Joe: She's a full time housewife. Mike: It doesn't matter, I work... I pay the bills (A lady enters the restaurant and goes to sit on a table) Joe: Looks like we have a another client. Mike: Clearly. I'll go take her order. (Mike walks up to the lady) Mike: Good day Madam, May I take your order? Lady: Are you the waiter? Mike: Uhhh, No... I'm a cook Lady: Where's the waiter? Mike: Actually Madam, The cooks are usually the ones taking the orders... This is kind of a local restaurant Lady: (scoffs) I should've known better! (She gets up and exits the restaurant) Joe: What was that about? Mike: She refused to eat because I was the one taking her order. Joe: Some people are just so rude and condescending Mike: (sighs) Tell me about it. I just can't wait for my shift to be over... (Meanwhile) (At Evergreen High) (Mike's son, Christopher and his best friend Tyler are at the locker area) Tyler: Man, Geography class was boring today. Christopher: (chuckles) Is there any day it isn't boring? (Tyler sees Christopher's crush, Claire, talking with her boyfriend, Kelvin) Tyler: Chris! A family of five recently got burnt to death and their whole house was burnt down as well, It's still very unclear what started the fire but this is indeed a tragic loss. Tara: Truly tragic. (She checks her wrist watch) It's almost 4pm and the kids aren't back yet. Maybe Mike will pick them up since he's getting off work early today. (She continues cleaning) (On the highway) (Mike is in his car, driving back to his house) Mike: (singing along to the track playing in his car)??? Girl: (breathlessly) Help me. (She suddenly loses consciousness) Mike: (He looks around) I have to get her to the hospital. (Mike carries the girl into his car and drives off to the hospital) (Later on) (At Evergreen Central Hospital) Mike: So Doctor, How is she? Dr Angus: She's fine now, She was just suffering from mild exhaustion that's all. Mike: Can I see her? Dr Angus: Of course you can. It's ward 12 Mike: Thank you. (Mike goes to the girl's ward) Mike: Hello Girl: You saved me... Mike: Yeah. I found you lying unconscious by the roadside so I picked you up and brought you to the hospital not too long ago. Girl: Thank you so much Sir. Mike: Do you remember what happened? How you arrived at the roadside? Girl: I ran away from home. Mike: Why? What happened? Girl: The house I was living in caught fire, So I managed to run out but before I could call for help... I fainted. Mike: What about the people inside? Girl: They burnt to death. Mike: They were your family? Girl: (sobbing) Yes... They were all I had in this world Mike: That's too sad. (He cleans her tears) What is your name? Girl: My name is... (she smirks ev!lly) Katherine. (Evergreen Central hospital) (In Katherine's ward) Mike: (smiling) Katherine... That's a nice name Katherine: Yes it is. I was named after my great grandmother. (Suddenly, Kelvin grabs Christopher from behind then brutally slams him hard against a locker) Kelvin: (angrily) What's this I'm hearing? Christopher: (confused) Huh... (Just then, Her children - Christopher, Billy and Rachel return home from school) Tara: Welcome home kids. Christopher & Billy: Thanks Mom. (Rachel runs to Tara and she carries her up) Tara: Mmm, Did you miss me? Rachel: (nodding her head) Yes Mom. Tara: I missed you too sweetheart, And guess what? (She keeps on trying Mike's number) (Meanwhile) (At Evergreen Central Hospital) (Dr Angus takes Katherine to the waiting room to Mike) Mike: Is she better now? Katherine: (smiling) Yes. I am. Dr Angus: We decided there was no need to admit her since she has recovered very well. Mike: Yes but there's one slight problem now... She has no home, Her previous house got burnt down along with her family Dr Angus: (To Katherine) You have no relative? Katherine: None that I know of. Dr Angus: We could refer you to a foster home... Katherine: No, I don't want to go to a foster home, I'm too old for that. Mike: How old are you? Christopher: (he shrugs his shoulders) Tara: (she grabs her coat) I'm going out to look for him. (Just then, Someone knocks on the door) Tara: Who is that? Christopher: It might be Dad. Tara: I'll go check. (Tara goes to open the door and sees Mike then she hugs him tightly) Tara: (breaking the hug) Ugh, About time! Do you know how worried I was? Where have you been? Mike: I ran into a slight issue. Tara: Well I'm glad you're okay, But what happened to your phone? I tried calling you but it kept going straight to voicemail. Mike: And these are my kids, Rachel... She's 9 years old, Billy, He's 12 years old and Christopher, He's the eldest, 17 years old. Billy & Rachel: Hello. Mike: Everyone... Meet Katherine Tara: Uhhh, Mike. Can I speak with you in the kitchen? Privately? Mike: Sure. (To