It was probably complete nonsense too, but I trusted my mind more because it couldn't be manipulated as quickly as the heart.
"Thanks" I breathed and I saw a little hurt in his eyes. Obviously he had expected me to trust him enough and it made him sad.
I almost got a guilty conscience. He shouldn't be sad! And certainly not because of me!!!
"Do you live alone with your family in this mansion?" I asked. Damon's face tightened a bit.
"No. Relatives and... friends also live here. I raised my eyebrows. Since when did you live with friends? And why had he hesitated so much before saying that?
I sighed, but didn't dwell on it any longer. "How are you?" I had to smile. It was such a simple question, but nobody who'd asked me that had sounded quite as sincere as he had. Like he really cared. He wasn't asking lightly at all thereafter.
However, I had to think for a moment before I could answer honestly. "I'm confused! I don't really understand your attentiveness and it's strange living in Canada now. It's so different here than in Germany."
I hesitated. Then I asked my question. "What do you see in me? You've only known me for two days!" He smiled, but then answered evasively. "That's a secret I can't tell you just yet." I glared at him.
"You are cheating. You promised to answer every question honestly. Besides, I have to go home! It's very late!" His eyes twinkled sadly.
"It's only eight o'clock" "Just now" I bitched and got up. "I don't know where to go to my house..." I mumbled shamefacedly.
I felt uncomfortable having to rely on his help, but then again it felt good, which sounded kind of odd because it didn't quite add up.
"I'll drive you" his voice was cool and a pang went through my heart. What had I done wrong again? Or maybe he had changed his mind and now found me uninteresting.
My lower lip started to tremble, but I quickly pulled myself together. I definitely wouldn't cry right now. It wasn't that important after all! Okay, that was a lie because, oddly enough, I cared about him.
This whole situation was so incredibly strange. And weird has been my new favorite word since I've known it...
He ran ahead and I followed him. Somehow I was disappointed. Otherwise I had always carried him... Not even that I wanted to be carried, but that I had liked the closeness to him and it was a gesture of affection, which he now denied me.
I quietly followed him and he got into the car. I got in the passenger side and he didn't say a word to me while driving and even after I gave him my address and he pulled up there for me to get out his lips were still sealed.
I swallowed softly. "Bye," I mumbled, getting out and stepping inside. "Oh honey, where have you been?" Wilhelmine greeted me, concern in her voice.
"I am sorry. I was with a... buddy." Now Wilhelmine began to smile. "I'm glad you made friends so quickly, but please let me know next time."
I quickly nodded and hugged her. I had never done that before, but Wilhelmine was so tactful that she didn't comment.

The next morning, as I sat outside on the bench during break and wrote in my journal, I found myself waiting in vain for Damon to appear here.
It gave me the confirmation that he didn't like me after all, maybe he had found out yesterday when he met me that he thought I sucked - I didn't know it, but I didn't care out of defiance and pride alone.
I didn't want to show myself to mourn the loss of someone I'd only known for three days. In addition, an Elise Light could not be treated in this way.
"Hey, how was my brother yesterday?" My eyes darted to the side. Damon's sister! What was her name again? Selina?
What was she thinking? That I would now talk to her about Damon? Definitely not. "Everything is perfect now, if you'll excuse me." I stood up, clutching the diary tightly. Then I bumped into... someone again, it could only happen to me so often.
"Look out, my little princess !" breathed a voice close to my ear. Damon! And he said the 'princess' in German! Did he look it up extra?
I was almost touched, but then I remembered that I was angry with him. "Let me go," I muttered. "Won't you leave then, princess?" I looked at him hurt.
"I wasn't acting so stupid and cool yesterday," I hissed. He swallowed and blinked. "You can't believe how sorry I am! It was just... well, you just wanted to leave, that got me." hurt somehow?"
His sentence sounded more like a question than anything else. "Yes, of couse. Damn, you've only known me for three days! How do you know I'm as great as you think I am? Because I'm definitely not great! How come you take such a strange interest in me? That's almost creepy, damn it!" I swore.
While it hurt me to say those words to him, I felt they were necessary because I certainly wouldn't play along in his games, as I felt it was next to impossible that after three days he thought I was that great.
He suddenly pulled me very hard in his arms and I cried out loud because I was so scared. "You have no idea what you mean to me! I can't explain it to you yet, but the moment will come. Just... let's put it this way..." he stammered in a clear voice.
"I have a secret that I won't be able to tell you for a while. I'm so sorry."
