8 - First Day at the New School

2293 Words
It took me a few days to teach everyone that wanted to learn sign language. Silver, the beta of the pack, was one of them. There were more than we thought would attend the class. I was glad to see so many wanting to learn it. All the deaf kids with their parents and grandparents attended my classes. I made sure they learned everything quickly. I was not in the mood to spend too much time on this. Right now, I am standing in front of the school this pack has. We have attended school before but it was not as big as this one. Buildings with a first floor are here too. Melia and I looked at each other with Silver standing next to her with his backpack. I did not know that he is 18 and this will be his last year of attending school. “Ready?” Silver signed to Melia and she nodded. We took our first steps entering the school grounds. We got a lot of glances and a few whispers as we made our way through the crowd after we got our stationary for school. Silver guided us to our class before leaving us to fend for ourselves again. We saw everyone already had chairs and two were open in the front of the class where the interpreter was ready for this day. She greeted us and we responded by signing back. Maybe I should put a barrier up around us just in case these kids start to throw us with small objects. Would they do that to us? Maybe I should wait and see. The teacher came in with a big wooden box in his hands. Oh, a male teacher? I know there are male teachers but I did not think that the werewolves would have one. Maybe because they need a male werewolf. “Good day class,” he started the day and he smiled at the two of us. “Hope you all will welcome our Luna and Beta with open arms and make them feel welcome,” he gestured his arms to us. I decided to let us wave at the class. Some whispered about our beauty and my strange eyes. I can ignore it. “And this lovely lady in front is here to help our Beta to understand what we are all saying,” he explained and the class makes a sound as if they only now understood her presence. “Luna, can you come up here and introduce yourself and our beta, please,” the guy asked and I nodded before getting to my feet. Melia followed me. “Hey, everyone,” I waved at them and Melia did the same. “My name is Vorel and I am classified as a witch,” I signed as I spoke since I know that Melia is watching me. I looked at Melia next and she nodded at me, letting me know she had to introduce herself. “I am Amelia, but my friends call me Melia. I am also classified as a witch. I am deaf and hope to make a lot of friends. Nice to meet you all,” I translated for the class as I watched her. Melia is always so nice. The class suddenly clapped their hands and whistled. “Welcome!” they all said at once and I signed it for Melia. A big smile appeared on her face and I couldn’t help but give a little smile at her for being happy about this. “Thank you, you may take your seats,” the guy gestured with his arm. We took our seats and Melia looked at the interpreter again. “My name is Michael Luca. Everyone here calls me Mister Luca or Teacher. Now, please take an ink pot and four sheets of paper,” he started to walk through the rows and let everyone take what he said they should. “Oh right, before I forget. The Alphas have informed me that our Luna has a gift for us all that will help us with shifting. We will take a break in an hour,” he looked at me as we took our things. “Will you give the gift then?” He is asking so nicely. I nodded at him. “Sure, I can do it then” I assured him and I could feel something inside me. Happiness? But this is not my happiness. Is it the students in the classroom? Do I feel their happiness? How is this possible? I am scared to ask the alphas about this. Who shall I ask? It must be a werewolf. Most of the werewolves in this class are turning 16 this year so we were taught about the first shifting and what happens within the werewolf body and the second soul that awakens. I had to verify something so I put my hand up in the air. “Yes, Luna?” Mr. Luca looked at me with a smile. “I have been told the Alphas share a soul. So, is it the second soul they are sharing?” I had to know how that works. Mr. Luca smiled at me. “That is a very good question, Luna. The Alphas are a special case. Their wolf has been present since they were born. At 16 he materialized but did not need to wake up as everyone else did,” Mr. Luca explained and I nodded at this. So, they are unique in every way. The first time I saw them I thought they were unique. We finally reached the break they were all waiting patiently for. Mr. Luca gave me the room and I went to the front. I must add, I am not angry at the pack. They are only following orders. “The Alphas made a deal with me. So here is my end of that deal,” I got everyone’s attention. “Our new Gamma and I have been working hard on these to make sure we have enough for everyone. It will help when you shift. It will not take the pain away but the longevity of your clothes will be guaranteed,” I made some of them laugh. The ones that have already shifted. “Here is yours, Mr. Luca,” I took a bracelet out of my inventory spell and he looked at the silver bracelet. “Don’t worry. It is stainless steel. It is just as strong as silver and gold, maybe even stronger. It will not burn you or make you weaker. The crystal hanging in the necklace is enchanted to store your clothes when you shift and let them appear on your body when you are human again,” I gave a short explanation. He took it and put it on. He gasped the moment it rested around his neck. “What you are feeling is the crystal making a connection