2 - Eagle Moon Pack

Savannah     When Dr. Braden pulled off the highway, he drove down a long, curvy road that had nothing but trees surrounding it.  There were a few times when I thought I saw a wolf or two running through the forest, but I only got a quick glimpse, so I couldn’t say for sure.     Finally, I started seeing a few cabins here and there, then all of a sudden, two huge structures came into view.  One appeared to be a mansion or something of that magnitude, and the other looked to be a small hospital.     After Dr. Braden parked his badass car that I absolutely loved, he got out of the car and walked to my side.  When he opened the door, I tried to get out on my own, but he wouldn’t let me.       Instead, he insisted on carrying me into the hospital, then he scooped me up in his arms and out of the car.  That’s the first time I thought I felt something tingle on my skin, but it happened so fast, I thought I might be going crazy.       As soon as he stepped inside the building, I noticed right away that it wasn’t your typical hospital.  There was a lot of the regular medical equipment that you see at a hospital, but they weren’t all separated in different rooms.      In addition to that, there were cots all over the place, but there wasn’t a single patient there at the moment.  However, there were three other doctors sitting behind desks.     When they looked up to see Dr. Braden carrying me, the older woman with curly black hair jumped to her feet and rushed over to us, as she worriedly asked, “Jameson, what do we have here?”     “Aunt Courtney, this is my mate, Savannah.  Somebody hurt her, but she won’t tell me who.  I brought Savannah here to get her wounds tended to, and to ensure that whoever did this to her can’t do it again,” he quickly explained.     After Jameson set me down on a cot, the woman started fussing over the many bruises decorating my face.  Suddenly, I most definitely felt a jolt of electricity, and it came from Dr. Braden’s hand when he reached over and took ahold of mine.     Right away, I yanked my hand out of his grasp and warily asked, “What in the hell was that?”     “What?” he asked in return with confusion evident in his voice.     “I swear, you keep shocking me!” I grumbled in exasperation.     Dr. Braden chuckled at me before responding, “Sweetie, that’s completely normal.  It’s one of the best things about being mated to someone.  We share a special type of bond called a mate bond, and it creates the most wonderful sparks whenever we touch each other.”     “Huh?” was all I could manage to get out in response, as I tried to make sense of what he had just said, but none of it made any sense.  All I could think was that this doctor must be a total quack or something.  There’s no such thing as mate bonds and sparks.     I was brought out of my thoughts, when I heard him say, “The Moon Goddess blessed us with this special bond, and I hope you will give me the chance to prove how serious I am about being a good mate to you.”     What in the hell is he talking about?  Moon Goddesses and mate bonds?  This guy must have lost his damn mind.  I was a fool to let him bring me out to the middle of nowhere.     I was brought out of my thoughts once again, but this time it was the sweet, black haired woman asking if she could stitch the wound on my lip.  I nervously nodded my head at her, then she had me lay back on the cot.     The whole time she was stitching my lip, I kept replaying Dr. Braden’s words in my head, but I still couldn’t come to terms with what he said.  By the time she was done, I was ready to get the hell out of there and go back to the city.     However, I was in for a big surprise.  Out of nowhere, the doors to the hospital burst open, then a whole pack of wolves came running into the hospital.  Instantly, I screamed in sheer terror and attempted to scramble to my feet, so I could run, but I lost my footing and fell on my ass.     Before I could try to get up again, the wolves were all over me and Dr. Braden, but I was too busy trying to fight them off to realize they were just licking me.  Frantically, I screamed and cried while flailing my arms and legs to scare them away, but that only got me growled at by a few of them.     Fearing for my life like I did every day, I curled up into a ball and started sobbing, while I waited for the beating that I was sure to get.  However, that beating never came.  Instead, I was scooped up by those somewhat familiar strong arms, then I was carried to one of the private rooms.     As soon as Dr. Braden sat down with me on his lap, he started caressing my cheek.  Those mysterious sparks had some type of weird calming effect on me, because I soon stopped crying. Jameson         I could tell my mate was extremely confused when I started talking about our mate bond.  That’s when I knew without a shred of doubt that she had no clue what was going on.     While Courtney put stitches in Savannah’s lip, I was surprised to see her stay so still.  I know it had to be painful, but she didn’t wince a single time.  Despite the fact that she was a human, my mate was stronger than I expected her to be.     However, that was just the physical part of Savannah.  The mental part was put to the test a few minutes later when my siblings and cousins ran into the pack clinic in the wolf forms.       