“When Cruz and I were born, a witch prophesied that one of us would bring ruin to the other, and the pack. My father decided that I was the bad omen and cast me out of the pack. They proclaimed Cruz the firstborn, so he was named the heir to the pack. My mother fought my father, but she lost in the end. I was left in these very woods to die. Your father was visiting the pack to congratulate my parents, when his wolf alerted him that a pup was in danger.
He found me, and knew exactly who I was. He had already heard the story of the pup that died at birth, so he figured out what happened. He knew he couldn't take me back to my pack, so he took me with him. He left me with his parents, and because they lived off pack lands, no one knew of my existence. I lived with your grandparents until I was ten, and they kept me well hidden.
When they were killed, a witch friend of theirs took me in. I then stayed with her and when I turned 16, she made this place for me and helped me train. She also has visions, and her vision was clear. The pack will fall to ruin when Cruz takes over as Alpha. She saw all the pack members die in a m******e, and he was the only one left standing. I knew then that I had to help this pack any way I could. So, I have been watching over the pack for years.
Protecting who I can, and thwarting any rogue attacks. From my vantage point, I can see everything. I use the potion to mask my scent, and I have become very good at blending in when I am in my human form. Obviously, I have to hide my face, but I don't mind. I will do whatever I have to, as long as I can protect the pack,” he says, and I find myself smiling.
Now everything makes a lot more sense. There have been many weird things that happened over the years. We would get reports of rogues or vampires heading our way. But when the warriors went out, they would just find the dead bodies or nothing at all. Our pack hasn't been successfully attacked in many years.
“Was it you that saved me from those rogues when I was out in these woods alone on my 15th birthday?” I ask and he smiles. “I have been watching over you from the shadows since I came back here. I vowed to keep you safe because of your father. When I turned 18, I discovered that you were my mate. So that just fueled my need to protect you.
I was waiting for you to come of age to see what would happen. I suspected that Cruz and I would share a mate, and I was right. Lucky for me, he is an i***t and he rejected you. So now, I can have you all to myself,” he says. He moves so fast and pulls me into his arms, that I didn't have time to dodge.
“What are you doing?” I ask. “Holding my mate in my arms,” he answers and nuzzles my neck and I giggle. What the actual f**k? I don't giggle, a warrior never giggles. “Wait, hold on, big guy. We don't know each other. I didn't even decide if I want to accept you,” I say, trying to escape his hold. But who am I kidding? I am not even really trying to escape.
If I wanted to, I could have him on his ass in seconds. He chuckles and it's such a wonderful sound. I feel the vibration of it right into my belly and somewhere else that I don't want to think about right now. Callie is just laughing away in my mind, she is clearly enjoying my discomfort. “I will tell you everything you want to know about me. But I already know everything I need to know about you.” he says, and pulls me over to the bed.
He sits down and pulls me onto his lap and I gasp at his forwardness. Though it's not uncomfortable. In fact, it feels like I should be here. “What do you think you know about me?” I asked him with one eyebrow raised. “I know that you love blueberry pancakes with bacon drenched in syrup.
I know that your favorite color is blue. I know that you fall asleep watching the moon. I know that you know each and every pack member by name. I know that you have been training with the warriors for two years, without using your wolf's strength. I know that you can easily defeat Cruz in a fight.
I know that you still have the last doll your dad gave you before he died. I know that every year on the anniversary of your parents' death, you come to these woods alone to cry. I know that you have been able to communicate with your wolf since the age of 16. I watched over you when you shifted for the first time and I killed the rogues that tried to ambush you. I also know what your abilities are. Do you?” he asked me.
I am still stuck on the little things that he paid attention to. I can't believe he has been watching me all these years. I should be thoroughly freaked out, but I find it endearing. I remember the day I shifted for the first time. I felt so safe, like someone was watching over me. “I do, but how do you know?” I asked, and he smirked. “I have seen you use them. I am very impressed by your control,” he says, and I feel a sense of pride at his words.
“Well, did you see me set fire to my bed the first time I discovered my fire gift?” I asked with one eyebrow raised. “Strangely enough, I did. But I think you handled it beautifully,” he says and chuckles, and I just shake my head. It feels so natural and easy being with him, like it was with Cruz in the beginning.
Callie growls in my head, clearly pissed at my thoughts. She is right to get angry. He is not Cruz. I shouldn't compare them, it's not fair. Its just hard for me to believe I actually have two mates. “Are you okay? Callie seems upset,” Kai asks. Goddess, I love his name. Kai… it just fits. “It's my fault. I was just thinking about how natural it feels to talk to you, like it was with Cruz in the beginning. But I realize I can't compare you to him. It's not fair towards you or me,” I say, and he nods.
“I know it's alot for you to get used to. And you just suffered the loss of your pup. I will wait and try to be as patient as I can. But being this close to you is a dream come true for me. I am sorry if you think I am overstepping,” he says and loosens his hold on me. I immediately feel the loss of his touch and it feels really weird. How can my body already crave to be near him? “No, it's okay, I just need to get used to the idea that I have another mate,” I say, and he smiles and puts his arms around me again.
“Do you know my uncle too?” I ask. “Not personally, and I don't think he knows about me either. Your dad met your mom two years after he found me. I was lucky enough to meet your mom, and you are just as beautiful as she was. She was very kind, and she made me feel very loved when I was with her. When you were born, their visits became fewer. They couldn't leave the pack as much as they did before, becasue they feared for your safety. Eliza, my witch friend, would often use her magic to open a portal for them so that they could check on me.
I even played with you a few times before your parents died. But you were very little then. I doubt you remember,” he says, smiling fondly at the memories. “Strangely enough, I do. I always wondered what happened to the little boy with the blue eyes that used to push me on the swing at my grandparents' place. When I got Callie, I could access the memories I blocked after my parents died.
I know exactly what happened on the day my pack was ambushed. I remember everything I saw.” I say, and he smiles. “I am glad I made an impact,” he says, and I laugh. “I could never forget those eyes. They were the clearest blue I have ever seen,” I say, looking into his eyes, and he smiles, a sort of sexy smile I think I really like.
“When I first met Cruz, he felt familiar somehow, like I had met him before. But I knew it couldn't be. I had never been to the Silver Crescent pack before my parents died. My dad wanted nothing to do with the old Alpha, but he never told me why. Though now I can guess. When the fighting started, a beautiful woman used magic to get me to my uncle, Antonio. He was my mom’s older brother. He took me in and cared for me like I was his own.
We joined the Silver Crescent pack, because they were the closest pack. We were attacked by vampires, and they killed his human mate before he could get her to safety. He knew he couldn't continue to live among humans with a werewolf child, so he came to your father and asked for shelter for the two of us. They thought I was his daughter, and we didn't correct them. So we pretended to be Omegas to not draw attention to ourselves.
Tony told your father that he wasn't able to shift, because of the loss of his mate. He claimed his wolf was too weak, and that was the case in the beginning. But he knew if he shifted, they would see that he was of Beta blood, like my mom was. He made sure that I never showed my wolf to anyone. He told me the time wasn't right, and I should wait until I became the Luna of the pack. He was right though. And something is very off with Cruz. I can't understand why he turned his back on me when we were so happy,” I say.
“I have noticed the same thing. It started over a month ago, when he started going off pack lands. I don't know what is up with him, but he has to pay for what he did to you,” Kai says in half a growl, taking me by surprise.
