The dark alley bit with a biting cold wind, Lin Qingwan fell to the ground, her robe stained red with blood once. She had fought as hard as she could, but now there was no more strength in her, nothing mattered.

Her mind began to replay the faces of everyone she trusted, and the betrayals that had come with it. That was the first time I began to suspect those smiles, those kindnesses were fake, were unfamiliar. Slowly, those who professed their love and loyalty pushed her to her death.

"Qing Wan..." From the shadows a familiar and cold voice spoke. She tried to open her eyes to see who it was, but she couldn’t. The last bit of light was swallowed up by her world, enveloped by darkness.

First-Person Narrative

With the smell of disinfectant, the faint hum of machinery, I jolt awake. I looked up. The familiar white ceiling informed me that I wasn't dead.

But how is this possible? I know I'm dead and every memory is as clear as yesterday's. That night was still brought to me in betrayal.

I cast my eyes down to my body, and saw no wounds that would stick out. I didn’t feel like I was being cared for carefully; instead, I felt like I was being carefully cared for.

"What happened?" I asked myself, but one question occupied my mind: How did I come back to life? I was dead, I knew this, I knew they thought I was gone forever.

I looked at the city lights beyond, they were still beautiful and alive, just another familiar world, but I wasn’t that Lin Qingwan anymore.

This time, I was born again. My heart was kindled with fire of revenge. But somehow I'll track down those who took my life from me and make them pay for those crimes.

This time however I will not live up to their expectations, or let their lies and deceptions blind me. I will live my own life, I will fulfill my own destiny, and I will no longer be a pawn in their game.

I looked over at the mirror in the corner of the room. For a moment, I hesitated. But when I looked into my eyes, I didn’t see that broken woman who was betrayed and left for dead. I saw someone who was reborn, someone who refused to stay down and re write her own story.

Softly, the door to the hospital room opened and in walked a face I knew all too well: my anchor in my last life, the person who stuck by me when everyone else turned their back on me.

He was there for me, when the world was crumbling all around us. But now, he is different. I could see the guilt in his eyes. Pity. He always knew, didn't he?

" You're awake." Zhao Ming's voice a little nervous. 'I'm not sure you're going to survive.'

I looked at him, confused and cold angry. "How long have I been out?"

"Two weeks," he said stepping closer. "I...I don't know what to do. The doctor said-"

"I don't have any excuses for you," I said, low and steady. "Oh, I want to know who did this to me!" Who told me to shut up?

Zhao Ming hesitated for a moment, his expression trembling, but then he said: "I'll help you." I swear I will. However, I ask, you must promise me one thing. The thing is, you have to make sure that you don't do anything rash. You've been through so much.

I nodded slowly. This is not directed at Zhao Ming’s intentions are good, but I know this. This is about me. And the revenge I want. They gave me a second chance but I won't waste that on forgiveness.

In chapter, Lin Qingwan wakes up in the hospital along with a slight disorientation but a firm determination. She remembers the last moment of her life and the betrayal and now she’s reborn, but into the past. With the info of her previous life, she plots revenge. In this chapter, she’s set up for her to find out what’s really going on, and deal with those who have conspired against her, showing her strength of will and the start of her trek to redemption and justice.
