My First Run

560 Words
I looked at the white wolf standing beside me before an idea came to my mind. Can we go for a run? I pondered. Of course! He smiled a large wolfy grin before spinning around and taking off. I quickly spun and darted after him. He was running effortlessly in front of me and so I started going faster and faster until the woods around me were only a blur and the wind was piercing my fur. Despite my increasing speed he stayed ahead and just out of my reach. Suddenly he stopped and I ran right into him, knocking us both on the ground. Oh snap! He's going to be mad! Instead he started laughing and started wrestling with me.  and we flipped over and over till we were both laughing and out of breath. He sat up and said "I have waited so long for the chance to run with you. But my time here is running out. We should talk. Suddenly a tall and handsome fully clothed man was sitting beside me. Shift, he said. I pondered how to do that when he said, just picture yourself as a human. Somehow I couldn't picture the small girl I was used to seeing in the mirror every day. So I thought about how he looked. And in an instant I was sitting there next to him. Very nice change, he said. What do you mean? Go see for yourself, he said while pointing to a pond that I had not noticed while we were wrestling. I stoop and walked to the age of the pond and he came with me. I gazed down into my reflection and saw a tall, beautiful, pale haired girl. The only recognizable feature to me were the pale ice blue eyes staring back into my soul. I was nearly as tall as the man!  Wow! I don't understand any of this, I said. Why am I just now meeting you? And my wolf? How could I just change my appearance?! There is much that you do not know and understand and unfortunately I do not have the time to explain it all. What I can tell you is that your mother was chosen because I knew she could keep you safe. She loves you so much and you both needed each other. It took most of my power to get you to her. A threat is rapidly approaching that could destroy the werewolf world. Your powers had to be hidden to keep you safe, and you need to keep it that way until you have learned how to fight and protect yourself. I want you to train with the werewolf's in your pack and stay in your human form. Your old human form. Do not shift or use your power unless there is an immediate threat to your life or that of a pack member.  I suspect the trainer will not want to allow this. But tell them you must learn to defend yourself in case you do not meet your wolf soon. Ok? If you start to feel like you will lose control, take a moment and think about your mothers love for you, and mine as well. I nodded at him and suddenly was very tired, so I layed down and curled up into a little ball and closed my eyes.
