Have you ever wondered why your parents gave you a name that stood out of the family name? Well, I couldn’t really tell you, because all of my family names have the name Alex in it and I don’t really understand why I don’t.
“Mom, Dad? Why is my first name so different from all of you? Why didn’t y’all name me Alexis or something with the name Alex in it?” I asked since there was only silence at the table.
My parents looked at me and then back at each other.
“It’s time for her to know the truth, Honey.” my dad said, not looking at me.
My mom looked at me with sad eyes, and I knew it was something very serious, but I didn’t know that it would change my life and my viewpoint of my whole family.
“Eval… Honey… The truth is… Your… Adopted… I’m sorry, honey. I’m sorry, that we didn’t tell you on your sixteenth birthday, but we didn’t want to ruin your special day for you.”
I stopped eating, pushed my chair back so hard that it knocked over with a loud thud. I ran out of the house with tears flowing down my face. I didn’t care where I was going, the only thing I knew was that I was going into the woods, behind our house.
I was about twenty miles away from my house when I stopped running. I sat down, and laid back, and started thinking over my entire life. How much of my life is a lie? I can’t believe my parents, I couldn’t believe I acted the way I did. Do you think I overdramatized it or what? But I had every reason to act the way I did. How could they have kept that from me, for sixteen years of my life?
“Hey, there.” a voice said, coming from in front of me.
“Wh-wh-who are you?” I stuttered, not knowing whether to be afraid or alert. I could smell him as if he was right next to me. I wasn’t thinking much at the time that he was a wolf.
“My name is Jace. Or at least that’s what my friends call me. Who are you? And why are you trespassing on our territory? Your kind isn’t welcomed here, and you know that.”
What did he mean by our territory? And why do I have a sudden urge to be next to him for the rest of my life? All of a sudden I saw a little silver cord starting to form between us. I looked into his eyes, and I know he sensed it too. He slowly took a few steps toward me, closing the distance between us. I looked up into his eyes as he stared down at me, well my lips anyways. He leaned down to kiss me
Without a warning, he said, “I got to go, but you must leave now. Or something bad will happen to you. Go on. Get out of our woods, before the elders sense you.” looking around nervously, he took off at a light jog in the opposite direction.
