I was no professional when it came to reading the room, but I also wasn’t a fool. I knew when there was something amiss, and in this moment, there was many things amiss—and I wasn’t the only one picking up on it. Monica was also silently reading the room, and I could only imagine what her judgements were. But of course, we could say nothing to one another. We were all sitting beside one another, around the table in which we had been told to seat ourselves since the moment that we had gotten here.
