Chapter 2

Logan's POV 'Alpha, there's an intruder in the pack. They just passed through the pack borders,' my Beta's voice says through the mind link. His voice holds the same confusion that I feel because who the f**k would have dared to pass through my borders. We haven't had a trespasser in years and I oddly want to see who had the balls to do so. Fifteen minutes later, my wolf walks into what I can only describe as chao as my warriors surround a figure that's seated on the floor. But amidst that chaos; is the absolute best f*****g scent that I've ever smelt. Like honey and everything great mixed together and creating this f*****g delicious scent that I can't seem to get enough of. My wolf's nostrils flare as I try to take in as much of the scent as I can. My paws start moving towards the crowd, trying to find out who possesses that scent. "Where are you from?" George, one of my best warriors asks the figure on the ground in a rather harsh manner. A tone that I didn't at all appreciate for some unknown reason. "I've told you already. I don't remember how I came here," she answers tearily. "Please, don't hurt me," she whimpers, dragging herself backwards on the ground to get away from them. She doesn't really get anywhere because about five of my warriors have surrounded her so she has nowhere to go. The fear infused in her voice makes me want to tear my way through the crowd surrounding her and wrap her in my arms. My wolf is being ansty and restless the closer I draw towards the crowd. My Beta, Jake, is the first person to notice me and he moves away from the crowd and closes the distance between us. "She claims to not know how she stumbled onto the pack and we can't get any valuable information out of her," he explains. "What should we do with her?" My gaze falls back on the crowd, my skin feeling prickly as my warriors close in on her more. I notice the exact moment she feels my presence. Her spine stiffens, her eyes widen with shock and her nostrils flare as she takes in a deep breath. Her eyes frantically move around the crowd surrounding her and land on me. Her mouth parts but no words come out because her eyes roll into her head as she slumps onto the dirty ground. My heart slams into my chest, fear coiling into a tight fist around my heart and trepidation making me motionless for a good five seconds. As soon as the first warrior lowers himself to the ground and places his hand on her chest, I shift into my human form and race towards them. Pushing the warrior onto the ground, I squat over her body and let out a deep breath of relief when I see the steady rising and falling of her chest. That's when I noticed the red liquid running down the side of her face. Blood. How did I not smell it before? It's pungent and sickening. I guess that's what made her faint. Losing this much blood can't be good. With my heart slamming against my chest, I take my first good look at her. My eyes devour everything from her blond hair that's turning red from the blood soaking the strands, down to her slender neck and further down her tattered clothes that are ripped by what could only be claws. Her face and body are covered with dirt like she has been dragged through the mud or has spent several days in the woods. Without even realising it, I reach out and brush some dirt away from her pale cheeks. That's when it happens. 'MATE!' my wolf hollers. 'She's our mate,' he chants like I could have possibly missed it the first time he said it. 'How is that possible?' I ask, more to myself than to my wolf. I've spent half of my life searching for my mate, and when I finally decide to give up, she waltzs in and disrupts everything. What kind of cruel fate is this? "Alpha, what should we do with her?" One of my warriors asks, effectively snapping me out of the turmoil of conflicting emotions that I'm currently experiencing. Taking care of her is more important. Later, preferably in the comfort of my room, I'll sit down and decipher each of every one of these emotions and come up with a reasonable solution for the crap I've just found myself in. "Send a call for the pack doctor," I order. A warrior steps forward to take her away from me but I hold out a hand to stop him. Sliding my hand under my mate's body, I pick her up and hold her against my body. She feels so light in my arm, and I would be worried if it wasn't for the steady rise of her chest. Ignoring the murmurs and whispered words coming from my warriors, I hastily carry my mate towards the pack house. *** Without even thinking about it, I take her to my room and place her on the king-size bed. A few minutes later, the pack doctor enters the room, gives me a swift nod and rushes towards my mate's side. "What happened to her?" He questions as he sets his bag on the bed and starts ransacking through it. "We stumbled upon her and she was already bruised up," I explain. My door opens for the second time, but I don't turn around to see who has joined us until I feel a soft tap on my shoulder. "Logan, you should probably get dressed into some clothes," Jake suggests with a pair of jeans and a T-shirt in his hand. That's when I realised that I'd been walking around in the nude and flashing everybody. It's not a big deal but the fact that I didn't even take notice of it is slightly alarming. I take the clothes from his outstretched hands and quickly change into them. Just as I'm done getting dressed, the pack doctor draws the cover over my mate's body and steps away from the bed with an inscrutable expression on his face. I move to his side. "How is she?" I rush out. "She should be fine. She lost quite a bit of blood but her wound is already healing up nicely," he says with a look towards the bed. "She should be up and moving about by tomorrow." I let out a sigh of relief that I didn't even know I was holding. "She kept saying that she doesn't remember anything," Jake says from behind me. "Do you have any idea about what that could be about?" The pack doctor's forehead furrows. "It could be because of the head trauma she sustained." A pause. "Or it could be psychological." "Psychological?" Jake and I echo together. We get a nod from the pack doctor. "It could be that the circumstances surrounding her injuries are too traumatic to her, so her mind has decided to push them away," he explains further. "If it happens to be psychological, how long will it take for her to regain those memories?" I ask slowly, slightly scared of what the answer might be. He shrugs. "Only time will tell." Both Jake and I share a look as the pack doctor moves back to the bed and starts packing up his equipment. This isn't good. We need to know who she is and how she came upon our pack. We can't wait for her memories to resurface. I don't have the patience or time for it. "Send for me immediately if her condition should change." The pack doctor says firmly while casting one last look at my mate on the bed. "That should be all for now." With a nod at Jake and me, he heads for the door and exits the room. I heave a sigh as I look at my beate n-up mate that lying on my bed. How did my day take such a completely different turn?
