Seren walked over to an isolated table and sat down in the corner, memories of her life at school flooded her mind like a rushing river. It was clear that Delancey had been using Seren as a way to look better, to look like a saint. All the pieces fitted together just like that. Even now at work, Delancey is careful with her image, always treating everyone with snacks and coffee every day. She'd had gained the grace of everybody there... Seren wondered if she had done the same thing already at work... then it clicked.
She remembered a while back at a dinner date with Malrick, where Malrick had asked Delancey if she thought she was a good person... It all made sense, Malrick had already known Delancey's true nature. Although the guy is weird, he was already a step ahead.
She wouldn't even be surprised if Rowan was already under Delancey's influence. Perhaps, Malrick was really looking out for her interest in best... Seren couldn't expose Delancey... not directly, not upfront. With how carefully Delancey sets her ground, Seren had no chance against her... This time, Seren had a plan.
She pulled up the work's group chat, hunting down Malrick's number. With a simple click she messaged Malrick her location.
Malrick didn't respond back but, it was clear he got the message. Seren headed outside alone where she sat on the curb. This dress was nothing but Delancey's plan. Delancey had always tried to make herself look good by having somebody next to her who couldn't pull off the style. Everything made sense. School wasn't an accident, it was all planned.
Suddenly Malrick's car pulled up the front, his window rolled down. He stared at Seren with an unreadable expression. Without a second thought Seren slid into the passenger seat. She never thought she'd ever do this but, right now Malrick doesn't seem that bad of a choice. Rowan wouldn't believe anything she said if she tried to explain it. "I'm going to that corporate party, I want to attend it with you... " Her tone confident but, lingered at the end with uncertainty.
"And, why's that?" he glanced down at her as he begun to drive off.
Suddenly her phone pinged a new message, it was Delancey. "Omg, I'm so sorry what happened. Where did you go? I told them the truth don't worry. I don't know why they believed that but, they are nicer now." Seren shut her phone off.
"Delancey had set me up... " Seren muttered.
Malrick glanced down at her childish dress. "That dress doesn't suit you." He spoke sternly.
"No, it doesn't. It's not my style.."
"Check the backseat." Malrick spoke softly, his finger tapping against the wheel again as he drove ahead.
Seren looked back to see a luxury black box in the back, "What is this?" she asked as she looked back up at him.
"I picked it up before I came here. I don't want you wearing that hideous pink dress." Malrick spoke like he was irritated at the color of her dress.
Seren reached back to grab the box, placing it on her lap. She carefully opened it to reveal an expensive, modest, fancy black dress. Her eyes lit up before she glanced over at Malrick who was now smirking to himself. "Why did you buy this?" she asked.
"The moment I saw your location. I already knew... " Malrick forcing himself not to laugh.
"H-how did you know?"
"Delancey was already talking about it at work... it's hard to miss it when she's all over the place." He explained as he turned the wheel onto a long-gated driveway.
"W-where are we?" Seren looked out the window to see a modern mansion unfolded before her eyes.
"You said, you wanted to attend the event with me..." Malrick looked down at Seren, "I don't want to attend with you... when you look like that." Malrick pulled up into the driveway finally. Seren frowned at the comment...
Malrick slid out of the car to attend to the passenger door, helping Seren out of the car. He led her into the mansion himself. A massive entry way, two large curved marbled stairs on each side. This was rich... Seren's eyes wandered around the interior. Malrick refrained from his devious smirk, clearly enjoying her reaction. "This feels inappropriate in a way... that I'm here, you're like my boss you know..." Seren muttered as her wandering eyes finally landed on him.
His lips pressed into a thin line, "I guess I'll just drop you back off at that school." He spoke sternly and displeased.
"N-no, please don't!" Her voice wavered.
A small smirk formed on the corner of his lips at her plead, "Good." He gestured for her to follow him upstairs. She hesitated before following along. She didn't feel she belonged here. This felt unprofessional... in a way which made her uncomfortable.
"Where are we going?" She asked, her tone more confident now.
Instead of responding he led her to a fairly large bathroom. She looked up at him with a puzzled look before walking inside and sitting down at a chair which was up against a wall. She placed her hands on her knees awkwardly as she watched him follow inside.
