CONFUSION CREEPING

Celine paused for a moment, as if picking her words.

Her lips were wide apart but they couldn't produce a single word.

She returned her gaze on the man she had been staring at all this while, and once again, she smiled to herself.

"Oh!" She finally said something. "I'm sorry for keeping you wondering all this while. Anyways, in case you don't know, he is the Alpha. The reason for the season. He is the only reason why this occasion is being held today."

I was dumbfounded at once. How come I never thought in that direction?

I was dead struck by his undeniable handsomeness that I never thought of him being the Alpha.

This just justified the reason why there was always a dance competition after all.

Asides the fact that he was a well known and influential figure in the pack, he was also handsome in all ramifications.

He had walked in with a well tailored suit, leaving the heads of so many maidens turning as he passed by.

Which maiden in her right senses would even say no to him?

At this point, I didn't care what it was I had planned earlier, I had to get him at all costs.

I no longer wanted to have anything to do with my mate, that's if I would ever see him.

This was love at first sight. And to think that I also had the opportunity to prove myself to him by showcasing my dance steps before him, then I was just one step away from getting him.

I had to put in my all to these preparations, so that as soon as he set his eyes on me, he wouldn't think twice before making me his bride.

"He is so cute, I must confess." I found myself saying those words before Celine.

Even though she didn't look so happy at first, she feigned a little smile and nodded it off.

I could see the look of displeasure on her face the moment I said that about the Alpha.

"Alright! I guess it's time to put in more work. Look over there, there are a lot of maidens already waiting by the side."

I went with her instruction, and at once I saw the maidens all looking creative and stunning in their attires.

Everyone tried to wink at the Alpha to get his attention, but he pulled back, fixing his gaze on his phone.

I still couldn't contain my excitement, especially at this point that I had seen what the Alpha looks like already.

But how come I once got those rumors about him being ruthless to others? He looked so calm and humble that I began to doubt everything I was once told about him.

One after the other, the maidens stepped out in their place to the dance floor.

The rule was that the maiden would keep dancing and if eventually she catches the attention of the Alpha, he would step up to the floor and grab her to himself.

Each of the maidens seemed just as excited as I was, leaving me to ponder if I was really going to win his heart over.

I was the last maiden on the queue, and for that I had already lost all hopes that I was ever going to be chosen.

I mean, the Alpha had obviously seen more than enough beautiful maidens and dance steps already. Was he ever going to look my way?

Those were the doubts I had in mind. I was so devastated that I almost forgot everything Celine had taught me earlier.

As soon as I stepped on the dance floor, even before I went on with any moves, Alpha Freeman got to his feet.

His mouth was wide agape, leaving me to wonder if I had done something wrongly.

He not only looked dumbfounded, but he also kept staring at me like that was the last thing he was ever going to do.

He suddenly waved his hands to the air in a delighted manner, grabbing the attention of everyone in the hall.

"I don't think there will be any need for this show to go on anymore because I have found her!" He announced excitedly as he took a bold step forward.

The whole maidens were thrown into confusion. Each person turned their necks around to find out where exactly Alpha Freeman was headed.

I was not left behind also. But mine was not a look of confusion. It was that of curiosity and anxiety.

I had caught him staring at me earlier, but I was not convinced that he was referring to me in any way, because I was yet to partake in the competition before he interrupted.

I met the biggest shock of my life the moment he stepped into the center of the hall, his eyes flashing with excitement as they locked into mine.

I was unconsciously helpless, letting myself be enticed by his charming smile.

I could hear everyone murmuring to themselves quietly, and that got me even more restless.

What exactly was going on?

As if that was not enough, he gripped my hands firmly, pressing them into his and raising it high to the air. "She is the one!" He yelled with unwavering delight. "She is the only one who has won my heart so far. As a matter of fact, she is my mate."

"Mate?" Everyone chorused grudgingly. "How's that even possible? We all know Alpha Freeman never has a mate. He has never fallen in love with any maiden."

"I suspect Charlotte must have bewitched him in some kind of way."

"Well, the joke is on her in that case. She has just declared her own death sentence with her own hands." I heard someone else say.

All this while I had been listening to the side talks, I was yet to discover any comment which got to me as this one did.

There were a lot of questions I needed to ask here. I had to be cleared and convinced that I was indeed going to be safe as the Alpha's mate.

Wait a minute! This only explains the reason why Celine had always made sure that I was the chosen maiden.

Could this be true?
