CHARLOTTE WHO IS HE? “I see!” Those were the only words I managed to say. Her explanation was so convincing that I didn't bother thinking twice. “It's fine.” I finally agreed to her request, even though it felt so difficult at first. Whatever had made Celine to suddenly turn around to be all nice to me, only meant that she really wanted me to participate in the competition. We went from arguing almost all the time with each other, to training together and learning new dance steps everyday. “I can't wait to see you move on the dance floor.” Celine announced as I practiced the moves she introduced. She looked so happy seeing me get them all perfectly. In no time, we got really acquainted with each other that I could no longer stand a minute without her. Mr Olive and Mrs Alice, her parents, had just traveled out of the pack for a business proposal, leaving only Celine and I together. “I can't wait too. And I just hope the Alpha chooses me as his bride.” “Of course! Why won't he choose you? Trust me, as soon as you are done learning and perfecting these dance moves, he would not even think twice before he chooses you as his next bride.” She said proudly, with a wide smile on her face. I was happy to hear those words from her. But come to think of it, what exactly did she mean when she said the words, next bride? Does it mean Alpha Freeman had other brides he was living with? I flashed her a look of confusion. “What do you mean when you say he will choose me as his next bride? Does it mean he has other brides in the palace?” I asked curiously. “Oh..” Celine paused for a moment without saying a single word. She bit her lower lip repeatedly, her face coursing with a frown. She suddenly let out a smile, but I was not entirely convinced by that. I had a strong feeling she was hiding something from me. “Umm.. I'm so sorry for having not said this earlier. Pardon me for that.” My ears flagged up in curiosity as I awaited what she had to say. “Okay, fine. Actually, Alpha Freeman had other maidens who also became his brides through this same way. But at the end of the day, they all ended up chased away by him for being unable to make him an heir." "Oh really?!" I asked in awe. If really this was true about Alpha Freeman, then what gave Celine the boldness to think that I would also not be chased away by him? Was I really prepared to go through all these troubles only to end up being thrown out of the palace in a few years' time? I stared into Celine's face one more time, still unable to place my hand on the exact reason why she was so compassionate about me participating in the dance competition. "And what if I don't impress the so-called Alpha, what becomes of me?" I asked in curiosity. I really wanted to know. I needed to be sure that the stress attached to all these preparations was going to be worth it at the end of the day. She smiled quietly as she ran a finger through my hair. "Relax, Charlotte. I am only helping you get prepared because I believe in you. I know you will definitely make me proud at the end of the day." I didn't realize when I began to smile too. Her words were quite convincing, and at this point, I was left with no other choice but to go with her advice. My mind was fully geared up to partake in the dance competition this time around. Each time I thought about the privilege of standing on the same stage with the Alpha, I couldn't help but be proud of myself. Even though I was not certain whether or not I would be chosen by him, I was convinced of the fact that seeing him alone was enough for me. "I can't wait!" I exclaimed happily. *** The day finally arrived and I was so eager to be assembled alongside with other maidens, before the Alpha. As usual, Celine was my strength in distress. She assisted me with the best dance dress I could ever think of. While she was busy adorning my hair with colorful beads, the gates of the grand hall flung open. A troop of cars drove in, with some men marching after the cars majestically. I was more than delighted having Celine adorn me as a beautiful bride. And asides the fact that I was eager to engage in the dance competition, I also wished to find my mate in this large gathering. I prayed silently and wished that Alpha Freeman was never going to choose me as his bride after all, just so I would be able to find my rightful mate. As soon as I raised my head once again, I saw a charming and handsome man step out in grand style, out of one of the many cars which stood in the garage. My mouth gaped unconsciously as I was lost staring at him. He walked towards the other side of the hallway, following the directives of the men who guarded him. I was so curious to find out who that could be. I turned to Celine only to find her also smiling to herself as she stared at the man lustfully. I tapped her shoulder gently, but she didn't flinch. She was still clearly lost in her world of imaginations. "Celine?" I yelled her name this time, and she jumped to her feet. She stared at me anxiously, her eyes steaming with excitement. "Y..yes." She stuttered. "I see you were lost in thoughts while staring at him." I directed my gaze at the man once again. A faint smile appeared on her face, her cheeks wobbling with delight. Seeing her act this way, it only meant two things. She was either admiring him or he was her mate. "Who is he?”
