Chapter 7

288 Words
The days melted together in a blur of sunlit mornings tangled in sheets, long walks on the beach, and nights filled with whispered promises and stolen kisses. Savannah had never felt more alive—or more connected to someone. But something lingered at the back of her mind, a nagging feeling she couldn’t shake. One afternoon, while Logan was out for a swim, Savannah’s phone buzzed on the kitchen counter. She glanced at the screen and froze. Unknown Number: Do you really know who you're with? Be careful, Savannah. He’s not who he says he is. Her heart pounded as she reread the message. Her fingers trembled as she typed back: Who is this? No response. When Logan walked in, his hair damp from the ocean, Savannah’s smile was forced. She couldn’t stop thinking about the text. Was it a prank? Or was there something about Logan she didn’t know? Later that night, while Logan was in the shower, curiosity got the better of her. She opened his laptop on the coffee table, biting her lip. She didn’t want to betray his trust, but the message haunted her. The screen flickered to life, and Savannah’s stomach dropped. There, on the screen, was an email Logan had sent just days before they met. “Target identified. Savannah Carter. Gaining her trust. Will update soon.” Her breath caught in her throat. Target? Gaining her trust? The sound of the shower turning off jolted her back to reality. She quickly closed the laptop, her heart racing. Logan walked out, towel wrapped around his waist, flashing her that familiar, charming smile. But now, all Savannah could think about was the message. Who was Logan Pierce? And why was she his target?
