stepped on a shard. I hissed in anger and clenched my fist so tight my knuckles turned white. Red blood spread across the wooden floor. It was definitely a bad thing to get out of that. I hobbled over and cleaned everything. Then I bandaged my foot carefully. ♧ Five to nine. Damon would be right there. How was I supposed to look him in the eye now, with that strange assumption? "Chill yourself. Nothing has been proven yet. Just wait!" I mumbled to myself in my native tongue. "I beg your pardon?" My head snapped around as I put my hand to my heart in shock. "Oh nothing," I mumbled, limping to the window to open it. Damon dove in gracefully. "Hey Princess?" he asked. I stared at him lost in thought. His black hair looked as if he had just gelled it up, through the white t-shirt you could clearly see his muscles. I shuddered slightly. Suddenly he took off his shirt and now I had a clear view. I looked away in embarrassment and blushed brightly. I didn't want to see his nicely defined torso, it would just make me feel bad. "Let's cuddle!" he whispered hoarsely in my ear. His voice was husky and deep. Damn that was hot! Pull yourself together! I nodded to myself and then smiled up at Damon.
