The Letterman Wolves Series: Book 1: Secrets Of The Alpha

"Amber! Get up! You have less than 20 minutes before it's time to be sworn in as the Alpha of this pack, and I'll be damned if you are late!" my mother shrieked at me through my bedroom door. I groaned loudly as I rolled over and folded my pillow over my head. Today would be the day that I went from being just the alphas daughter to the alpha herself. I Rolled out of bed and made my way to the bathroom. When I flipped on the light I winced from how bright the room became and I knew that tonight was gonna be a b***h. My wolf was making her way to the surface and it was really starting to hurt like hell. I turned on the shower and stepped into the hot water and let it rush over my head and the muscles in my back. I got out and found the best outfit for tonight and threw it on. I've never really been the girly type so no need it putting on some princess dress. My pack has always been accepting of the way that I am and they also know that I give absolutely no flying f***s about what others think about my wardrobe selection. I brushed my hair and threw on my favorite hat and picked a matching outfit and shoes, and ran downstairs. Wolves from all over were meeting here tonight because we had the biggest amount of open space for pack runs and most importantly, more room to accommodate for multiple packs for the annual coming of age bash. A lot of the southern packs don't have fancy balls or dances for young wolves to meet their potential mates. We have a week long camp out right here at Lupine Ridge and it gets pretty wild. And to top it off it makes shifting for the first time a lot easier for first timers. And as luck would have it, tonight's bash kicks off with a full moon. My mom is hoping that I find my fated mate tonight but I've always had a feeling that I would get my mate later in life. Because the moon goddess knows me well enough to know that I'm nowhere near ready for a mate. I want to learn as much as I can about my pack and it's laws, and create good relationships with my ranked wolves, considering all of them are supposed to lay their lives down for me if it became necessary. But I want that same bond with them. I want to protect them as much as they want to protect me. I pushed all thoughts of my future to the back of my mind as the elder of Lupine Ridge called me forward to join him at the center of the open field where a good 800 pack members from mine and surrounding packs stood in a giant circle, waiting for the moon to reach its peak. "Tonight marks a special night in history, where not only will most of you shift for the first time, but some will also meet your fated mates. But tonight is special in a different way for one particular young lady. This young woman has perseverance, strength, and most of all she has her fathers knoweledge and wisdom of the old ways instilled into her. Her father as many of you may know, was recently killed protecting his pack in a random rogue attack that unfortunately lead to his demise. He left specific instructions to me in his will, that he wanted his only daughter to be named alpha of the Lupine Ridge pack, in honor of his mother who many of you may know, was one of the most powerful female alphas ever to be known in werewolf history." He paused for a moment as if to let the packs take in the information and after about 3 minutes of silence, everyone erupted in cheers and howls, essentially letting it be known that they had accepted my fathers decision. He raised his hands and once again everyone fell silent. He turned to me and said "Without further ado I, Elder Jameson Rivers, hereby declare you, Amber Rain Nickels, Alpha Of The Lupine Ridge Pack!" The moment the last word left his lips the moon light became so bright that everyone, including elder Jameson, covered their eyes as a figure appeared right above the field. Our Goddess, Selene was smiling down at me as she lowered herself onto the earth. She made her over to me and wrapped me in an embrace, one that i didnt return only because i was shocked that she showed up to my Alpha ceremony. My father told me the only time she has shown herself in front of so many wolves at once, was my grandmothers alpha ceremony. He also told me that if Selene ever shows herself, its either gonna end really good or really bad. So i instantly became nervous, wondering why i was either so special all of sudden or very unfortunate. As soon as the thought left my mind she let out a hearty laugh that gave me an all around sense of calm and she said, "Come now child, i am here only to bear good news. I am here as a request to your grandmother." My ears perked up at this information and i found myself returning her embrace as i waited for her to deliver the message from my grandmother. After a moment of embracing one another, she pulled back and said, "Your grandmother asked me to come here tonight and bless you with all of her abilities that i blessed her with so many years ago. But i must warn you that it took her several years to master each one of her gifts and she asked that i let you choose whether or not you wanted these gifts or not. Also, not to persuade you in any way but based on what I've seen in the future, i must say that these gifts will suit you,in more ways than one. I see the fire in your soul and the need to protect your pack, much like the want and need that I saw in your fathers soul when he became alpha. But i also need to let you know that with great power, comes an even greater responsibility." I nodded my head and let myself slip into my own thoughts for a moment to process everything my goddess just told me. I remember my grandmother being able to do things that ordinary wolves only dreamed about being able to do. I silently prayed that she wasn't taking offense to my lack of responding to her right away. I just didn't want to make this decision without giving it some serious thought. After a few moments, i looked at her and i smiled and said, "I would be honored to carry her gifts with me into this journey of alpha hood, under one condition." I could hear gasps all around me as everyone heard me basically give our mother goddess a condition of any kind and i quickly recovered my previous statement with, "please don't take offense to my request, your majesty. I just simply believe that i need this request for the better version of me to come forward as the leader of my pack." She smiled brightly at me and said "I'm one step ahead of you child and i have already granted your request. Now, I must cause you a bit of necessary pain to bestow these gifts upon you. But as soon as the pain starts, it will just as quickly be gone. Elder Rivers, please step behind her and prepare to catch her as she may pass out from all the energy that's about to enter her body." He did as he was told and took his place behind me. She reached forward and touched both of my temples. A white hot seering pain shot through my body with such force that everything went black.
