Kai
As pissed as I am at my brother, I can't help but enjoy the feel of having my mate in my arms. “There is a subtle change in his scent too. Did you notice that?” I asked her. “I did, but I never mentioned anything to him. I never felt him being unfaithful to our bond, so I just figured it was the scent of whoever he is with.
I also don't see where he could have gotten the time to have a two-year-old son. Up until a month ago, we were inseparable and he hated Lilith. There is something I am missing, something big,” she says deep in thought. “We will figure this out and make him pay,” I say, and she looks at me and frowns.
“He is your twin and I plan on killing him. Can you live with that?” she asked. “I will not stand in your way. He may be my twin, but what he did to you is unforgivable. But before we do anything, I want to know what is really going on. I will do a bit of snooping first and see what I can dig up. But for now, let me get you something to eat. You must be starving,” I say, and right on cue, her stomach starts growling and we both laugh. That effectively changed the mood.
I put her down on the bed, and got up. “What are you in the mood for?” I asked, and she bites the side of her bottom lip. She does that whenever she is in deep thought and I have always found it cute. I probably sound like a stalker, but I see myself as more of her silent protector. Working in the shadows to ensure she is safe. I failed her today though. I need to make it up to her. As her mate, it’s my job to keep her safe.
“I am not fussy, surprise me.” “Okay, I will. Lay back and get some more rest. I will wake you when dinner is ready,” I say, and she smiles shyly and moves to lay down. I close her with the blanket and kiss her forehead. “Sleep,” I say, and walk away, before I change my mind and get into bed with her. I need to give her time and space. She has had the worst day imaginable, and she needs time to come to terms with everything.
Before I start dinner, I head outside to see if they are still on alert in the pack lands. Something catches my eye that makes me frown. What the hell are they doing? Cruz is leading two men, who are carrying an unconscious Tony, Amelia’s uncle, to where the cells are. f**k, this is not good. I have to tell Amelia. “Callie, we have a problem and I don't know if I should tell Amelia. You both have had a rough day, and she may not be at full strength yet.” I tell Callie over the connection she established.
“She is sleeping now. What did you want to tell her, my mate?” she purrs in my head and I can't help but smile. “I just saw Cruz take Antonio down to the cells, and he was unconscious,” I say and she growls. “Your brother is going to die. Please don't stand in our way. As soon as Amelia is strong enough, we will go rescue uncle and kill Cruz,” she says, and I can hear the anger in her voice.
“Calm down mate, I will never stand in your way. You and Amelia come first, and are the most important thing in my life. You don't have to do this alone. You have me now. I will be with you every step of the way.” I answer and she purrs again. “Good boy,” she says, making me chuckle. “She needs to rest and eat something. Once she has eaten, you can tell her. She is very stubborn and hot-headed, like me. So you will need to learn how to handle her,” Callie says.
“You know that we can't just rush in there. We need to think this through and come up with a plan. I can't have them knowing who I am just yet.” “Fine, but soon. Who knows what they are doing to uncle Tony?" She answers and cuts the connection. “We are going to have our hands full with those two. But I wouldn't have it any other way,” Jasper says in my mind, making me laugh out loud.
“Agreed,” I answered. I see Cruz leave the building that the cells are in, and walk back to the pack house. Maybe I can sneak in when it's darker. I need to know what's going on, and I don't want Amelia in danger. I think I will wait until she goes to sleep for the night, before I head out.
I went back inside and started dinner. I figured steak, potatoes and some veggies would be okay. She needs the nutrients and red meat. I would like to think I am a good cook, because I have had to be. Living alone gave me enough time to learn. This will be our first meal together, so it has to be special.
When I have prepared the food, I set the table, and light a few candles. I don't know if she should be drinking wine, but we are werewolves. It takes a lot of alcohol to affect us. Our metabolism burns through alcohol too fast for it to really take effect. There are some blends of alcohol available that are especially made for our kind, but I would never want to be drunk out of my mind.
