Everything in me resisted even thinking about what had happened last night.
Being so inconsistent with my own resolutions made me angry on the one hand, but on the other hand, the thought of Damon gave me butterflies in my stomach. It was maddening.
"Elise, are you alright?" Wilhelmine beamed at me with her usual laugh and held a pan of scrambled eggs in front of my nose. I declined.
"That's nice, Wilhelmine, but I'm a little sick. I'm not hungry." Worried, she pressed her hand to my forehead. "Luckily you're not hot. Should I call the school and see if you can stay at home?"
I shook my head again. "It's nice that you're so worried, but it's okay. I'll just grab a sandwich in case I get hungry and I'll be fine!" "Are you sure, little one?"
I nodded affirmatively, then I made myself a sandwich and walked to school. "Elise?" someone yelled very loudly. Selina.
Couldn't she just leave me alone? I thought that with my dismissive manner I had made it clear that I wasn't a outgoing person... "Yes?" I asked, rolling my eyes in annoyance.
She either didn't see it or didn't care because she just babbled on. "Well, I'm supposed to tell you that Damon is having a pack today... that he's sick today, but he'd like to meet you after school. And he wants your number" I grinned.
"Yes, definitely. It's best if I also tell him my f*******: name and we write a lot. And that we meet hot, he can put it up his ass right away. Tell him I'm seeing someone else."
"B-but... Is that really true?" I nodded, annoyed. But of course it wasn't true. Who would want to meet me?
Actually, I just wanted to get rid of Selina and prevent me from letting Damon get any closer to me. Guys like him would only hurt you anyway. I didn't have to pretend anything.
It was impossible to fall in love with a girl in a matter of days. Damon didn't think I was great at all! There was no way a guy like him - hot, handsome, stunning and mysterious - would fall in love with someone like me - retarded, shy, a bit unattractive - of all people.
He should rather stick to someone who was like him. "I don't think he'll be happy to hear that..." the black-haired woman murmured.
"On the contrary. He's going to FREAK..." I ignored her, thinking about what she had said. 'Pack matters' Since I hadn't fallen on my head like girls in other stories, I was able to put one and one together. 'Pack matters'.
So either he was weird enough to call himself and his friends a pack, or he had a wolf pack at home. In any case, the matter was not interesting enough to think about it further. The gong sounded and I ignored Selina.
At the end of the school day I was terribly tired and even worse than this morning. If only Damon were here to protect me...
Stop Elise! You won't think this through! I sighed. Was it that dependent on him? I hadn't seen him for half a day. It couldn't be that bad!
On the way home I stopped by a café and bought myself a coffee. Then I sat down at a table. The coffee tasted s**t. It's like someone switched sugar and salt.
I called for the waiter. "This tastes awful, could I get another one?" The waitress, who seemed relatively young - maybe two years older than me - grinned nonchalantly at me.
"Anything else? I'll bring it to you right away" One might think that he would have wanted to say 'I'll get it to you right away' at first, but with my annoyed manner I quickly realized that that wasn't a very good idea. And at least he was right about that.
"Yes, a..." My gaze wandered over the card "a strawberry crumble cake" "Well, a coffee and a strawberry crumble cake..." he started to list, then a large hand laid on his shoulder and threw the guy away.
A shadow formed in front of me. He smelled tart. After forest. And male. "Are you f*****g serious? Are you dating someone else? And I was hoping you'd just lied to Selina..."
Damon glared at me in disappointment before turning and giving the Kellern a look that looked very, very deadly.
"And you! you joke What are you thinking of hitting up MY GIRLFRIEND? I warn you! If I see you around her one more time, you won't be able to have s*x for the rest of your life because then I castrated you."
His voice was menacingly quiet and onlookers had already lined up around us. In the faces you could see part longing - probably for Damon's divine form - fear and amusement.
Damon's face, on the other hand, showed incredible anger and demonic wrath. "B-but I didn't g-do anything," the waiter whispered, scared.
"Oh yes? But I'll be right away!!!" And with that, his fist hit the young guy's face. Blood flowed and there was a loud cracking sound.
The people all breathed in fearfully, but no one intervened. Damon raised his fist again. I looked around in panic. Nobody did anything about it.
No one pulled out their cell phone to call the police, not even a hand was raised. The crowd seemed frozen. They couldn't be serious...
"Damon" I shrieked in panic. He turned around, the usual smile in his eyes no longer showing when he looked at me. I was shaking in fear.
"So now you also want to defend him?" he growled angrily. "If you stop beating him to a pulp" I bitched. Was it actually okay?
I threw myself between the two as Damon raised his fist again. His whole body shook, but he didn't lower his fist. I was afraid. Panic fear.
What if he hit me now? I didn't worry about anything anymore. I didn't care that we had an audience. I didn't care that we had only known each other for a few days. I only focused on his beautiful, blue, shining eyes, in which I thought I saw a tear glistening.
Still, I saw his anger. Without even thinking anything else, I pressed my lips to his.
It felt amazing. At first Damon was stiff, just doing nothing and I was already scared that he was going to push me away. Not only would that be embarrassing, it would hurt me.
Nothing happened for a few seconds. I just pressed myself closer to him. Then it happened. He wrapped his hand around my waist and buried the other in my hair. Everything inside me started to glow and my heart raced. Yet again.
