Chapter Fifty Six

1047 Words
Jordan's POV The cold air after swim practice hit different, sharper and deeper. Corvin walked by my side, shaking water from his hair as we stepped out into the almost empty parking lot of the school. "Watch it." I snapped at him. "You are spilling water over me." Corvin rolled his eyes, clutching the towel wrapped around his neck tight. "What is the plan now?" He asked, nudging me. "The thought of spending another night at that house is scary Jordan." The fear on Corvin's face was evident and i knew he was making reference to the attack from the hunters two nights ago. To be honest, I understood the fear he was feeling, maybe it was because I could feel it too. "I will keep watch again." I shrugged slightly. "You know you can not keep doing that forever Jordan. How long are you going to continue to deprive yourself of sleeping?" Corvin raised a brow at me. I shot him a sharp gaze. "Do you have a better idea?" Realization hit me that my words might have been a bit too harsh and that Corvin was only speaking out of pure concern for me so an apology slipped from my mouth. "Sorry, that was too harsh." Freezing in my steps, my hands reached for Corvin's shoulder and i squeezed it firmly. "We are going to be okay, I promise." Corvin sighed. "Why do you sound so confident?" "Because I am going to always be around to protect you guys." "Now that sounds cringe." He chuckled. Just as Corvin and I were about to step out of the school gate, a masculine voice bluntly and loudly called out my name from behind us. I averted my gaze to the direction of the voice. It was that guy. Elara's friend. This one I never got along well with, maybe it was because I could tell he was crushing on Elara and it was disturbing. His name was something that never stuck to my head, probably on purpose. Corvin leaned closer. "Hey, who is that?" "Elara's friend." I replied tightly while trying to pinpoint what Elara's friend wanted with me, it somewhat made me feel uneasy. "Making friends with her friends now? What stage of the relationship is this?" Corvin smirked. "Shut up." A small growl escaped from my lips and thankfully that was enough to silence him. The guy stopped right in front of us, his arms crossed and brows furrowed at me in confusion. "What are you still doing here?" He snapped at me. "Excuse me?" I raised a brow. What sort of audacious question was that? "You heard me right the first time." He spoke in a nonchalant tone. "Incase you have forgotten. We school here." It was Corvin who spoke this time. He attempted to take a step forward but I shoved his chest backward. "Stay out of this." I mumbled to my brother and turned to Elara's friend. "What are you talking about?" I asked. "Did you ditch her?" "Ditch who?" I spoke too soon. "Elara of course. Why are you so slow?" He sneered. "I did not ditch her plus you are going to need to be a bit more specific on what you are talking about." His gaze shifted to Corvin like he did not trust him enough to spill anything regarding to Elara. I had to clear the air. "He is my brother." I said. "You can talk." Still hesitant, he finally said. "I am talking about Elara and her dumb plan to trail Gabriel Cross." My heart slowly raced faster than normal as my response slipped out of my mouth. "She is not." It sounded more like I was trying to convince myself more than him. "She is probably at home. I told her I could not go with her." "So you ditched her then?" Elara's friend blurted out. Running a hand through my hair in frustration, I shot dagger glares at him. "I clearly made her understand that I needed to protect my family first so I could not tag along in her weird plan." I argued. "Pretty much still sounds like you ditched her to me." If this dude's aim was to taunt me, then it was totally working. "He is technically refusing to her dumb plan because he has more important things to do like protect his family. Ditching is a strong word." Corvin added. Thankfully Corvin's words made him drop the stupid argument. Instead he narrowed his eyes. "Well that is weird because Elara told me something completely different." I felt shivers run down my spine. "What did she tell you?" "She said she was going with you, that you had agreed to accompany her, that was after school had just closed." I clenched my fist tight, my heartbeat quickened. Something was not right. "i need to find Elara. Now." The moment her friend said those words, panic bloomed in my chest and my mind began to imagine the worse. Corvin stepped in front of me. "What about me? What about us Jordan?" His voice was stern and he locked gaze with me. "You promised, you said you would protect us." "And i will." I cut in. "How are you supposed to do that while you are away? What if the hunters return while you are off chasing--" "Hunters?" This time it was Elara's friend who cut Corvin midway his sentence. "What hunters are you talking about?" His gaze darted between us in confusion. I ignored him, turning to my brother with pleading eyes. "Corvin, I promise this will not take long. I just have to make sure she is okay." Corvin clenched his jaw tight. "And what if something happens while you are gone?" He snapped. "You think mum can handle it all by herself?" "Corvin, relax. She is not alone, she has you." "No." My brother raised his voice at me. "You made a promise, Jordan and you failed to keep it." Just like that, Corvin stormed off, out of the school. I yelled his name severally but he turned a deaf ear. Silence settled between me and Elara's friend. "How do you plan on finding Elara?" He finally asked. My eyes narrowed and my senses sharpened. "The same way she found me."
