Jordan's POV Kill or be killed. The elders words echoed in my mind like blades pressing into my chest. The meeting was over, I was leaning on mum's car when Adrian brushed past me on his way out. A mischievous smirk crawled on his lips, the kind that said he was up to no good at all. Well, to be honest, was he ever up to any good? He leaned in, his voice cold and venomous. "You better watch your back because I am not waking away from Blackwater hills. This territory is mine." He spoke through gritted teeth. His boys chuckled from behind, entertaining his shenanigan. I on the other hand, I did not flinch, neither did I say a word but I badly wanted to wipe that dirty grin off his face. "Enjoy your stay in Blackwater falls while it lasts..." He trailed off. Adrian turned around and it looked like he wanted to walk away but he halted in his steps and said some last words. "Do not worry about Elara, I will take good care of her in your absence." His words made me growl, one that simmered beneath my skin. I clutched my fist tight and attempted to swing it in Adrian's smug face but mum's loud voice startled me. "Stop!" She walked towards me and snatched me by the wrist. "Get in the car, now!" She ordered. Her face was red with anger and the last thing I wanted to do was cause a scene in front of the elders. I casted one last death glare at Adrian before slipping into the back seat of the car. "That is right loser boy! Piss off!" I heard Adrian yell right before mum started the car engine. The drive back home was silent. Mum kept her hands on the wheel firmly, her jaw was tight and she had a sharp gaze fixated on the road. The tension between us was thicker than fog. She pulled the car into the driveway and without giving me a heads up or a word, she stepped out of the car, moving towards the house with full adrenaline, it was like she had the weight of the world on her shoulders. I trailed her behind, was she ignoring me? When she reached the hallway, I stopped and yelled. "Are we not going to talk about this? What are we going to do?" My voice broke the silence. She halted in her steps but she did not turn. Her back was turned against me as she placed her hands on her waist. "There is nothing we can do Jordan, not unless we are willing to spill blood." I took a few steps forward. "You heard what they said. It is either him or us and we can not just keep pretending this will all go away. We need to act fast." I spoke confidently. My mother scoffed, turning slowly. "Are you asking we wage a war against Adrian's pack? You want us to fight them because of a territory?" Why did she make it sound impossible? "Yes. We can do it. We have come too far to let go now." I said, slowly emphasizing my words. Mum's eyes turned sharp with something more than frustration, more like fear. "Is this even about the territory or about the girl?" I knew she was somehow going to make this all about Elara, maybe it was after all. "I thought as much. I know you have you been seeing her and i know Adrian knows she is your mate." Her words hung there, I did not deny it. I could not deny it. "Jordan, do you not see that this girl turning you into something else. You make decisions without considering the consequences. Take today for example, you could have fought at the meeting, in front of the elders just because of her! Do you even under what kind of penalties you could have faced if the elders saw you?" I released a heavy sigh and rubbed my head in utter frustration "I tried to stay away I swear." I admitted. "I really did try to stay away but I could not. You how mate bonds work. Something about her keeps pulling me back but I can protect her, I can. " Now I was trying so hard to reassure my mum, I just needed her approval on this. Her lips thinned. "You want to protect her? Then we leave. The only way to protect her and us is if we leave. Things could get worse, Adrian is bound to use her to strike you down. We can still leave." Mum urged with pleading eyes. "You want us to run?" I scoffed in disbelief. Mum's face became blank. "I want us to save ourselves while we can." "No." I said firmly. "i am not running like a coward. This is our home and I am not letting anyone go near any of my loved ones." I stood still. As expected mum's face fell in defeat. "You do not love her Jordan, your emotions are out of place." It seemed like she was trying to convince me, perhaps brainwash me into thinking that my feelings for Elara were only triggered by the mate bond but I knew it was more than that. "Think about this Jordan, you will be putting all of us in danger." Was she guilt tripping me now? "I would rather fight than live with the guilt of doing nothing while he rips apart every single thing that matters to us." Mum and I stared at each other, the atmosphere was tense. I could feel the air crackling with a mixture of anger and fear. Then a sudden distant but sharp sound of sirens echoed. I rushed towards the window, a police car was pulling into Elara’s driveway. I had the feeling something had gone wrong, Without thinking, I lunged for the door. Please be okay. Please Elara
