“What?” I cried out, feeling beyond horrified. That was the only word I could muster after all that I’ve just heard.
“That’s it. Now, his beast has never been sated since he got into this state. We’re hoping that with you being a pure blooded maiden, you’ll be able to fully sate his beast for once, so he’d be able to switch back to human.”
I was currently gaping at him because at first, I had thought he was bluffing, but now, it sounds like he was being very serious and I didn’t know what to think.
A beast? Like an actual beast?
I haven’t even seen an actual wolf before. Werewolves lost the ability to shift into their animal forms centuries ago, but they still had a wolf within them, unlike me.
“I don’t… I don’t know what to say.” I finally breathed out and he chuckled mirthlessly.
“Take your time.”
“I don’t know what to say though, cause I- I don’t think I can let a beast sleep with me. Hearing it alone sounds very terrifying.” I muttered.
“He can’t speak, right?” I asked almost immediately and the stand-in nodded tensely.
“That’s correct.”
“Can I please see a picture of him in before the curse?” I asked after a few moments. The stand-in stood and walked down a hall, and I tentatively trailed after him till he stopped before a very large portrait.
“That’s him.”
A gasp caught at my throat at the sight of the picture. I recognized him immediately from my past life. His grey eyes were as menacing as ever, and it felt like he was staring into my soul from the portrait.
He was indeed the pack’s alpha king from my past life. We never had an encounter before, and if I remember correctly, in my past life, exactly a week after tonight—-my two years anniversary with Gregg— this alpha king mysteriously died, then a different bloodline ascended the throne because the alpha didn’t have any heir.
Did he die in the past because of this same curse that turned him into a beast?
Holy s**t!
I felt chills roll down my spine, suddenly feeling unnerved. For a moment, I briefly wondered if I got this second chance for more than one thing.
Was I given a second chance so that I could save him this time?
I bit on my bottom lip and shoved those thoughts away. That’s definitely not it, I’m just starting to unconsciously deepen the situation.
Whatever it is that is wrong with this alpha king isn’t my business, right?
After all, I had my own problems to overcome.
I let out a sigh as I faced the stand-in. “Well… I can’t do it. I’m sorry,”
He leveled me with a pointedly look. “But you can’t leave. Have you forgotten the contract?”
I raked a finger through my hair as I glanced around for a moment. “I’m sorry, okay? I really am, and I’m grateful for your help. But I can’t do it. Don’t make me do it, please,”
His eyes were hard as he kept staring at me. There was a scary edge around him and I ended up looking away first.
A sigh filled the office moments later.
“You can leave if you want.” He announced and I couldn’t believe my ears as relief flooded my veins.
“Oh my gosh, really?! Thank you so much for real!” I gushed out. He was silent but he penned his number for me.
“In case you change your mind, call me,”
I nodded as I stuffed the paper in my bag, knowing damn well that I definitely won’t be changing my mind.
As I left the office, I felt guilt eat at my insides, but I shoved it away almost immediately as the terrifying thought of me f*****g a beast flashed through my mind.
I’d pass, please.

As I left the palace, I was speaking with an uber driver when I was suddenly grabbed from behind. My scream was instantly muffled with a hand, and I was being shoved into a car before I could blink. I struggled against the strong hands holding me and bit the hand muffling my mouth.
“f*****g bitch.” The man swore as he pulled his hand away.
“Who the f**k are you guys?! Let me out this instant!” I yelled loudly while my heartbeat began to pound like crazy. They didn’t respond, and before I could demand again, a call came in and the one on my left side answered.
“Yes. We have her, sir. Of course, Sir Gregg. We’re on our way already.” The man added and I grew frozen, feeling like I just got hit in the face.
Fuck!
Gregg was the one who sent these guys?
Fuck! I was so f****d!
After about ten minutes, the car pulled up right in front of Gregg’s house and I was so certain I was beyond f****d this time. There were no two ways about it. Gregg would get back all the money and documents from him, then he’d undoubtedly imprison me.
This is my second chance at living and things still weren’t going so smoothly.
Is fate not supposed to be on my side this time?
The three men stepped out of the car and locked it from the outside, and as I watched them head into the compound, I quickly dug into my bag with shaking hands. As my fingers met with the paper the stand-in alpha gave me, I almost fainted from relief and I quickly dialed his number.
As soon as he answered the call, I quickly rambled off my location and pleaded with him to help me. He was the only one I could call, and if he left me to my fate, then I was doomed. He refused to help me except I gave him my word to help his brother with the breaking of his curse.
Right after I agreed, the car door was opening and I was being dragged out by Gregg, and before I could speak, he was slapping me hard across the face.
All that happened next was a blur.
One moment, Greg was screaming bloody murder and threatening to kill me for daring to mess with him. He was slapping me hard and demanding where I kept his money and documents but I only laughed in his face and refused to respond.
Then unexpectedly, the stand-in was arriving with a bunch of guards that captured Greg and roughed him up, then I left with the stand-in for the second time tonight.

My stomach was in knots as we arrived at the palace, because I knew what awaited me, and what I had agreed to do on the phone. But that was honestly out of desperation. Now that we were at the palace, I wanted to run the other way because I was scared shitless.
When I feebly told the stand-in that I wasn’t sure I could do it after all, he had laughed and told me I couldn’t back out anymore and that he was done playing nice, then guards were ordered to capture me.
“You’ll do as you said you would over the phone. And hope that the curse will be broken this time. Else, you might not end up surviving like most of the women he had been f*****g for the past six months since he got cursed. Good luck.”
My mouth fell open as I struggled in the guards’ hold. “Wait! You didn’t mention anything about the possibility of me dying! So I might not survive this?!! I don’t wanna do this, please!” I cried out as I began getting pulled out of the room by the guards.
“Guess it slipped my mind.” He drawled with a shrug and I felt a deep and intense feeling of hatred towards him.
Fuck. I was so f****d.
