Chapter One
My eyes snapped open at the sound of my alarm. Today was my 18th birthday and also the last day of high school. This day couldn't have come soon enough! Not because it was my birthday, but because I never truly seem to fit in with my fellow class mates.
A little bit about myself: I'm 5ft 8in, thin, full lips, dark chocolate brown hair, piercing blue/teal eyes and very athletic. I'm considerably faster and stronger than all the others kids at my school. The jocks were intimidated by me and the popular kids always called me a freak. My parents meet when they were sixteen and got married at 18. They are inseparable and have the strongest relationship I've ever seen. I mean devoted! They are both very athletic but they tend to lay low.
We moved around a lot when I was younger, but we moved back to the town they grew up in. They said I might like it there more, get bullied a little bit less and fit in a bit more. But they were wrong, the bullying is worse here and the students judge me harder. I don't get it! I never did anything to them!
*knock knock*
"Hannah? Are you awake?" My mother asks, poking her head into my room.
"Yeah, sorry I was just getting up," I said, sitting up to look at her.
BANG
My father barges in making me jump ten feet in the air.
"There's my birthday girl! Your mother and I were talking and we decided that since it's you 18th birthday AND your last day of highschool, that we would let you skip the day and take you out to the mountains!" He beamed.
My heart soared. I loved the mountains- the fresh air, the sound of running water, the smell and just nature. I love all of it. I jumped out of bed immediately hugging him.
"Thank you thank you thank you! When are we leaving??"
My mother laughed, "As soon as you go and eat your breakfast. We made you a classic English breakfast"
My mouth started to salivate and I ran down to start chowing down. Once my stomach was full and we were ready to leave, we started the two hour drive towards our favourite mountain to hike. Once we were about halfway through, my mother started acting a little odd, then my father started acting strange as well. We kept hiking in silence, taking in the sights, sounds and smells. I always found hiking to be so freeing and peaceful - nothing can take me down here. After 5 hours of hiking we finally reached our destination- A clearing with a magnificent waterfall and swimming hole. The hike wasn't easy but the view was always just as breathtaking. After an hour of swimming and cooling off, my mom gave us some sandwiches and we sat down to enjoy the scene.
"Shouldn't we start heading back? It's a long hike back and we don't want to get stuck in the dark." I said.
My parents looked at each other then quickly looked away.
"Actually, we will be staying here until nightfall," my mother said, not quite making eye contact.
"What? Why? Won't it be too dangerous to go back??"
"Not for us, peanut," my dad said with a small smile, "your mother and I should have had this talk with you a long time ago, but now we can't put it off anymore."
My heart started to race, what was going on?
"You're scaring me," I whispered, "what's going on?"
"Honey, you're a werewolf. We're werewolves," my mother said.
"Wait, what?"
Then my vision went black.
