Chapter Eighteen

447 Words
It was Saturday night. Jess and Sam hadn’t gotten the chance to go out the night before like they had wanted to. Both Suzie and Sarah had been busy and couldn’t watch Emily and Jess wasn’t one for babysitters. Especially when it wasn’t absolutely necessary. Besides Emily didn’t really like to be left alone without a family member present. She would have just cried herself sick. So, instead, they had just taken a stroll around the neighborhood. The three of them had even stopped for ice-cream. They had all enjoyed the experience. Now Sam was helping Emily out of the car in front of one of the classiest restaurant in their little home town. Jess hadn’t been there before as the place was a little too rich for her to afford. Didn’t mean that she hadn’t wanted to go there though. They had all wanted to, but couldn’t yet find an occasion special enough to warrant the bill. She had finally gotten her opportunity. It also helped that she had had no idea this was Sam’s had been planning on taking her. He hadn’t given her a clue when she had asked. He had just said he would take care of it. With the suggestion to eat here being Sam’s, Jess didn’t have to worry about how the bill would be paid. Seemed like Sam had a little bit of money, Jess thought. If only she knew how close that was to the truth. The only correction being that Sam had a lot of money, not a little. They had not discussed much about their lives yet. They hadn’t really gotten around to that conversation, so Jess only knew what she could remember from that night and what Sam had told her in the office that day. They had been too focused on Emily, Jess thought now. They hadn’t spent all their time together discussing Emily. Jess knew that Emily was the important one, but still, she should know something about the man she was exposing herself and her daughter to. Jess wasn’t really worried though for some reason. When she had said as much to her mom, Suzie had smiled and said she didn’t need to. That Sam was a good guy. She didn’t really know what her mother meant by that but she had always trusted her mother and she wasn’t about to stop now. Besides, tonight was as good a time as any to get to know each other. Jess was hoping for the best, that she would like what she would hear. She really liked Sam and the attraction between them was getting stronger by the day. She didn’t want anything to interfere with that.
