The next day, I got to school a bit late since I forgot to set my alarm. It was finally Friday.
I have been waiting for this day since Monday.
I went to my locker and got the books that I would need for my first four classes. I went to my first class, the one I shared with Bryce, and found him sitting next to Jazzily. I look his way but he just turns his attention away from me and focused on what Jazzily was saying.
I shrug it off and walk to my desk. I refuse to beg him to talk to me. He should respect my decisions instead of just giving me the silent treatment.
The teacher came in and the class went by smoothly as well as the rest of the others.
As lunch rolled by, I got the bag of lunch that I prepared for myself and went up to the library. I did not want to go through what I went through yesterday.
I got a book about werewolves and sat down on the chair by the window.
I open to the first page and start reading about the jet black wolf:
The white wolf is the strongest of all wolves. It has powers way beyond that of an Alpha. In rare occasions, these types of wolves rise every once in a while. However, not many of them are left. Hunters have been gathering together in this day and age to kill off each and every white wolf that exists in North America along with the jet black wolf.
Just like there is light, there has to be darkness, which brings us to the existence of the jet black wolf. It was a hybrid creation between an omega and an alpha. A mating not meant to happen until tried one day by famous scientist, Dolores Johns. After that, it became all the more a possibility.
With these types of wolves, it is never foreseen what type of side they will embrace: their dark or good side. Sometimes, it may be both. Recently, alphas have been teaming up with the hunters to find these types wolves as research of their past has deepen. Wolves cursed to bloom at a late age and to encounter situations that if not strong enough will lead him/her to their own death.
I felt a tap on my shoulder, which made me jump. I turn around and find Bryce looking down at me.
"Bryce? What are you doing here?" I said a bit out of breath from the scare.
"I just thought you might have forgotten to eat lunch so I brought you some." He extended the PB&J to me. I took it from his hands and place it on the table just like the uneaten lunch that remained in the paper bag.
He nods and was about to turn around when I reached out and held his sleeve. He turns around and looks at me, expectantly.
"Bryce."
He raises one eyebrow when I did not say anything else. I let go of his sleeve and place my hand on top of the back of the chair.
"I cannot tell you what you want to hear because I will not mean it. If you truly care about me, you should respect the way I feel about that night." I look up at him. "I don't regret it but it was a situation that we shouldn't have indulged in."
I heard him let out a small sigh. He went around the table and sat down on the chair across from me.
"I don't regret it either." He said while looking down at his clasp hands that were place on top of the table. "I really do wish you were my mate, Peyton. I really do. You understand me more than I understand myself. You make me want to be better than what I am." He said while looking into my eyes. His blue eyes darkening with every word.
"Don't say that. You don't mean that." I tell him.
"Stop trying to control how I feel. I do mean it with every f*****g fiber of my being."
I felt a chill run down my spine as he said those words. At that moment, the bell for fifth period rang. I took that as my chance to escape this situation. I start packing my stuff when I hear his voice.
"Peyton." I look at him as he looks back at me with hopeful eyes.
"I have swim class right now. I'll talk to you later." I place the book on the shelf and walk out of the library without waiting for him and leaving my lunch on top of the desk.
When I get to swim class, I head straight to my locker and change into my one-piece swim suit. Heading outside with my towel wrap around my body, I sit down on the benches as everyone else talks to each other by the lockers. The coach walks in and blows his whistle.
We all stood up in a line, shoulder to shoulder, with our gear on, ready to swim.
"Alright. Yesterday was definitely a disaster in terms of team work." I heard someone snicker on the line.
"I won't mention names but you do not hinder the dive of your partners. It is dangerous and it could earn you an expulsion if it happens again." The coach said. I really thought I was going to get into trouble.
"Julie, and, yes, you are not allowed to call her like that, and I talked early this morning and decided to teach both of our classes at the same time. The boys will be joining us in a few minutes."
I heard some of the girls squealing with excitement and whispering to each other. If the boys are going to join us, it means that Bryce will be coming in today.
"Their schedules have been changed for the day as well as yours. Please, check your emails before leaving the swimming pool area." The coach continued. The door opened and in walk the guys along with Coach Sanders. This is when I regret being in advanced classes that mingle the upperclassman with us.
"Hello Ladies." Coach Sanders said to us. Some of the guys bark out a laugh. I notice that it was Bryce and his group. "Gentleman, I know I don't have to repeat myself about being respectful or this will not be happening ever again."
The boys quiet down. "Much better. Now, today's practice will go something like this: five teams of two girls and two guys. No more. No less. You will be teaching each other two new diving techniques. By the end of the class, your partner must have perfected the dives."
My eyes met blue ones but I just look away. I can't work with him.
"Now, go and make your teams." Coach Miles said.
I stood right where I was as everyone scatter looking for partners. Best friends went and got two guys that were cool with each other, basically every single one of them.
I felt a presence right next to me. I look at the person and sure enough it was him.
"Defying the odds. Aren't we?" I said more to myself than to him.
"Come on. It is just class." Bryce said right when Jazzily and Georgia walk up to us, to him to be more exact.
"Bryce, we want to partner with you and Jonathan." Jazzily said while ignoring me completely. I act like I was not even part of that conversation and look around.
I know I am being complicated. At first, I wanted to be with him and, now, I don't. The problem is that what will happen once he finds his mate. What will happen to me?
"I'm partnering up with Peyton." Bryce said. He reaches out and holds my hand in his. This is so unlike him. He does not even approach me all that much when his friends are around.
"Bryce, come on. Seriously?" Jazzily said.
"We only need you to make our team." Georgia added. "Plus, if you guys partner up, you'll need two other people and it looks like everyone is almost partnered up."
I kept looking around desperately for a way out. My eyes zeroed in on a group of three.
"I already-" Bryce starts to say but I cut him off.
"My friends are calling me over. I think I'll partner with them." I said out loud for anyone who wanted to listen.
"But you don't hang out with those people."
"Great! That settles it."
Bryce and Jazzily said at the same time. I made him let go of my hand and walk away from their little group. I feel his eyes on me but I still keep walking. Before, I would have wanted to be by his side at all cost but, now, I have to do what is best for the both of us.
"Hey guys, can I join you for this lesson?" I ask them.
They smile at me and nod.
"Sure. I'm Melissa by the way." The girl in the group said while extending her hand out to me and smiling. I guess it won't be as hard as I thought to make friends as an Omega.
The lesson went by better than yesterday. I got really close to Melissa, Eric and Harry. We all mostly worked on the dives that we weren't able to master, until today that is. Every single time I laughed, I felt his eyes on me. Something within me was satisfied by that.
I walk into my last class of the day and sit down next to Marilyn.
"Hey Hey." She said to me.
"Hey." I smile at her as I take my notebook and book out for this history class.
"You won't believe the crazy thing that just happen by my locker during seventh period."
"What happened?" I ask her as I search for my pencil inside of my backpack.
"Bryce actually asked Jazzily out on a date."
I froze on my movements not believing what I just heard.
"Are you sure?" I look at her while frowning. She nods eagerly.
"Well, I guess she is finally getting what she wants." I said trying to sound as if I did not care.
"Tell me about it." Marilyn chuckled. "Even I would've given the poor girl a chance, seeing how much she was going after him."
I chuckle but, in my mind, all I was thinking was that I could not believe he actually did that.
