Thunder cracks loud enough to drag me straight out of sleep.
I jolt, my breath catching, and then everything goes dark.
No flicker.
No warning.
It is pitch black.
For a second, there’s nothing.
Then the storm crashes in again, rain hammering against the windows, thunder rolling through the house.
I freeze, my heart kicking a little too fast.
“Cass,” Cassian’s sleepy and deep voice is right there.
His arm tightens around me instantly, pulling me back into him.
“I’ve got you.”
I exhale, still a little shaky, my hand finding his without thinking, holding onto him as I press back against his chest.
“It’s just the power,” he murmurs softly. “You’re okay.”
Another crack of thunder splits through the air.
