Elara's POV
When Jordan mentioned "Someone planned this...someone close."
A chill ran down my spine and my thoughts instantly drifted to my mother.
She never hid her dislike for Jordan and even though she had promised to drop the charges, It was still hard for me to trust her again. After everything that had happened between us for a while now, the secrets, the lies, all of it.
I shook off the thought. She would not go as far as almost harming his family.
Another face flashed in my mind, Gabriel Cross. The way he wanted to know everything about Jordan, his questions and tone made him a suspect too, plus he never liked Jordan either.
Neither did Adrian too.
Jordan had more enemies than I had even realized so it was hard to uncover the person behind the attack at his place last night.
I turned to ask him. "Do you think Adrian---" before I could finish my sentence, the sharp wail of police sirens echoed through the air.
Tires screeched outside accompanied by heavy footsteps.
Jordan adjusted his posture, a frightened look flashed across his face. "The cops are here."
"Thank God!" Ethan's voice echoed in relief.
Jordan's gaze shifted to Ethan, his eyes narrowed. "You called them?"
Ethan shrugged. "I had to. You are injured, we are hiding in a crime scene and you said we might be in trouble. Was I supposed to just sit around and wait for your orders?"
Jordan took a step forward, anger flashed in his eyes. "Do you even realize what you have just done?" He spoke through gritted teeth.
The front door slammed open, and voices rang out.
"Police department here! Hands where we can see them!"
Flashlights shone through the shadows of the house, guns pointed in our direction causing tension to rise in the atmosphere.
Uncle Fred was in front. He looked at me, then at Jordan and his eyes finally settled on Maya.
"Everybody out now! Hands visible in the air." He barked orders, his voice sharp.
The other officers shuffled us out one by one, my heart racing extremely fast.
They lined us up like criminals until we were out of the house.
Uncle Fred divided us. I, Maya and Ethan were ushered into the passenger's seat of his squad car while Jordan and his family were led into another vehicle.
Some officers remained behind to monitor my grandfather's place. I hated how the place suddenly felt like evidence and no longer like memories.
As soon as uncle Fred started the car, my gaze averted to Ethan. "Why did you call them?" I raised my voice at him.
He scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Elara, we were hiding in your missing grandfather's house. Jordan was bleeding! We were in trouble! Was I supposed to just sit back there?"
"You were supposed to listen!" I snapped at him. "Jordan told you not to. I told you not to!"
Ethan folded his arms and clenched his jaw tight. "Well, Jordan does not get to bark orders. I did the right thing or else we would still be stuck in there by now."
Of course, Ethan thought he was right, there was really no point arguing.
It was Maya's turn to speak, her voice broke the tension. "Uncle Fred...are you taking us home?"
He shook his head without sparing us a single glance. "We are going to the station. You all need to give statements."
Maya's eyes widened in fear. "Are we going to get arrested?"
"This conversation will continue at the station." Uncle Fred pointed out.
It was obvious he was mad at her and I felt bad for her because it was technically all my fault, I should have never dragged her into the woods in the first place.
"Relax Maya, the only thing we did was trespass, we will be fine." Squeezing her arm gently, that was enough reassurance for Maya.
My stomach was tied in knots as realization hit me that this was not just about Jordan now.
My friends were involved in it too.
We finally pulled into the station's parking lot, my heart raced even faster when I spotted my mum's car parked in the front.
Great, I was in serious trouble.
Uncle Fred stepped out first then opened the door for us. "Inside. Now."
Ethan and Maya were about to step out as well but my next words caused them to stop in their movements. "Uncle Fred, please. Can I talk to them for one minute? I just need to speak to my friends urgent before we leave the car."
"You had all the time in the car to talk to them Elara." Uncle Fred said.
I flashed him pleading eyes. "Please. I probably won't be able to speak to them after this because of my mum."
He looked hesitant at first but after a sigh escaped from his lips. He nodded. "One minute, that is all you get." Then, he walked away from our sight.
Still inside the car, i turned hastily to Maya and Ethan. "Listen to me guys, if we all say different things in our statements then we are screwed. I need to make sure we write the same thing."
Maya nodded quickly. "Okay, what do we say?"
I raised a brow at Ethan, expecting him to argue but to my surprise, he just rolled his eyes and muttered. "Fine, whatever."
After our rushed agreement, the three of us stepped out of the car and began to walk towards the entrance of the station.
As we got closer to the door, a sudden shuffling noise caught my attention. It was coming from the direction of my mum's car.
I halted.
"Hey, I'll catch up." I whispered to Maya and Ethan.
Maya started protesting but it was too late because my legs were already making it towards the vehicle.
Peeking through the car window, the shape of someone in the passenger's seat was evident and just as I leaned closer to see through the glass, it was Gabriel Cross.
He was on a call, he looked agitated but thankfully his full attention was on his phone.
"I hope there are no traces of the attack. Everything has to look the same."
I stumbled back in shock, a gasp slipping from my lips.
There was only one attack I could think of.
The attack at Jordan's house last night.
Gabriel Cross....planned it?
