I stand hidden in the shadows with my cloak covering my face. No-one has noticed me hiding across the street in the bushes. I am not a coward, I am just observing. All different species that walk through a black set of doubled doors that holds my destiny, don't scare me, perse, but have me intrigued more than anything. I watch their fancy cars pull up, or some just appear out of thin air. I know they can't just appear inside due to the protection on the outside, but they teleport anyway. It's fine for some. I know that Potion's cost a fortune, but there are some lucky folk out there that have the option at their disposal. Myself being one of them due to me having my uncles' powers, I don't use my powers, seeing as I can be tracked by my magical signature, annoying as it may be, I play it smart, and I will continue doing so.
Once the supernatural traffic slows down, I inhale deeply and I take a step out of the bushes and walk with my head held high towards the daunting doors. I can do this, I can and will do this for my family. Xeno appears at my side wearing a suit that defines everything about him, he was here to be a warrior and serve no one. We argued on the way here, I wanted him to be in the shadows and protect me from the sidelines, but he would not budge from the idea of coming in with me as my companion. In conventional sense, a familiar is supposed to be, or is usually an animal of some sort. Xeno is a shape shifter, he can turn into anything or anyone. His magical abilities don't stop there, he can even dress himself how he wants, it's easier to hide if someone is following him, it's his own version of camouflage.
I begin to rub my earlobe in a nervous gesture that my sister had tried to get me out of, but after she passed it came back tenfold. "Don't fret, you will be fine," Oren tells me holding my hand steady in his surprisingly strong arms. "Take the potion before we get inside, so nobody notices." I reach inside my cloak and pull a tiny vial out, the blue and red liquid reminding me of blood that has mixed with sea water, and the taste isn't as pretty either, it slides down my throat and causes a shiver to wrack my body, the effects it has when it changes your aura and blood is weird, it changes me even on a molecular level. I am only being careful, just in case there is a witch or a demon inside the building, they are the most powerful when it comes to reading people's auras. The changing of my blood is for the trial chalice itself, from what Oren has told me, the colour that comes out of the chalice once my blood enters it appears revealing what species you are, I can't have my golden white aura jumping out of it and showing everyone what I am. Seeing the Gods made us with their own blood and power we inherited a similar aura to theirs, just not as blinding.
I walk towards the black doors and breathe in deeply, calming my thoughts. "Are you ready for this baby cakes?" Xeno says softly into my ear, not loud enough to be overheard. I huff and look him in the eyes, "Stop calling me that you overgrown mountain of Fae sh..." I'm cut off by the doors swinging open, an older man, or should I say goblin with his pointy ears, pointy nose and sharp teeth stands holding a tray with glasses filled with champagne. His old style clothing suits his brown aura, the green waist coat with small embroidered trees all over in gold. The majority of supernatural's will dress to their aura colouring or their powers in this case I'd say the goblin is of the earth. Xeno grabs two glasses and passes me one, he nods to the goblin and guides me inside. The inside is grand but old, gold's everywhere, with a mahogany wooding for the staircase, and panelling, the only thing I personally like is the chandelier, it glistens as if there are actual tear drops falling, it's beautiful. We enter the hall where a load of chatter is coming from, I stand with my back to the wall and keep everyone in my line of sight. "You should take your cloak off or your hood at least, we don't want them to think that you are here for Ill intent," Oren whispers into my ear. I keep an eye on the people closest to me. They are all dressed up in pretty gowns and suits, all colours under the rainbow, you name it and it is here. They probably have a weapon hidden somewhere on their person. Slowly once I know nobody is paying attention to me, I pull my hood down and sip from my glass, bubbles cascade across my tongue and relaxes me a little. I wonder what it would be like just to go out and do whatever it is you wished, I have constantly been hidden in the shadows and it does get lonely in the darkness, I probably would have gone insane if it wasn't for Oren always nagging at me or my sense of feelings with Xeno always deep in my chest, we are linked, unfortunately, to some degree that's not a good thing, if I died Xeno would die with me but if he died I would always have a piece missing, a hole in my chest. But our lives are linked more than any other.
A man wearing an expensive suit with a cape of all things comes out of the curtains at the top of the stairs, his white hair and beard reaching his chest, and slight wrinkling crinkles at the corner of his eyes. Next a woman steps out in a gold gown, and diamonds on every piece of material she could get away with making her a beacon for attention. She is of the same age as the man but her hair is neatly placed into a bun on the top of her head giving us a falsehood of a facelift and youthfulness.
"I would like to say thank you to every one that has come to join the trials tonight, as we all know this is a spectacular time." The male drones on as I watch around the room, my gut twist suddenly as I see a similar set of shoulders and head of hair. This can't be happening!
I thought, I don't know what I thought, but this can't be real. Fear slowly starts to settle in my chest when the man in question turns around and his green eyes meet mine.
This is the man wolf from my dreams, I knew I should have listened to my gut but my heart lead me. I look away quickly, 'It's ok' I tell myself, ignore him, nothing on this planet will stop me from winning my prize.
