“No!” I yelled echoing Rucker’s voice.
Scarlett’s horrible cry of pain tore my heart in two. Rucker and I threw ourselves on her, she was falling. I managed to catch up with her before she crashed to the ground and hugged her to me.
“Scarlett...” I gasped, holding her tightly in my arms.
“She was bitten!”
I stared at Rucker as if he was speaking another language to me. Yet, I understood as well.
“Do you hear what I’m telling you? She was bitten!”
I scanned the sky. That damn exploiter had slipped away before I even realized what he had done to Scarlett.
