Robin knocked on Iris’s door and was, once again, surprised by Henry opening it. She stared at him for a moment and said. “Sorry, it’s just your presence in here is a hard thing to get used to.” Wilder chuckled from behind her as Robin pushed Henry aside and made her way inside. “It’s the warmest greeting she has given, you are lucky your nose is still intact,” Wilder said to Henry and pointed to his own nose Henry chuckled uncomfortably and allowed yet another of Iris’s friends to push through him to enter their house.
“Iris, you in?” Robin called as she went towards her door. “My gods, Robin! You should start giving warnings before you decide to barge in my house.” Iris said from the bathroom and Robin laughed. Robin stood in front of the bathroom door as she heard the tap turn on. “Can’t even s**t in my own house,” Iris mumbled as she opened the door.
Iris looked one over her friend and immediately hugged her. “Gods and Goddesses, Robin. We were worried so much. I was about to force Wilder to start planning your rescue mission!” Robin laughed at the notion of Iris and Wilder rescuing her. They were the most unlike duo and not the greatest fighters. “We? How many people have you guys actually told?” Robin looked at her friend as they pulled away. Iris sighed and waved Robin’s concerns away. “We will talk, just let me get few things in order first.”
Robin followed her friend blindly as they walked back to the living room. Wilder and Henry were chatting as the girls entered the room, Wilder and Iris shared a nod and Robin looked between them. “Alright, Henry ready for the game? I am gonna get River and others, we can meet in the field.” Wilder pat Henry on the back and looked at Robin for a second too long before making his way out.
Henry and Iris shared a kiss, much to Robin’s dismay. And after it, Henry left, and immediately after it, the girls flooded Iris’s house. Hope, with a much, much bigger belly than Robin expected, was the first to squeak and hug Robin. Then Blair and Wren jumped up to join and iris just shrugged from distance. “I got my welcome hug first, suck it losers.” Robin looked around at her friends and laughed, finally, she felt home.
She understood why Wilder broke Axel’s rule and told Iris. Technically it wasn’t even breaking the rule. A few years ago, when the deal with the Moon Goddess was just settled, Alpha Orion imposed the same rule: only the family can know and Robin nodded and agreed, saying that her friends were her family. Wilder was there and he, somehow, remembered that exchange. Robin forgot. Lucien made us forget. Her wolf growled.
“Now, we need to know everything,” Hope said and took the sofa while the girls sat on the ground. Robin looked from one to the other. “Didn’t Wilder tell you everything?” She questioned to which Wren rolled her eyes. “yeah also why was he the one you tasked with everything and not me?” Iris also joined in, “or me.” Robin sighed and leaned on the wall. “I wasn’t sure how Axel would like the news to spread, so it had to be someone from the Alpha family. Telling you that I might have to kidnap you and there is an Alpha that wants you to mother his children didn’t feel right.” Robin said to Wren and others chuckled. “Well, who knows, maybe I might actually fancy this Lucien fella,” Wren said with a shrug.
“Seriously though. Tell us everything, Wilder wasn’t the best storyteller.” Iris said and Wren nodded in support. “Yeah, he was way too invested in making sure that Axel and I understood everything. He was like a chaotic teacher of ancient wolves.” Robin shook her head with a chuckle, “alright, where should I start?”
After Robin retold the nightmare of the last 2 months once more to her friends, Hope was crying. “I am sorry, I forgot about the baby situation you are having, should have kept it un-cryable.” Girls chuckled and Blair shook her head. “It’s okay, Hope was crying at a car commercial the other day. It’s not you. But that’s also a very f****d up situation.” Blair offered Robin one of her soft smiles. She felt her heart warm and flutter. This was followed by a forceful voice entering her head. They aren’t worth your time. They aren’t needed.
Robin cleared her throat and shook her head, Iris gave her a concerned look. “It’s okay, sometimes I kinda need to... you know… shake the thoughts away.” Her friends exchanged looks and Iris suggested a movie. The tension was dead. But the voice kept coming back to her head.
