IN THE ARMS OF THE DANGEROUS MAN

The rain had started just before Luna finished her shift. She stood behind the restaurant counter, rubbing her tired hands together as she watched the rain slide down the glass windows. It had been another fourteen-hour day. Her feet hurt. Her shoulders ached. But she smiled anyway. One day, she promised herself, all of this would be worth it. One day, she would have her own kitchen. Her own restaurant. And her name would be printed at the bottom of a menu as Chef Luna. That dream was the only thing that had kept her going for years. She felt something inside her slowly breaking. “You're right.” She wiped a tear from her cheek. “It's worse than what I think.” “Luna—” “Don't.” Her voice trembled. But she refused to cry in front of him. She turned around. And walked away. She didn't know where she was going. She only knew one thing. She would never come back. Outside, the rain poured harder. Luna walked down the street with tears streaming down her face. She had spent her entire life fighting to build a better future. She had lost her parents. She had worked until her body could barely stand. She had sacrificed everything for her dreams. And now... the one person she thought she could trust had broken her heart. She stopped beneath a streetlight and looked up at the dark sky. “Why?” Her voice disappeared beneath the sound of the rain. She closed her eyes. She didn't know that someone was watching her. The man beside him spoke quietly. “Should we leave?” The stranger didn't answer. He continued watching her.
