What to do?

1374 Words
Oren flies towards me a smile across his face, "Yes I know, maybe this is what you were supposed to do, I have been with you for a long time Regin, it's time to get your family back," he tells me with a confidence I didn't know his body could hold. Let's say I join this quest to get the prize, what if they find out what I am? What would I do then? I shouldn't be scared but deep down I am a little, but also excited at the prospect of possibly being able to get them back. I am the last hope for my family. "Ok, what's the first step?" I ask, his excitement is paramount, his eyes shine and a smile lights up his face, making me squint at him. "Shopping," he replies. I stand up and grab the food to bring it to the table, "What in the world do I need to go shopping for? Is this a ploy?" I place a bowl of soup on the table, the steam rising into my face followed by a heartwarming smell that reminds me of when I was a child. "No, Reg, we have to go to a ball to sign up," I look at him incredulously, he places his hands in front of him like he is trying to placate me. "Ok, it's more of a get together in a huge room and everyone dresses fancy," ugh, I don't like anything that will limitate my fighting. "No, I will be going in my armour and that's it," I place a soup filled spoon in my mouth and sigh happily, my sister said I was hard-headed and I'm not about to stop now. "Won't that draw attention to yourself?" he asks sipping from a thimble. I shrug, maybe. But I doubt anyone will turn up in their best attire for the night, just to sign a little piece of paper. "I know that look, how about we do your hair and make-up, we will wait outside and see what others are wearing and then you can dress to what everyone else is wearing," he flies up and refills my glass of witches brew with a click of his fingers. Ah, I see what he is doing, he is trying to get me drunk as he does with the folks from the bar he goes to, I chuckle and shake my head, obviously, he has never tried to out drink a Valkyrie before. Yes, a Valkyrie, born from Gods and the ultimate warriors, we are of the highest pecking order that's why the other Supernatural's decided to team up against us, we hold God's powers in our veins or I should say held, I currently hold all the power in my long line of relatives, they were transferred down until I was the last woman standing. My strength, speed and senses beat that of a werewolf or a vampire, I can fight with any type of weaponry, as I have trained for centuries. "Fine, I will compromise to the hair and make-up, but I will be wearing my armour, "I look at him pointedly until he concedes with a nod. Finishing off with my meal I stand up and clean the dishes, it is only right he cooks and I clean, even if he does use magic it is still the best food I have ever had. "So, you will have to make allies while in the trials," I look at him pointedly, he knows I am not good at social situations, especially with other creatures. He holds his hands up, "They all do it, with each having their own skills can get them further into the games," he reminds me. For two hours we have sat down and spoken about the trials, what I am expected to do, behave, yadda yadda. I don't know if I can or will remember any of this, but at least I will have Oren in my hair, directing me as we go. "Just give me a bull-horned demon and I can kill it without thought but all this," I gesture with my hands, "Dresses and courteous behaviour has vomit scraping the back of my throat," he laughs at my obvious disdain, and I shoot him a look. Sighing he floats over to my shoulder and pushes a few hairs from my face. "You will win Regin, even if you have to play a part that isn't you. we will bring your family back and kick ass while we do it," I smile softly at him, tears burning the back of my eyes. I hold my hand out for him to jump into, he weighs nothing more than a pound as his feet land in my palm. "If only you were big enough I would hug you," he jumps up and floats towards the door. "If only you were small enough I would do a lot more than a hug," he winks and flies out the door leaving me on my own with his chuckle, I shake my head and make my way over to the television that has been sat unused by me but Oren calls this his cinema room and frequently tries getting me to watch all sorts of things with him. Turning it on, a news channel is reporting about a missing teenager, I click to another channel only to find a man with a shirt with science pictures getting angry over someone sitting in their spot, I turn it off and decide to go to my room instead. When did my life become so boring? I used to be so much fun, well, that was when my family was alive. I sigh and close my bedroom door, all I seem to do these days, is train, eat and sleep, Maybe I should go out, I shake my head dislodging that thought, that wouldn't be a good idea, would it. I lie in bed and close my eyes, instantly darkness greets me and I get sucked into a dream. Blackness seems to come out of nowhere in the middle of the forest, winter has set in, my bare feet sink into the snow, causing my toes to turn bright pink. "What is a little thing like you doing out here?" A sultry voice asks from behind me, I whip around only to be greeted by a man so tall I have to lean my head back to meet his eyes, which are shining through the darkness, they are green like a ripened apple. His wide-set shoulders taper off into a 'V' his muscles have muscles, I gulp and take a step back even though my thoughts are telling me to take a step forward. His long blonde hair has twigs and leaves sticking out of it, and that's when a strong scent hits my nose having me backpedalling, he's a wolf. I shake my addled brain and realise he is completely naked, how did I not notice this before? His eyes captivated me, that's why. Turning around I run as fast as I can, everything is a blur as I race past it, trees, a pond and that's when I hear the pounding of being chased, twigs breaking and heavy panting. A snarl erupts from his throat as I make my way to the edge of the woods. Why am I running? I stop and turn around to face him, his green eyes meet mine a minute later as he steps out into the clearing, my fist connects with his face and sends him colliding with a tree, he pushes himself to his feet and runs towards me. I awake with a jolt to find Oren banging on the door to the rhythm of my heart. Sweat beads across my skin, "Just one day, will you not wake me up?" I ask him while placing my head back on the pillow, "You was tossing and turning in your sleep," he says floating over to me and sitting on the pillow next to me, "It's fine don't worry about it, I'm going to get a few more hours sleep," I tell him closing my eyes and fall asleep to him playing with my hair.