between your core energy and itself. This way it will know when to activate to store your clothes,” I explained and he couldn’t help but look amazed at me. I started to move through the class giving each one the bracelet. I saw that the 15-year-old wolves also felt the connection form. “This class’s 15-year-old wolves will be the first ones to feel what the bracelet does while shifting for the first time. I am sure it will work fine but we just want to make sure of it,” I added and gave the last girl her necklace. We are still waiting for more crystals from the team that was sent to a cave nearby. The girls have very fine chains for their necklaces, while the guys have big chunkey gains that look like they were flattened. The chains of both necklaces are hugging the crystals. It helps to make the enchantment flow effectively. “And it works?” Mr. Luca asked, curious about it. “Yes, it was already tested by the Alphas,” I assured him and heard the class being impressed by this. I felt Melia tap on my shoulder and I looked at her. “Why don’t we let them test it outside?” she asked and I heard the interpreter voicing for her. “That is a great idea. Let’s all go outside and test these,” Mr. Luca made the decision and we all moved outside. We watched as all those that can shift, tested the enchantment. The ones that will shift this year can’t wait to try it for themselves either. I felt eyes on myself and looked in that direction. It was the Alphas. They are standing at the treeline of the forest. Just looking. They are standing far away but since they are always together, I knew the two of them were the Alphas. Silver came up with the idea that I should give these to the class I will be in and he used Melia to convince me to do this. Building trust with the pack even if I don’t trust the Alphas. I am going to ignore them. Everyone is laughing and I can feel happiness again. Urg, this feels strange. “Hey, what is your name?” I looked at the interpreter and she looked at me. She has long fluffy light brown hair and brown eyes. She looks cheerful and beautiful. Well, everyone is beautiful to me. “Oh, sorry for not introducing myself. I am Nicole Cole, Luna,” she gave a light bow. “Just call me Vorel, or Flo, as Melia does,” I smiled at her. “Since you are a werewolf, I was wondering if you could help me understand something,” I get right to the point of me talking to her. “Sure, what do you need me to do?” She looked very happy about this. Strange girl. “I am feeling something I never felt before. Like what I am feeling is not mine. At the moment I am feeling happiness, but it is not me who is feeling this way,” I had to ask about this. It is going to bother me for a while. “Oh, I can only tell you what I have heard. Luna has a unique ability when she becomes mated to the alpha. They can feel what the pack is feeling. She is emotionally connected to the pack and it gets stronger with time. That is what I heard and was told growing up,” she smiled at me. This made me frown a bit. “I see, thank you for sharing,” I looked at the students again who were laughing and shifting to test it as much as they could. We attracted the attention of another class. By the way, they are dressed in robes, you could see that they are witches. I see the teacher walking over to us while his class is still looking at what is happening. “Good day Michael. I see you are practicing shifting. How did you get them to keep their clothes on?” he looked with curious eyes at the students. “Aah, Enchantment teacher. Galen. How are you this fine morning? Our Luna graced our class with these,” Mr. Luca drew this teacher’s attention to the necklace hanging around his neck. “She enchanted it herself? This material! Is it silver?” The new teacher asked, even more, curious about this. “No, stainless steel. A type of steel,” Mr. Luca bragged. He almost seems proud of something. I can feel the pride he has. For what, I don’t know. “Amazing, she must be a very strong witch,” the new teacher sounds fascinated by this. Urg, that word. We are not witches. We are magic users. There is a difference. We are connected to magic in a way that they will never understand. We are born in magic, shielded by magic. We are part of the magic. We are one with magic. I don’t know our full story yet. This was the year we would have learned about our connection. Wonder if Greg knows this. I should ask him about it when I see him again. Hope I remember. “Did you meet our Luna yet?” He asked, wanting to touch the charm again. “The enchantment uses your energy. How did she make this happen?” He has even more questions. “How else will an enchantment work? It needs something to work and connecting it with its core is the best way to know it works efficiently,” I can not take this guy anymore. They know nothing. “Excuse me?” He looked at me, bewildered at what I just told him. “If we make the enchantment only work from our mana, it will last long. Using their core will ensure that it works every time since their core is also connected to their energy, emotions, and thoughts. It was the logical thing to do for this enchantment,” I can not help but make him feel stupid. This is logical stuff, how can they not know this? “You are our Luna?” His eyes went big from the realization of who I am. “Amazing, so young and yet so wise. Who taught you to enchant like this?” He stepped closer to me. I backed away from him. “Personal space, please. It was Greg, our new Gamma,” I replied and his eyes went big yet again. “I should ask for his guidance. This is a discovery,” he walked away again, getting his students in his classroom. That was weird. Are all witches this weird?