Savannah immediately started screaming at the top of her lungs, then she tried to jump off the cot, but her feet slid out from under her, causing Savannah to fall on her butt.  Before I had a chance to help her up, my family was on top of us, trying to show us love by licking our faces.     Unfortunately, Savannah was entirely way too freaked out to notice that my family wasn’t trying to hurt her.  She ended up curling into a ball on the pack clinic floor, while loud, terrified sobs made her whole body shake.     I felt horrible for not warning her about us being wolves, but I hadn’t found the right time to do that, because she had been acting so cagey.  To make up for my mistake, I scooped my terrified mate up in my arms and carried her to one of the private rooms.     As I pushed the door closed, there was no missing the concern and curiosity that swirled in the eyes of my siblings and cousins.  I wanted to share the great news about me finding my mate, but first, I needed to calm her down and better explain to her what was going on.     Right away, I sat down with Savannah resting on my lap, then I gently caressed her wet cheek.  She kept her eyes closed tight while she cried a little longer, then her sobs started to subside, turning into loud hiccups.     When she finally opened her beautiful, amber eyes and gazed up at me, I saw an emotion in them that I had yet to see.  For just a second, I saw love flash through those orbs, before it changed to wariness as she timidly asked, “Where am I?”     “Sweetie, you’re at the Eagle Moon Pack,” I immediately answered.     “Pack?” she mumbled in confusion.     “I need to tell you something, but first, you have to promise that you won’t freak out and run,” I nervously stated.     “Just spit it out,” she grumbled.     “We’re all werewolves here, and we have some werecats and hybrids here as well.  Have you ever heard of our kind before?” I nervously asked.     “Yeah, but I always thought they were just folklores.  So, you’re telling me that those wolves out there are actually werewolves?” she skeptically responded.     “Yes, sweetie.  That’s exactly what I’m saying,” I quickly replied.     “This is too much for me.  Please, take me home.  I’d rather take my chances with my father,” she begrudgingly mumbled.     “What do you mean… take your chances with your father?  Is he the one who put these bruises on your face?” I asked with a hint of anger.  Just the thought of her father putting his hands on my mate like that was enough to make me see red.     “Yes,” she answered barely above a whisper.     I could see the embarrassment written all over her face, and I didn’t want her to feel that way, so I hugged her against my chest and softly murmured, “Savannah, I can’t in good conscience take you back there.  It’s my job to keep you safe.”     “No it’s not!” she dejectedly muttered.     “Yes it is, mate!  I’m not taking you back there unless it’s to retrieve your belongings,” I adamantly insisted.     “Please, don’t make me stay here with a bunch of savage beasts!” she cried with new tears forming in her eyes.     “Savannah, please don’t call my family savage beasts.  We are anything but savage!  Yes, there are savage wolves and werewolves out there, but none that live in this pack!” I assured her, as I tightened my arms around her body.     To my surprise, she snuggled her face against my chest, then she cheekily mumbled, “You smell so good.  What is the name of that cologne?”     I chuckled at my cute mate before answering, “Honey, that’s not cologne.  That’s my scent.  It’s pine and the ocean.”     “The ocean… I’ve never seen it.  If I agree to stay, will you take me to see the ocean sometime?” Savannah asked with curiosity.     “I would be happy to,” I assured her while rubbing my hand up and down her back.     That’s when I noticed the massive swelling on the lower portion of her back.  Right away, I lifted up on the back of her shirt to see a massive, protruding bruise on the left side of her back.  Knowing there was something seriously wrong, I calmly set Savannah on the cot and asked her to remove all of her clothing.     At first, she was reluctant to do so, but after I gave her a gown to put on, she agreed to do it, if I left the room for a second.  I could understand her hesitation to undress in front of me, since I was still a stranger in her eyes, so I left the room and went straight to my Aunt Courtney.     She could see the worry on my face and immediately asked, “Is she okay?”     Suddenly, I was surrounded by the rest of my family that was there, and they all started asking me questions all at once.  They were all excited, but I didn’t have time to engage in a lengthy conversation.     Right away, I shushed them to be quiet, then I anxiously stated, “Yes, that is my mate.  Her name is Savannah, and she is a human.  She is only just now learning that werewolves are real, so please give her some space until she adjusts to everything.”     After that, I turned back to Aunt Courtney and informed her, “I think Savannah might be suffering from internal bleeding.  Since she seems to like you, will you help me with the examination?”     “Of course I will,” she kindly responded, as she grabbed her stethoscope off the desk, then she followed me to the private room where I left Savannah.
