Chapter 1
Ella stood in front of her mirror, it was the first day of her last year of highschool. She was wearing her favorite pair of ripped skinny jeans and a tight-fitted blue top that showed off her curves Ella stood in front of her mirror, it was the first day of her last year of high school. She was wearing her favorite pair of ripped skinny jeans and a tight-fitted blue top that showed off her curves. There was a honk from the driveway, Damian, her boyfriend of almost four years was picking her up. She grabbed her backpack and raced down the stairs. “Bye mom!” She called out and raced out the door to Damian’s waiting car. "There you are baby, I was beginning to think you were still asleep.” He chuckled. “No silly, I was getting ready.” Damian laughed and pulled out of the driveway. Five minutes later they were pulling into the parking lot. “I wonder if Ethan will be his usual goth self this year.” Ella commented as Damian parked the car. This made him groan in frustration. “Oh come on babe, he’s not that bad.” This made Damian scoff. “Are you kidding me? He’s always hitting on you, remember?” Ella sighed. “I guess you’re right but remember he’s probably really hurting inside.” “And this is why I love you. You’re so understanding.” He leaned over and gave her a quick kiss on the forehead. “Ugh I don’t want to go in, I want to stay in the car and be with you.” She groaned. “I know baby, come on.” Ella sighed and got out of the car, immediately they were surrounded by other students. They were the ‘Senior Power Couple’. Everyone wanted to be like them. Damian just smirked and guided Ella through the crowd until they reached their group of friends. “Haven’t seen you all summer bro.” Zach, the tall, tight end of the football team said as he clapped Damian on the back. “Yeah D. What’s going on?” Tyler, one of the best wide receivers asked. “I’ve been working, ya know saving up for college.” He pulled Ella into his side. After a few minutes of chatting about the summer they headed inside. The principal, Mr. Simmons greeted them with a warm smile. “Last first day huh? I’m proud of you guys, you’re a good group of kids.” “Thanks Mr. Simmons.” The warning bell rang and they dispersed to their classes. Ella sat through her morning classes bored out of her mind and barely paying attention. Most of it was just going over syllabuses and classroom introductions. Finally the lunch bell rang. On the way to the cafeteria she bumped into Ethan. “Oh I’m so sorry I didn’t see you there.” She apologized. It’s fine.” Ethan looked up glaring, His goth makeup tear streaked and messy. He quickly gathered his things, pulled his hood over his head and rushed down the hall to his locker. When Ella made it to the cafeteria she grabbed her lunch tray and rushed over to Damian. “Hey baby, what took you so long?” “I accidentally bumped into Ethan. He looked like he’d been crying. his makeup was all streaked and runny.” “So? At least he wasn’t trying to steal my girl.” Really Damian? We talked about this. Be nice to him. And be nice about what you say about him.” With that she grabbed her tray and went to a corner to eat by herself. Damian sat there shocked. She had never stormed off to eat by herself before. He wanted to go after her but Zach held him back. “She needs space man.” Damian sighed and pushed away his tray because he found that he had lost his appetite. “Come on man, you gotta eat. What are we gonna do in practice if our QB doesn’t have all his strength?” “I don’t know, but I’m not feeling the best anyway. I think I’m gonna go home.” “Ok, well you’re about to really not feel good.” “Why is that Zach?” He asked, his jaw tight. “Cause goth boy just sat next to your girl.” “What.” He snapped and looked over to where Ella was sitting, and sure enough Ethan was sitting next to her. His blood boiled, then an evil idea popped into his head. “Tyler, you’re gay right?” “Uh yeah why?” Tyler replied nervously. “And goth boy is Bi right?” “Yeah, wait are you implying that I date the guy I rejected this morning?” A cruel smile played on Damian’s lips. “Not date, but fake date.” “Dude, there’s not way in Hell-” Damian cut him off. “a hundred bucks says you’ll do it.” Tyler’s eyes widened. “Alright fine, I'll do it.” After lunch Ella was feeling much better and went back to her classes without even saying a word to Damian, not even a text. She was still upset with how he had acted about Ethan so Ethan had offered to give her a ride home. Which she had immediately accepted. Under all his dark clothes, piercings and make-up he was one of the nicest guys she knew. The last three classes were the same as the first four. Syllabus’s and introductions, which had Ella completely bored. All she wanted to do was go home and sleep, or go for a run, which tended to be her usual go to. When the final bell rang she followed Ethan to his brand new black Benz, “Wow, I didn’t know you drove this.” She said as they got in the car, it was surprisingly clean and smelled almost new, with a hint of coconut. “I may not look like a clean freak but I am.” He said as he pulled out of the parking lot. The whole way there was filled with a comfortable silence. Once inside Ella trudged up the stairs and flopped on her bed with a loud sigh. Her phone was blowing up with notifications from Damian and the rest of their friend group. She flipped her phone on do not disturb and soon decided she needed to go for a run to clear her head. As she got ready for her run she decided that it would be her mission to be the nicest person she could be to Ethan even if Damian threw a fit about it, which he likely would. Ella glanced at her phone, five missed calls and twenty text messages. With a loud sigh she she put her Air Pods in and turned on her music, then slipped her phone into the pocket of her leggings. After spending about twenty minutes stretching she headed out for her run. After all if she wanted to stay track captain in the spring she needed to keep up with her running. About halfway through her run she stepped onto an uneven slab of sidewalk and collapsed. Clutching her ankle and trying not to scream due to the neighborood she realized she was in she pulled out her phone. Five o'clock, "Damian should be out of practice soon. I'll see if he can come get me." She said to herself and typed out a quick message. 'Hey babe, can you come pick me up? I hurt my ankle on my run, I'm on Walnut Street, Please hurry.' She waited, no response. Five-thirty came around and nothing, six o'clock, still no response, by this time her ankle had swollen badly and was stiff and throbbing. Finally around six fourty five Damian's bright red Camaro puulled up beside the sidewalk. He got out, gently picked her up and placed her in the passenger seat. "We're going to the hospital. That's either Broken or badly sprained. but it's most likely broken." "Thanks baby." She smiled weakly due to the pain as silent tears rolled down her face. Any time she tried to move her ankle her whole leg felt a sharp pain which made her cry out softly. It was about a thirty minute drive to the hospital but Damian was making sure to miss all the potholes and bumps in the road as possible, this took about fifteen minutes longer than the regular trip would. He carefully parked and carried her into the emergency room. As the doctors examined her ankle she let out a pain filled scream. This caused the doctors to immediately start prepping for an x-ray. With every small touch she let out a small cy of pain. When they got the results back it was indeed broken, not severely but fractured in a couple of places. Ella let out a pained groan of frustration as they secured the boot onto her ankle.