Katherine) Make yourself at home. (As Tara takes Mike to the kitchen, Katherine watches them with narrowed eyes) Tara: Who is that girl? Mike: I just told you. She's Katherine. Tara: No I meant who is she? Where did she come from? How did you meet her? Mike: Her names is Katherine and she's a citizen of Evergreen Falls. I found her lying unconscious on the road on my way back home so I had to take her to the hospital to be treated Tara: And then you brought her to our house... A total stranger for crying out loud! Mike: She needs my help. Tara: (sighs) We need to contact the police right away. They can "help'' her. Mike: And what are they gonna do? Take her away to an orphanage or a foster home? Listen, She's too old for that. Katherine just lost her family in a fire... Tara: What a coincidence, I just saw on the news that a family of five got burnt to death in an ghastly fire outbreak. Is she part of that family? Mike: I don't know but I'm going to give her back the life that she's lost... End of discussion. Christopher: (scoffs) Freak. (As Christopher leaves the room, Katherine starts at him devilishly) (Next Morning) (Mike goes to Katherine's room) Mike: Rise and shine, Sleepyhead. Katherine: (slowly opening her eyes) It's morning already? Mike: (pulling the blinds) Yes and it's Saturday! Go and have a shower then come down for breakfast, Mom and I are going to take you out for shopping. Katherine: (smiling) Mike: Don't be long. Katherine: I won't. (As Mike leaves the room, Katherine reaches for the box under her bed. She opens the box which is filled with multiple serum doses and then takes one & injects it in her arm) Katherine: (groaning) Uhhh... (When the pain relieves her, She hides the box back under her bed) (Downstairs) (At the dining room) Mike: What's for breakfast honey? Tara: Bread, eggs and bacon. Mike: (sniffing the air) Mmm, No wonder everywhere smell so heavenly Tara: (chuckles) Settle down, It's almost ready. (Mike sits on the chair. Christopher and Rachel enter the dining room shortly after) Mike: Where's Billy? Christopher: He's having his bath. (Just then, Katherine enters the dining room) Katherine: (To Tara) Good morning ma. (Tara glances at Mike and he signals her to reciprocate Katherine's greetings then she looks at Katherine) Tara: (sighs) Good morning. Did you sleep well? Katherine: (she sits on a chair) I did. Tara: (fake smiles) Great. Christopher: Dad, I saw you cleaning your car earlier this morning. Mike: Oh yeah Christopher: Well today's your day off from work so where are you going? Mike: Your Mom and I are taking Katherine to the shopping mall today, We're gonna get her some new clothes and shoes. Christopher: Wait, What about the video games you said you were gonna get me? Mike: The video games can wait, Right now we have more important matters to take care of. Christopher: (he points at Katherine) Like her? Mike: She has a name, Chris... (When Mike and Tara leave, Katherine glances around then looks to the TV up the wall) News Reporter on TV: Just in, There's been recent investigations concerning the house which got burnt down along with a family of five, The police are saying that the fire wasn't an accident, It was indeed arson... Which means someone deliberately started the fire. (Katherine immediately grabs a nearby screw wrench and hurls it at the television, destroying it) (Back at the Johnson's Residence) (In Christopher's room) Christopher: (enraged) Man, I hate that f*****g b***h! (Tyler calls him) Christopher: (he picks the call) What?! Tyler: (over the phone) Hey, Has your Dad gotten you the new released video games? Tara: Claire Kiddman's parents must be going through a lot. Mike: Indeed Tara: I'm gonna go have a shower. (She goes into the bathroom) (Just then, Joe calls Mike) Joe: (over the phone) Hey Mike, How're you? Mike: I'm good Joe: Cool. I saw Lori Denman leaving the restaurant with a gift bag that had your name on it. Mike: Yeah I know, She wanted me to have it but I refused. Joe: Why? Mike: (quietly) I have a feeling she's up to something. Joe: Something like what? Mike: Sending me love messages, giving me lots of gifts... It all comes down to one thing Joe: She wants you. (She smiles at him as she leaves the room) (In Katherine's room) Katherine: (she groans as she injects a serum dose into her body through her arm) Uhhh... (Someone knocks on the door) Katherine: Who is it? Tara: (from outside the room) It's Tara, Open up. (Katherine quickly hides the serum box under her bed then rushes to open the door) Tara: Why was the door locked? Katherine: I always lock my doors. Even you and Uncle Mike usually lock the door to your bedroom and I ALWAYS hear moaning sounds coming from the room. Tara: (suspicious) Do you eavesdrop on us?