If you live the kind of life I do, you need to be sharp at all times. And I won't consume anything that will dumb down my instincts. When I am ready and everything is set, I go into the room to wake her. “Amelia,” I say softly, but she doesn't move. I bend down and kiss her cheek and whisper in her ear. “Dinner is ready, beautiful,” I say, and she smiles, but does not open her eyes.
“I guess I will have to eat those steaks I made alone. Oh well, more for me,” I say with a smirk and walk away. I hear movement, and when I turn around, she is already coming my way. “Sleeping beauty has finally opened her eyes. Was it the mention of steak, or your handsome dinner companion?” I ask and she chuckles. “A little of both,” she says with a wink, walking to the lounge.
She is so perfect. I love that she is just being herself, and she is treating me better than I thought. I was sure she wouldn't want to be near me after what my twin did to her. But it looks like she may be willing to give me a chance. I will make her see that I am nothing like my brother. I can and will make her happy.
“Everything looks amazing, Kai” she says as she looks around. I love how my name sounds coming out of her beautiful mouth. “It's our first meal together, so I wanted it to be special.” “Thank you, it does feel perfect. It was really sweet of you to do this,” she says, and sits down on the chair I pulled out for her. I kissed the top of her head and went to sit on the chair opposite her.
“Please, eat. You need to build up your strength,” I say, and she smiles and starts eating. When she takes her first bite of the steak, she moans and the sound goes straight to my d**k. I shift slightly to accommodate my hardening d**k. But just when I think I can relax, she moans again. “Hmm, this is delicious and perfectly cooked.”
“I have been living alone for a long time. I needed to learn to cook if I wanted to eat properly.” “Well, you can cook for me any day. I am not a very good cook, but I love to bake.” “I know, that makes us the perfect pair, doesn't it?” I say, and she rolls her eyes but smiles. “I must say, this place is very homey. One would never say it is a cave,” she says, looking around.
“Isn't magic amazing?” I ask and she laughs and agrees. “There was a light witch that always visited my parents. She would always do amazing things with her magic. I didn't know her name. I was too little then. She stayed away for years and I only saw her again the day my parents were killed. She was the one that took me to safety before they could kill me too.
She was covered in blood, so I know she was injured. She left me with Tony, and disappeared through a portal. I hope she is still alive. I owe her my life,” she says, and I smile. Eliza will be happy to know how fondly Amelia thinks of her. “Now you owe her again,” I say, and she looks at me in confusion. “Eliza, my witch friend that healed you, is the same witch that saved you that day. She is very much alive and still as powerful as ever.
She saved my life too. She is the one that did all this for me. She taught me how to survive on my own, and she trained me to use my abilities,” I say and she smiles. “We are more connected than I realized. Our lives have been intertwined so much that it's obvious we would end up being mates.
I have loved Cruz my whole life, and my mom always said that a mate bond starts to form long before you realize it. I think I loved that little boy that used to play with me. Cruz reminded me so much of him and the love just grew from there. All the while, I was probably in love with you. We were definitely fated to meet again,” she says, and I can't help the s**t eating grin that crosses my face.
“So, you admit that you already love me?” I asked with a smirk and she rolled her eyes. “How can I not? The mate bond won't allow me to deny my feelings. But I just need a little time before I accept you. A few hours ago, I was rejected. It's just too soon,” she says and I nod. “I understand Amelia. I told you I would wait, and I meant it,” I say, and she gives me that dazzling smile of hers.
We ate and chatted and when we were finished, we drank the rest of the bottle of wine too. It feels like I have known her forever. She is very easy to talk to. I can see the hurt and sadness in her eyes, but she genuinely listened to me and openly spoke about her life before today. Now I have to break the news about Tony. She is probably going to be pissed that I didn't tell her immediately.
“Callie, should I tell her now?” I asked Callie over our connection. “Just give me a minute,” she answers and then goes quiet. I can see they are communicating, but I don't listen in. I don't want to intrude. I only use my gifts when I need to.
