Chapter One - The Divorce
It was a cloudy Sunday afternoon. Alicia sat at the dining table as she fought back the tears that streamed down her cheeks. Before her was a divorce letter with the signature of Kelvin - her husband, at the bottom corner of the document. Alicia and Kelvin got married after college. She was an orphan raised by her Grandma and seeking validation, while Kelvin was the son of a prestigious man and heir to his father's riches. Alicia was in love with Kelvin and although everyone believed he was out of her league, she couldn't hold back her excitement when he asked her to marry him. They had been together for three years, and in those years of marriage, not once did Kelvin make her feel like she was worthless. He would buy her gifts when he left the house, and make love to her whenever she wanted it, but everything changed when his new business partner - Camilla, came to the city. Kelvin introduced Camilla as a friend from his childhood and asked Alicia to make her feel welcome whenever she came around. He would force Alicia to cook for her, do her laundry and say it was all to make sure they didn't lose Camilla as a business partner; and ever loving and understanding Alicia did as she was told. A fortnight ago, Alicia walked into Kelvin and Camilla having intense s*x in their bedroom, but after confronting him about it, she received this divorce letter from her husband. Wiping her tears and still refusing to sign the documents, Kelvin walked into the dining room, holding hands with Camila. He frowned as he watched Alicia hesitant about ridding him of their marriage. “What are you waiting for, b***h? Sign the damn papers already!” He yelled as he slammed his fist on the table. Alicia jilted, but mustered the courage to say, “No.” “I won't sign this divorce paper,” she sobbed. “I'm not giving up on our love.” Camilla laughed. “Can't you see it already? There is no more love in Kelvin's heart for a wretch like you. You disgust him.” She muttered. To support her claim, Camilla pulled Kelvin by the collar of his shirt and pressed her lips against his in an intense kiss. Their lips crashed against each other like warriors on a battlefield and even though she felt the urge to stand on her feet and push Camilla off her husband before giving her a dirty slap, Alicia could do nothing. “Is this really how you want to ruin our marriage, Kelvin? With this woman?” She whimpered. “Alicia, you were nothing but a charity case. I needed to make myself look good before the press, and what better way to do so than to marry an orphan who believes she has nothing to her name. I've got what I wanted. I'm richer now, and I don't need you anymore soiling my image. You're worthless.” Alicia felt her heart sting at his harsh words. Her once sweet and loving husband had turned into a monster overnight. Had he always hated her this much? Was she just a s*x toy used to satisfy his animal cravings? A charity case just to woo the press and the business world? Alicia couldn't stop herself from thinking the worst about her husband, but she still couldn't bring herself to believe that it was true. She wiped her tears and picked up a pen from the table. Hands shaking, she slowly but yet surely put down her signature on the documents. Finally, it was over. Three years of being married to Kelvin had gone down the drain, and she had nothing to show for it. An excited Camilla quickly swiped the papers from her hands before she could change her mind and tear them up. “There,” she smirked. ‘Now everyone is happy. All that's left is for you to pack your things and get out of our house. Kelvin and I have a wedding to plan.” Like an electric shock, Alicia's eyes bulged as she stared at Kelvin. She waited for him to deny that he was about to wed his business partner, but he didn't. He pulled Camilla close to him instead and grabbed her ass, giving it a gentle squeeze that earned him a giggle. “Your body is so soft,” he said to Alicia's hearing. “Way more sexy than her.” Alicia stood to her feet and walked back to her bedroom to continue her wallowing, but just after sunset, she heard a loud banging on her room door. “What the hell are you still doing in our house, you witch! Get out of there now!” Camilla was desperate to get rid of her, and she had Kelvin backing her up. She pushed the door open and found Alicia crying on her bed. Without wasting a second, she walked into the bathroom and emerged with a bucket of water which she quickly emptied on Alicia. Alicia jumped from bed, soaked and cold. Her dress was ruined, and so was her already tear-soaked make-up. Seeing that Kelvin was not there, she lunged at Camilla in a resort to fight back, and succeeded in slapping her face ever so hard. “Kelvin!” Camilla wailed, and her lover was in the bedroom barely seconds after her cry for help. “It's Alicia. I came here to tell her to pack her bags and leave the house, but she slapped me. I even offered to help her and pack her things, but she attacked me,” lied Camilla. Kelvin was fed up with the complaints and resorted to using force to chase Alicia out of the house. He grabbed her by her wrist and took her box in another arm before dragging her out of the bedroom and towards the gate. “You're hurting me,” cried Alicia, but Kelvin paid her deaf ears. He threw her bag out the street and pushed her out the gate. “Listen,” he said. “It's over between us. I don't love you. I never loved you. You're so terrible at everything, even s*x. You can't even give a proper head without almost biting my meat off,” he mocked her. The clouds gathered in the sky and crashed against each other heavily. It was going to rain, but Kelvin didn't care. “I'm so glad you're this stupid and naive,” he continued. “It made getting your riches a piece of a cake.” Alicia didn't understand what he meant by her riches, so she barely gave those words a second thought. Her tears streamed down her eyes as she watched her husband turn his back on her and lock the gates. It was a cold, late night, and soon, the heavens began to rain cats and dogs. Wiping the tears in her eyes, Alicia dragged her suitcase as she walked away under the rain, seeking shelter wherever she could find one.
