Amelia
Omega my ass, I am the daughter of an Alpha. I will not show weakness in front of him, and I will bow down to no man or wolf. I am so glad I never told him the truth. All he cares about is power and rank. I see that now. But I still find this all so strange. This is not the Cruz I know. Something is very off. But right now, I just want to get away from here and lick my wounds.
“Savano? I thought your last name was Jenkins. And how are you still standing?” He whispers through his pain. “Hmm, you were too quick to judge, weren't you? Who is the weak one now? You aren't worthy of being an alpha. If you were, you would still be standing. My mother’s maiden name was Jenkins, not that it matters. You don't deserve to know who I really am. Have fun with your discount trophy, Luna. That is all she will ever be,” I say, and turn and walk away with my head held high.
“Get her!” he bellows in his alpha tone. I looked back and saw the few warriors that were present, running my way. They are his men, and not any friends of mine, so I need to make a fast escape. I immediately shifted into my black wolf, Callie, tearing my beautiful blue dress I had made for the ceremony. Callie runs as fast as she can till we reach the south-side border. “That is not an Omega wolf!” one of the warriors yells, and I smirk. Bunch of stupid assholes.
I know there is a river close by that I can use to mask my scent. I don't know what is going on with Cruz, but I am not sticking around to find out. I have clearly hurt his ego, and Alpha wolves are very proud creatures. Who knows what he will do to me? I am almost at the border, when Cruz’s wolf, Bruno, tackles me from the side. We roll a few feet closer to the border, but he pins me down and snarls at me.
Callie snarls back, and pushes him off her. She gets the upper hand and pins him down. He always underestimated me, and he had never seen Callie before. She snarls at him and opens her mouth to bite into his neck, but pulls back at the last minute. She slaps him with her claws, and then she jumps away quickly, and runs at full speed over the border. We run until we reach the river and don't look back.
I can hear they are chasing me, but I don't stop to see how many there are. I need to keep going. I can't let them catch up to me. After a few minutes of running, I hear Bruno howl in the distance, and I hear six answering howls, but I stay quiet. Callie runs as fast as she can, but I know she is getting tired. That rejection hit her harder than it did me. She needs to keep the pup safe too, but I can feel that our anger is fueling her to keep going.
I don't know how long we have been running, but it feels like hours. I am basically just leading them in circles after I ran through the icy river for a bit. I just need to stay ahead of them. I am starting to get exhausted now, and I will need to stop soon. I can also feel the cold starting to seep through Callie’s fur.
All of a sudden, I heard a wolf whine behind me, so I looked back. It's a black wolf I don't know. He shows me to follow him, but I don't know this wolf. It could be a trap. I also can't pick up his scent. “I trust him, Amee. I can't explain it, but I feel a connection to him. He is masking his scent, but I know we can trust him,” Callie says in my mind.
“I trust you, Callie, do what feels right,” I answered. “Thanks babe,” she answers and changes direction and follows the black wolf. He is huge and looks to be an Alpha wolf. But who the hell is he? I wish I could pick up his scent, to know who he is. But Callie is right, he feels familiar somehow.
We ran in a zigzag pattern and through the river. He then takes me around, and we run through the river again, after following a different pattern. What the hell? “Are you sure about this?” I asked Callie, in my mind. “Yes babe, he is quite clever. He is confusing them with our scent.” “I get it now,” I answered, and cut the connection so she could concentrate.
After one more run through the water, he leads me up a mountain trail, to a place I had never seen before. And I have been to these woods many times before. This is where I shifted for the first time. Whenever I want to let Callie out for a run, I come to these woods. But I have never seen this path.
I follow behind him as he leads me into a cave at the very top. I looked around, not leaving the entrance. When I looked back outside, I could see our entire pack lands. Wow, he can see everything from up here. I wonder if he saw what happened and that's why he came to help me.
I walked a little further inside, and it looks like he lives here. I must admit, it's very homey and looks like the inside of a house. He sits close to the sofa in the corner, and looks at me. He doesn't say or do anything, he just looks at me. This feels very weird, but the more I look at him, the more I feel a pull towards him. I feel safe and so calm when I should be freaking out.
Could I have seen this wolf before? “Do you know who he is?” I asked Callie, in my mind. “No, but I feel like I know him, or should know him. I am trying to connect to his wolf, but he isn't answering me. It's really weird, but I feel so safe around him.” Callie answers, clearly she is just as confused as I am. “Let me shift back so I can talk to him,” I say.
She hands me back control, so I can shift back into my human form. His eyes roam my naked body, and for some reason it makes me feel giddy. What the f**k is wrong with me? He grabs the blanket off the couch with his mouth, and brings it over to me. “Thank you,” I say, and throw the blanket over myself. I am starting to feel a little light-headed, and I am freezing. I think I over-exerted myself. That rejection took a lot out of me, even though I put up a brave front.
I am also pregnant, so I hope I didn't do any damage to my baby. That tumble I took with Bruno also didn't help. I need to get some answers and some rest. “Where are we? And why did you help me?” I ask in the softest tone I can manage. I didn't want to piss him off after he just helped me. He looks down, and I see him take a deep breath, before he looks up at me again.
I see him start to shift, and I watch on mesmerized. He turned around with his back to me, while he shifted. Before he turned around to face me again, I saw him put something on his face. When he turns to look at me, my eyes widen as I look at the man before me in all his naked glory.
He is only wearing a mask, but something catches my eye immediately. The pack crest is on his mask. Who is this man, and why is he wearing our pack crest on his mask? It's not just the pack crest, but it's been the Milano family crest since they settled here. I stepped closer to get a better look.
I need to make sure my eyes are not deceiving me. I start to sway as I move, but I am determined to get to him. When I am in front of him, I reach out and take hold of the mask. He doesn't stop me, but allows me to take it off. Just as I pull it away from his face, I see spots in front of my eyes. My vision starts to blur and I close my eyes.
I feel myself fall, but I don't hit the ground. Instead, I feel two strong arms around me and a tingly feeling, before everything goes black.
