Chapter Forty Seven
Elara's POV
The moment we stepped foot into my grandpa's rusty apartment, Jordan's mother bolted towards her son like lightening. She crossed over the police tape, her face pale as her eyes roamed every inch of her son. "Jordan!" She gasped, she reached for him and laid him down on the floor gently. "What happened? Oh my goodness, you are bleeding!"
"I am fine." Jordan mumbled, trying to reassure his mum with the little strength left in him. "It was just a car, nothing serious. My body is already working on healing."
Still, she was not convinced. She hovered over him, pulling him into her arms. "What car? What happened out there?" Her tone was shaky and she had evident sleeping bags. I could not help but feel worried about all of them.
Jordan was injured, his mum looked overly exhausted, his youngest brother was in the arms of Corvin, they seemed frightened and tired too.
A loud wince escaped from Jordan's lips, startling me. He pointed at Ethan. "It was his car but it was not intentional. He did not see me. Something else was out there, though. Something is probably still out there."
"What something? You guys are freaking us out." Maya's voice trembled.
I turned to Jordan, equally confused. My eyes diverted to his family again.
Really, why were they here? Of all places, it had to be my grandfather's house?
"What is going on?" My thoughts formed into words.
Jordan must have noticed the tension laced in my voice because he looked at me and said. "Can we talk privately?"
My eyes roamed his body, the way he struggled to sit up showed that he still needed time to heal.
"You should focus on healing first." I responded, my tone soft and calm. "We can talk later."
His mum suddenly rose to her feet and the look on her face was clear that she was not moved by my kind words or gesture.
"This is all your mother's fault." She hissed, shooting dagger glares at me. "Your mother wrongly accused my son, he could have gone to prison or worse could have happened. You have no idea what type of mess you are dragging him into!"
My heart raced as she raised her voice at me. "My mum's, she was going to drop the charges---"
"I do not care what she planned to do!" She snapped, cutting me midway my sentence. "You can not just undo something because you changed your mind."
"Mum!" Jordan interrupted, his voice was firm. "Let it go, it is fine and I am here. Plus, should we not be concerned about other things?"
His mum went quiet and so did i.
To be honest, I felt guilt wash over me and none of us spoke after that, the tension lingered in the atmosphere.
My friends and I sat near the door, the police tape separating us from Jordan and his family, they remained at the far edge of the room.
The silence between us was suffocating and loud.
Maya adjusted her posture for the umpteenth time, she leaned close to me and whispered. "My goodness, this place reeks of dust and old shit." Her nose wrinkled. "What are we even doing here?"
At least the place did not reek of Ginger's blood. Thankfully, the dead body of Ginger had been moved away since investigation began.
Ethan leaned his back against the wall. "I still do not know what we are hiding from. Also, just saying but should Jordan not be in the hospital?"
My friends looked at me, expecting answers I did not have. I had questions of my own, swirling in my head. I could barely comprehend any of this, everything was just happening fast and I was forced to accept things that way.
I remained quiet, letting Maya and Ethan wallow in the same curiosity I was basking in but she did not stop there, Maya continued to rant.
"This feels like a movie. I am so creeped out that I will never return to the woods ever again."
Time passed. Jordan walked towards us, the way he walked, it was back to normal, almost like he had not even been hit by a car at all.
His skin looked flawless get again and though the blood already stuck to his clothes, the wound itself had disappeared.
It was like magic.
Maya's eyes widened. "How.....you were literally crawling some minutes ago." She stuttered.
Ethan nodded his head, his brows furrowed. "That is not normal at all. Did you just magically get better?"
"My mum is a medical practitioner, she patched me up. The wound was never that deep." Jordan replied in a dry tone.
Maya fell for it of course, she nodded in relief but Ethan did not, neither did I.
This had something to do with his supernatural powers.
Ethan's eyes pierced through Jordan with a look of suspicion.
Jordan ignored the gaze, he walked up to me, lowering his voice. "I am sorry again." He paused to point at his family. "For scaring you back there and for my mum's behavior."
I nodded. "It is fine." My voice remained calm. "But something had to have happened to make you guys here, what was it?"
Jordan averted his gaze to his family, then back at me. "Hunters." He said. "They came armed last night. Attacked the house, gunshots, they shattered the windows. We barely escaped."
These hunters, who were they and why were they hunting Jordan's kind?
"Wait, I passed your house on my way to school this morning. Everything looked fine, no sign of any attack, everything was still intact."
Jordan blinked. "What?"
I nodded in agreement. "I am serious, no broken glass, no mess, just a cop car outside waiting to check in on you."
Jordan stared at me in confusion.
Then his eyes narrowed.
"They must have cleaned it up." He said slowly in realization.
I was still lost. "Who?"
Jordan's next words sent chills down my spine.
"Someone planned this. Someone close."
