DIVORCE
Stacy pov
I was riding my scooter before I noticed I was being followed by five different luxurious cars. ‘What is wrong with this boy? Why would he follow me?’ I thought in my head. While I was still thinking, a passer-by asked me to stop.
It seemed like I was being waved down. With intense breath that left my nostrils, I stopped my scooter. The five cars after me stopped.
I stepped down off my scooter and Mr Paul; my personal watchdog stepped down from one of the cars. While different guards stepped down from the other cars. They all accompanied Mr Paul.
Getting in front of me, they all went on their knees. “All hail the heiress.” I was pissed with that performance. Paul could tell with the way I glared at them.
Paul stood on his feet and he walked in close proximity to me. “What is your problem? Paul. I told you I kept my identity a secret. Do you want to blow my cover with this?” I widened my eyes at him.
“I am sorry, Ma. Since you said you are going to reveal your identity to your husband today. I deemed it fit to honor you.” “By the way, did you get those flowers for him?”
Hearing him ask that question, I squeezed the bouquet I held in my hand a little tighter. “I don't like it that way. For now, make my identity a secret.” “Why are you after me though?” I furrowed my gaze at him.
“Ma. I want to tell you that I have recommended your husband to the dragon company and today, I received good news from them. He has been accepted into a top position. From now on, your husband is a big shot.” Hearing that, my lips curved with a smile.
“Get going now. I need to see my husband.” “And with this bouquet, we will strengthen our relationship even more.” Mr Paul bowed his head. He clapped his hand and they all took their leave.
…
I rode my scooter home. Getting to the entrance of the house, I thought to myself. ‘Today, I am going to reveal my identity to him. I am going to let him know that I have been the one behind his success.’ ‘And now that things have changed for him, he will be able to treat me like the queen that I am.’ I snapped out of the thought. I stepped into the house.
Getting inside, I met an eyesore. My husband; Greg, was with another woman in the sitting room. They weren't sitting down.
“What took you long? I have been waiting for you.” He arched his eyebrows at me and that only made me smile. I thought he had missed me for just a short period that I wasn't at home.
“I am sorry. I went to get this bouquet for you. And who is this lady with you?” I kept a calm gaze at him.
“This lady here is Fiona; the woman that is going to replace you.” Hearing that, I couldn't wrap my head around those words.
“Replace me? I don't understand.”
“I will speak in plain terms, Stacy. I am ending this marriage.” Those words hit me like a dagger. It seemed like a joke.
“Five years of marriage? You can't mean that.” I looked into his eyes.
He smirked. “Haven't you heard? I have just been hired by Dragon Empire; a top company in this city. My salary a year is now thirty million dollars.” “Can't you see that we are not in the same class any more? Can't you see that I will be mocked when people see you and I together.” “No hard feelings, Stacy. We are no more compatible.” I can't believe those words coming from him.
“Are you leaving me because of your new position?” I widened my eyes.
“Yes. I realized I can't stay with a pauper like you any more. People like you will only drag me to the mud.” This was unbelievable.
“What?! I can't believe you would say this to me after our five years of marriage.” “I have been supportive and caring through these five years. When you had nothing, I stood by you. Where was this lady then?” I moved forward to touch him.
Only for him to jerk my hands off him. “Don’t you dare lay your filthy hands on me?” “You are just a freeloader and I am not interested in you anymore.” Fiona brought out some documents from her bag and handed it over to him.
“Stacy. This is where we end our five years journey. Sign the divorce papers.” Hearing that from the man I love so dearly broke my heart into pieces. For the five years of our marriage, I have been nothing but supportive and caring.
“How can you be this cruel? Greg. Just because you got successful, the first thing you do is to divorce me after all the sacrifices?” My voice squeezed out in pain.
“I know your problem, Stacy and I am going to fix that for you. Out of my salary, I am going to pay you two million dollars for all the sacrifices. I believe this would start a life for you.”
“I don't need your money, Greg. Now that you are successful, I believe we will enjoy it together.” Fiona cut into the conversation. “So your plan is to milk him after all. Greg is right for divorcing you.” “People of your class will only give him setbacks and nothing more.”
“If you know what is right for you. Sign the divorce papers now!”
I was surprised at those words. “I don't know you could be this short sighted, Greg. Everything you became, I have been the one behind it all. Even this job that made you this successful, I granted you access to it.” That irked Greg.
“Stop speaking highly of yourself. We have been married for five years. I know you too well. You are just a pauper, a scumbag and a loser. You can't have any other identity.” “Sign the papers already.”
I took an intense breath. “Are you sure about this? Once I sign this paper, it is over forever.”
“Hmph! I know and that is what I want. Stop wasting my time.” Greg shot a deadly glare at me.
“Okay. I will make your wish come to pass. But know this, you are certainly going to regret it.” I took the divorce papers from him and I signed it.
“The only thing I will regret is getting married to you for five years.” He collected the divorce papers from me.
“Now that you have signed it. Pack everything that passes as your property. I don't want to ever see you again.