Robin ignored it for the majority of the movie, the rest she spent distracting herself by leaning on Iris’s shoulder or touching Hope’s belly to feel the creature kick. After the movie, Robin decided to take a walk to help her mind clear. 1 day was gone. 2 more to go until she has to see Lucien again. She kind of craved to see him, to see that absolutely narcissistic look on him, and to prove him wrong. But deep down, she was also…. Not looking forward to seeing him. Robin enjoyed her life without the constant pressure or anxiety of having to see Lucien.
But his voice was still a presence in her head, she needed to find a way to get it out. Will it end when he is dead? Will she have to kill him? Can she kill him? Robin shook her head, shaking the thoughts and questions. All she could do now is to enjoy the break and have a plan of action.
So, Robin did just that. The next day she woke up early and made her way to the library, deciding to refresh her knowledge on the Alpha tone. Maybe even find a way to stop it from taking affect. She also read about the Oak Tails, and once again reminded the words of her mother.
People in here especially people like your father are guided by power. The longer they keep the pureblood line going. The more power they will have. But that’s the thing with power, it’s never enough and you always crave more.
Robin noticed how the pack's history got less clear. There were a lot more ‘defended attacks’ in the last century. Some seemed too big of a response for a small ‘attack’ that was made on Oak Tails. She read how one neighboring pack’s members crossed the Oak Tails border which didn’t result in any damage or death, they crossed back and apologized. Which resulted in the Oak Tails Alpha forcing his way to the pack and taking over it.
Robin felt bad, she kept remembering how Lucien justified his attack plans and spoke of Oak Tails getting its old glory back. What was the old glory? Robin always failed to understand it. Is it something worth getting back? Robin felt the pit in her stomach grow the more she thought about it. The pack. Her history. Was it as good as she was led to believe or did she only remember the good stuff because it was lost?
Then, with a newfound determination Robin made her way to Axel’s office, she wasn’t expected until an hour later, but it didn’t matter. She was let in by the staff and was told to follow one of the maids as she led the way to the office. Robin hasn’t seen her here before, in fact, she was never led there by a maid. Because Wilder was always the one with her, going there, side by side, to face the Alpha. Robin breathed out and focused on the maid as she knocked on Alpha’s door. She had to do this one alone, it would be much easier to do it alone.
Axel was surprised to see her earlier, even more, surprised by her next words. “I can’t know the full plan,” Robin said and sat down. Seeing the confused look on Axel’s face, Robin decided to dial back. “Just tell me the parts of the plan that involve me and keep me out of the know. If… when... I go back to Oak Tails, Lucien will have questions, they are getting harder and harder to ignore. If I c***k and answer truthfully, it will ruin everything.” Axel listened and sighed. “You have less trust in yourself every day. We will manage it.” Robin shook her head, “No, you don’t get it, the only thing standing between him and literal mind control is this mental wall that I keep building. It keeps shaking and I have to go back and try to fix it most of the day. I don’t think the wall has long left in it. If it falls…. It’s gone for. I am gone for.”
Axel sighed and leaned back on his seat. He gave her a nod while still thinking it over. “If not knowing the plan increases the chances of the wall. We will not tell you the plan.” Robin finally sighed and leaned back. “Thank you,” Robin let the silence fall until she was ready to say the 2nd thing she came for.
“I know I am in no place to ask, but I need you to promise me something,” Robin said and looked at Axel, his attention snapped to her, eager to know more. “If I become like Lucien if he takes over. Wound me, kill me, do anything to stop me from harming others.” Axel looked at her with wide eyes. “Kill you?” Robin nodded with the same seriousness she spoke with. “I know Lucien, his first target would be to harm the Alpha family and I would be the perfect soldier to do it. And you know who is the perfect first victim.” Axel’s wolf got angry at the mention of the other Alpha.
Perfect victim. Wilder. Axel realized and, as if sensing this, Robin spoke again. “Don’t let it happen. Stop me.”
