Chapter Fifty Two

1033 Words
Elara's POV After dinner, the house was peaceful. Mum and dad had gone upstairs and Lorien was up in his room too. The only light that flickered was from the TV screen. I rested on the couch, trying to relax my mind a little before heading upstairs as well. But then. A sound echoed. Shuffling alongside a thud noise. The first thing that crossed my mind was Jordan and his family. Were the hunters attacking again? My heart skipped as my hands reached for the TV remote. I paused the show and adjusted my posture on the couch. The sound echoed yet again, louder this time and closer to the house. Rising to my feet, I caught a scent. It was Jordan's. Without wasting another second, I tiptoed out, through the front door, following the familiar scent. My eyes widened in shock at the sight in front of me. Jordan and Adrian were fighting, in the darkness with the faint street lamp as a source of light. Their fists collided with each other's face and growls escaped from their clenched teeth. It was scary because the way they looked and moved, it was less humane and more animalistic, like wolves. "Stop!" I managed to scream, rushing towards them. They both froze, panting hard while gazing at each other with fury. Jordan ran close to me to protect me, his arms spread wide as he yelled. "Get behind me Elara." "I do not want to hurt you Elara, just let me have him." Adrian yelled through gritted teeth. "Why?" A small cry escaped from my lips. Jordan had already been through so much, the last thing he needed was severe beating. "He brought them here! The hunters! He is the reason why my kind is under threat!" Adrian snapped at me. Jordan clenched his jaw tight but remained quiet giving Adrian the stage to continue. "He wants to take my place as Alpha in this town!" Adrian beat his chest aggressively. I blinked, my brows furrowed in confusion. "Alpha? What do you mean by that?" I was still trying to understand the whole supernatural thing and Adrian kept introducing new terms like "Alpha." "Ask him." Adrian pointed at Jordan, his voice slowly dropped. "This is not over. Next time, I am not holding back. I will kill you and your family too." His eyes glinted with promise and his tone was cold. Adrian vanished into the night and my gaze immediately shifted to Jordan, my heart still racing from the fight I had just witnessed. "Jordan, are you okay?" My voice was low, barely above a whisper. Jordan wiped a bit of blood from his mouth and nodded his head gently. "I am fine." He said but his face said otherwise. "You should head back inside before your parents notice your disappearance." "You should go inside too and be careful. Adrian looked pretty serious." I mumbled and Jordan shrugged in response. "I am not afraid of him at all." "By the way, I think Gabriel Cross is behind all of this." He raised a brow at me in surprise. "Why would you think that?" I leaned in closer, lowering my voice so no one would hear my next words. "I overheard him on a call and he said something about making sure the mess they made was cleaned up. It sounded like he was talking about the attack at your house." Jordan rubbed the back of his neck. "Are you sure?" I nodded. "Yes, I know what I heard. I should have recorded it but it skipped my mind." He looked away for a second, deep in thoughts then he sighed. "We can talk about it tomorrow. For now, just get some rest Elara, go inside before your parents notice your absence." "Okay." I hesitated. Jordan flashed me a soft smile, tired but enough to melt my heart. I slowly made my way towards the front door but turning once more before stepping in and he was still watching, making sure I got into the house safely. That same night, I slept feeling at ease because a part of me knew Jordan would not let anyone hurt me. The next morning, mum insisted on driving me to school herself, no arguments and no room for negotiations. "I just want to make sure you actually get to school safely." She said. After everything that had happened, I could not exactly blame her. While Dad drove Lorien to school, I let mum drive me to school. The drive was silent. Her hands gripped the steering wheel tighter than normal and she seemed to be lost in her thoughts, like she had something on her mind. When we finally pulled into the school's parking lot, I reached for the door handle and bid her goodbye but surprisingly she got off the car as well. "Mum, what are you doing?" I blinked. "I just remembered that I need to speak to Gabriel about something, just do not mind me and head to class." "How can I not mind you mum? You are literally going to embarrass me by strolling down the hallways with me around you." I whisper-yelled at her. "Then you go in first." I remembered about my laptop so I said. "Well, your friend has my laptop so I need to get it from him anyways." We walked through the hallways and I could feel eyes darting at our directions. As expected, some students made mocking remarks about mum escorting me to school but I could not care that much as I thought I would. When we got to his office, Gabriel attempted to shut the door close when a shadow walked past the door. I turned at the familiarity of the scent. It was Adrian. I casted one final glance at the hallway where Adrian had disappeared but what scared me was not Adrian, it was Gabriel. The way he stared at the direction Adrian had gone. There was something in his eyes. A look. A silent threat. Like he was coming for Adrian next. It made me realize something, Gabriel was not just after Jordan. He was after Adrian too. The question was why?
