The pain and horror on his face was too much. I had done that. Caused his heart to break. Me and my damnable words.
And I couldn’t take it. I couldn’t bear the hurt on his face as my words sank into his brain.

My heart shattered right alongside his. I couldn’t believe I had said the words out loud. “I didn’t mean it little one, mummy loves you.” I whispered to the silent air as I made my way into the kitchen.
Gabbys eyes raised from her spot on the island. She pushed the mug she had been stirring over to me without a word and I thanked her with a small nod, wiping angrily at the still flowing tears that were leaking from my eyes.
