The Ticket
I continue my path down the Morris Woods, prepared for whatever may come in contact. My ears are constantly listening for anything that might give my prey away. I know he is around here somewhere, but where? I feel eyes on me as I walk through the forest, I then know that my trap had worked.
Before the eyes can completely settle on me, I jump over behind a big oak tree and hurl my arms up to the branch a foot higher then my own stature. In a swift second I pull myself up with my leg swinging over the branch to balance my weight. Before I can catch my breath a large brown and grey wolf lunges behind the oak tree where he assumed I was waiting to jump.
Before he can figure out my position, I take the poison dart and swiftly throw it down directly into the back of his neck. In less than an instant this useless rogue is laying on the ground panting his last breaths.
"Bet you regret killing those pups from the Silver Eclipse pack, huh Reginald?"
I jump off the branch so that I am standing directly over his dying figure. It made me happy and proud to know that I brought down the big bad Rogue Reginald. The feared rogue of the Midwest and also an outlaw of the entire wolf state.
He look up at me with his dilated eyes, unable to talk or move as his death takes over his soul. I chuckle once I see him draw his last breath.
"Well, lets get to it then."
I grab my blade from it's sheath attached to my waist belt, I raise the blade over my head and in one swift movement the rogue's head is completely off.
"Dead or alive? Eh, I'll make sure the bastard is dead."
While I pick up the bloody decapitated wolf head and stuff it in my prize sack, I hear a twig snap behind me. I can feel eyes looking me up and down from behind.
"Margo? Is that you?!"
I turn around quickly to see a dark haired sss standing behind me, "You took my ticket Madelyn."
I laugh, "Your ticket? I thought anybody could pick this ticket up?"
She shrugs, but I can tell she is pissed. Margo has been hunting Reggie for a total of eight months now, which is why the precinct transferred the ticket to my own wallet, but apparently didn't inform Margo of this.
She shrugs, "Its whatever. I don't know why they keep giving me the most difficult tickets, they should know better."
Her face shows a solemn expression, unfortunately Margo is an amazing assassin, but hasn't had the best luck lately.
"Why don't you just take this back Margo, I don't mind. You need the prize more than I do."
She sighs and I can tell that she doesn't want my pity, but she has a family to feed and this prize might be the only way that can happen.
She nods before taking the sack from me and then I can tell something else is on her mind. She doesn't move or say anything, only holding the sack in her hand as she looks at me with quizzical eyes.
"Why are you looking at me like that Margo?"
She sighs yet again, "Do you think I can trade tickets with you? I know your next one is another rogue, but they gave me another difficult one that I know for a fact I will either fail or die. I can't leave my kids to fend for themselves Maddy."
I ponder her question for a minute, I do like a challenge and at the same time I know that my next ticket is a piece of cake.
"Fine, who is it?"
Her eyes widen in surprise at my lack of reluctance, "If I tell you and you don't want it, it is okay though."
I shake my head, "Just tell me who Margo."
She puts her hand in her pocket and picks out the black ticket before handing it to me with her shaky hand.
I snap it up quickly before my eyes widen in surprise at what I am reading. "Alpha Axel of the Blood Moon pack?"
She nods slowly with her head down. I realize quickly why she didn't want this ticket. For most, threatening any alpha is a death wish. Between going against not just as Alpha, but also his pack. I chuckle at the thought and I feel my heart race in excitement for the challenge.
"Okay, I'll take it."
I hand her my own black ticket for my next run and her eyes widen once again in surprise, "Are you sure though Maddy? I don't want you to get hurt because of me!"
I shake my head, "Don't worry about me Margo, I got this. Just please let Jericho know that we switched tickets, if I tell him I did this again I just know I'll have to listen to an earful."
She nods her head before smiling, "Thank you so much Maddy! You saved my life!"
I return her nod, but I am not as happy as her. I know that if she had pursued this ticket then she would have easily died.
I watch as she shifts into her adorable black and brown wolf and runs away into the night. I sigh in contempt at what I just agreed to. This is really going to be some work, I might as well of start now. I check my supply belt and realize I am low on my poisons, but my weaponry is all good. The Blood Moon pack is only twenty miles east. If I start now I will have the advantage of element of surprise, by getting their before sunrise.
I decide to shift, and stow away my poisons for later. I feel the cracking of my bones as my deep auburn colored fur erupts from my skin and my claws protrude from the tips of my fingers, I grasp onto the ground as my four limbs protrude out and down. I feel stronger, I feel faster, and I feel invincible. These are the feelings I get once shifted.
Before I head out I take what few weapons I could muster and strapped them to my upper limbs using my muzzle. Wolves are a lot more capable than the mere human might believe.
Once ready, I run. I was always faster and stronger than any of the other female or even some male assassins in the precinct. I can remember the day I decided to join. It was exactly one week after my mother was killed by a pack of rogues.
My father, being my father was furious and ready to find whomever killed his mate and mother of his pups. Although being Alpha, he had many responsibilities, so he called the Assassin Precinct. He helped run the precinct, but never actually delved deep into its inner belly like I chose to.
When the assassins showed up, their leader Adonis, saw me training with my father's Beta. He didn't know I was the Alpha's daughter at this time, but hey when life give you lemons. He told me where to go if I ever wanted something more out of my wolf. He was similar to my fairy godfather at this time. Here was a man basically offering me the opportunity to avenge my mother's death.
So I took it, I didn't tell my father at first, but once I was leaving for different training and missions he finally noticed. Especially when he needed me the most and I wasn't there to help. I stop running and feel my wolf whine at the memory of all our fallen brothers and sisters.
I smack the ground roughly with my front paws at the thought, while slapping the bark on a tree in anger. It wasn't smart to unleash my wolf like this, the last thing I wanted was somebody catching our trail. I sniff closely to my surrounding, and once I am sure I am alone I continue my journey to the Blood Moon pack. To kill their Alpha and their leader, Alpha Axel.
