“Amara. AMARA! It’s time to go!” Shouted my mom… it’s 6am.. on my 16th birthday.. where on earth does she think I’m going to go? I walked down stairs still in my pjs and see my mom with some weird guy. It wasn’t unlike her to have the occasion (sometimes frequent) over night guys. I mean she is 33.. she’s allowed to have guys over.. but this guy was different, almost familiar. “Amara, this is your father..” my mom explained. “I’m sorry, my what? Did you get married without telling me??” “No Amara, this is your biological father.. he’s been away and would like you to come live with him” “Yea no thanks. Look dude I don’t know you, you don’t know me. You’ve been out of my life since forever so thanks but I’ll stay with my mom” My mom looked shocked at my reaction. “Amara Katherine you will have your bags packed today!” My supposed father shouted. How dare he force me? He doesn’t know me, he wasn’t there! He left my mom 16 and pregnant!! Just vanished! I stood there as defiantly as I could. That is, until, I saw the tears in my moms eyes… “Why do I have to go mom? I’ll do better, I won’t stay out late any more I promise!” “Amara, sweetheart… this was the agreement your father and I made when I found out about you. I promised to care for you until your 16th birthday… you need to get ready to go, I’ve already had the school send your records over” I bolted up the stairs and slammed the door. How dare she just agree to ship me off! To some stranger! I pulled out my phone and texted my best friend, maybe he can help. ‘Ash, moms trying to ship me away to my now existent “dad”’ ‘On my way!’ ‘Just meet me in the backyard I’ll climb down lol’ I threw stuff in a duffle and tossed it out my window. I knew running isn’t the best choice, but what was I supposed to do? Go live with some random dude I don’t know? Hell no.. I climbed out my window and made it to the ground with a thump.. I really need to work on my landing. Grabbed my duffle and was ready to run.. but not ready to run into a steal wall! I looked up and saw the most handsome man. Clearly trying to stop me from running he grabbed my duffle and shouted for I’m assuming my father. “She’s right here Max!” I glared at him.. and all he did was smile the most devious looking smile. Next thing I know I’m being picked up like a sack of potatoes and thrown over his shoulder. “Kick and scream all you want. We do have the court orders making this legal.” “Who the f**k do you think you are! Put me the f**k down!” “Mikey, put my daughter down. Amara you should know, this is for your own good. Please just trust that I’m doing this for you and your mother” “If mom doesn’t want me, that’s fine I’ll just go live with my friends.” “Ah cellphone please. It’s not that I don’t trust your.. friends. I’ll be getting you a newer one once we get home.” “I am home.” “*sigh* Amara get in the car please it’s going to be a long drive and we must get going” I got in the car, well placed in the car… yes I tried to run again.. man that mike guy is fast.. “How long am I stuck in the car?” “We should be in New Orleans my 10.” “LOUISIANA?!?! That’s 14 hours away!!!” “Yes it is.”
