3: Help for Help

After I played those recordings for the crowd, the party completely disrupted and my sister hid her face in shame, while rage burned in my mate’s eyes as he stalked towards me. Before he could get to me, the stand-in king was standing between us, and a relieved breath left me. I was really grateful for his help.

“The f**k are you doing? I need to speak with my mate!” Gregg roared and I flinched behind the stand-in alpha king.

“Well, this mate of yours doesn’t want to be with you anymore. You’re a lying and a cheating bastard and you clearly don’t deserve this woman.” The stand-in barked in response and everyone listened attentively.

Gregg was fuming, his hands clenched in anger.

“You can’t come humiliate me at my party. Leave, you’re not the actual king anyway.” He gritted out.

“No, but in the absence of the king, I have as much power… which is why I am here to order you to sever the bond between you and your mate.”

Gregg's mouth fell open and he vehemently declined the offer, then he called my name and asked if we could speak in private.

However, after I stepped around the stand-in alpha king, I slapped him hard across the face.

At this point, I was certain people were recording but I didn’t care. It was more humiliating to Gregg than myself, and that’s why he’s most angry— that this might affect his political stance and ruin his chances of leveling up.

“You bastard. With my sister of all people?! You have no f*****g shame” I cried out, shoving at his chest when he attempt to take my hand while assuring me that he could explain. In my past life, after I caught him, he had me imprisoned. This time that he’s yet to get to the very top, he’s pleading.

What a cunning prick.

Gregg tried saying more, but the stand-in interrupted us and ordered Gregg to reject me. Gregg outrightly refused, claiming he was still in love with me and that we’d settle the little misunderstanding at home.

The stand-in laughed before accepting a document from one of the royal guards, that he handed to myself and Gregg. It’s a written order from the alpha king himself, stating that he ordered the bond to be severed. The letter also carried the royal stamp. I was giddy with happiness and relief, while Gregg growled angrily and tore his own letter.

Then he swore that he wouldn’t reject me, but the stand-in alpha assured me I had nothing to worry about should I sign at the bottom of my own letter, which I quickly did.

Everyone watched in shock and disbelief. My parents were too shocked to approach me, because they clearly never expected stupid, clueless and timid Kiara to ever do this.

After that, I exited the party with the stand- in alpha.

No one could stop me, not even Gregg.

“Thank you so much for helping me, really. I don't know what I’d have done without your help and I’m certain Gregg would have held me back by force.” I said to the stand-in alpha king as we stood beside his fleet of cars.

Now that I had taken the first step of my revenge, I couldn’t wait for the rest. Gregg, my sister, and my parents… they’d all regret messing with me. Since I know all Gregg’s passwords, I’ve moved all his money into a secret account of mine. I’ve moved all important things of mine that I couldn’t afford to lose, along with all Gregg’s important documents, from the house yesterday.

I’ve also already booked a hotel to spend tonight in.

“You’ll be coming with me.” The stand-in said, completely shocking me.

“What?”

“For helping you, you now owe me. Remember?”

I frowned and reluctantly nodded. “I do, but I thought you’d tell me out here.”

He shook his head. “I’d rather we talk in somewhere private. So, shall we?”

I was sitting in the same office I was in two days ago just as the stand-In began to speak.

“So, for your own side of the deal, you’ll help my brother out with his curse.” He revealed and I blinked at him in confusion.

“Huh?”

His face had a pinched expression on. “My elder brother got cursed six months ago, and you’ll help him break it.”

I blinked once again. “Um, I don’t understand what you mean. How am I supposed to help him?”

“You’re pure blooded, right?” He suddenly asked and I sucksd in a sharp breath before slowly shaking my head, my body taut.

He gave me an unimpressed look. “You have the crescent markings in your eyes. You’re definitely pure blooded and that’s why you’re needed. The soothsayer who checked out my brother said a pure blooded maiden is who’d help him break the curse.” He sighed once he finished, but now I was on edge.

“I’m sorry, but I refuse. Ask for something else.”

“But this is the only thing I want.”

“I still refuse.” I affirmed. I didn’t get reborn to start being used for this gift of mine once again.

The stand nodded at the table. “The contract you signed before I helped you stated that you cannot refuse my offer.”

I vehemently wanted to argue but I instantly stiffened on remembering that I hadn’t read the contract before signing.

Shit!

“And besides, the man in question is the actual alpha king. As you now know, I’m just a stand-in. He’s the one that can sever the bond between you and your mate with a bite of his, since everyone in this pack is underneath him. If you don’t agree to help him, your mate might end up getting his hands on you and since your bond is yet to be severed…”

He trailed off and I swallowed, my stomach clenching with slight nervousness before I huffed.

“Fine, I guess. What do I have to do?”

“Nothing much. The curse is supposed to break through copulating.”

I choked on literal air.

“What?? Copulating as in s-”

“Yes. It’s sex.” He blurted and my cheeks heated as I got to my feet.

“Sorry but I refuse. That’s just crazy. There should definitely be another way.”

He got to his feet as well. “But there isn’t. If there is, I won’t be speaking to you right now. I’d have helped him undo the curse myself.”

“Who cursed him?”

His lips thinned. “That’s none of your business. So, are you in?”

I bristled. “Why are you speaking to me in the alpha king’s place if he’s truly cursed and needs my help?”

A bitter look settled on his face as he spoke. “He can’t speak to you… or anyone.”

I stared at him suspiciously. “Why?”

“Cause he’s now a beast. That’s the curse, he was turned into a mindless beast that only wants to f**k or kill. Nothing else can cure him except when he f***s and feeds on a pure blooded maiden at the same time.”
