Seeing Aiden really tore at my heart, but I needed to put all of that aside for the sake of this alliance. I’m sorry but who the f*ck does Darla b*tch think she is! Selena growls while her temper slowly rises. I don’t blame her for being upset. H*ll if I shifted, Selena would surely have taken her head off, and there would have been nothing anyone could do to stop her.

“What was I to expect? Aiden rejected me Sel, he moved on. I mean, his taste is certainly questionable, but it’s not our problem.” I sound as if I’m defending him, which is making me a little sick to my stomach as I hear the words come out myself.

She couldn’t find her play toy, so she swooped in on us, pathetic. Selena scoffs, he isn’t ours! We aren’t his mates anymore! I bark at Selena. I am getting frustrated as she is still attached to him, which makes me mad. She goes to the back of my mind and shuts me out. Whatever.

*Ding*

I look down at my lit up phone, my face lights up when I see Ben’s name.

Ben: Hey kiddo, still planning on stopping by? Ally is here waiting.

Me: Ya throw some sweat on, I’ll be over.

My expression could not possibly hide how excited I felt at that moment. I hadn’t seen my parents in six months, nor Ally and Ben. I quickly change into some comfy sweats and hoodie, I throw on my favorite pair of combat boots that drive Valentina insane. I close my door, making my way to the elevator, but not quickly enough, apparently. Low and behold; there’s Aiden walking straight towards me. F*ck I was so close to avoiding him for the rest of the evening.

“Oh hey.” He says, giving a cheeky smile, slicking his hair back with his hand. “I see you’re heading out.” I can tell he is trying to form his sentence into the words of a question, but I ignore him. I’m not really a fan of small talk.

“Was there something you needed, Alpha?” I asked in the most polite tone I could muster. He gave me a strange look. He knows I am trying too hard.

“Look; about earlier, Darla was way out of line, and she has been dealt with accordingly. I just wanted to come and apologize on her behalf and mine. Also…you can call me Aiden.” He gives a nervous chuckle while attempting to keep eye contact. I can’t seem to figure out why he’s so nervous, but I brush it off.

“Well thank you, if there is nothing else, I won’t keep you any further said, I know being Alpha is a busy job.” I said as I brushed past him, barely touching his shoulder. That was all it took for the electricity to spark between us. I got to the elevator and looked back at him. He’s smirking before walking off. He definitely felt it too.

I make my way out of the packhouse smiling; I feel this pull to Opal Moon I can’t quite describe, but I love it. Mind linking Cam and Zane and letting them know where I am going. I told them to have fun tonight and not to be too uptight. Lord knows they don’t need any help with that when they are together.

“Buddy showed us the game room, and we were about to have a sick black ops battle. Let us know if you need anything.” I heard Cam's mind linking me. Of course, they are gaming, I think, as I rolled my eyes while chuckling.

I walk down the street feeling the wind in my hair, remembering the night I left. I walk past a bench, looking at it with sorrow as I take a seat. This is the bench I sat on the night I left. I felt like I was sitting there for ages before picking myself up and leaving. I run my hand along the arm of the bench, feeling the smooth oak, closing my eyes as a tear slowly releases itself. We did what we thought was best for us. Selena whines. I can feel her sadness as her tail goes down along with her head. I think about what has happened to me in the last few months, how much my life has changed. I try to force a smile, but one doesn’t come. I can’t stop the feeling of missing home; missing my family, and wondering why I wasn’t good enough to be someone's mate.

Getting myself up, I walk along until I see a very familiar sight, my childhood home. The porch is all lit up, they are waiting for me and I can’t help but give a little shriek of joy. I head up the stairs and turn the unlocked door knob, I step into the cozy home.

“She’s here!” I heard a voice I had missed. I looked and saw Ally running towards me. She practically leaped into my arms, almost knocking me over. Tears start streaming down her face; I then see my parents and Ben, running forward as well. After all the hugging and tears, we head into the living room to eat heads. Ally and Ben have me arm in arm. We sat down to eat. I could hear Selena purring, she was so happy to be home.

“Darling, we are so happy we got to see you, if only for a little while.” my mother says while passing Ben the mashed potatoes. I can tell there is a hint of sadness in her voice. “So mother travels fast, I hear you have your own pack now?” My father pipes up, trying to change the topic. “That is so exciting, we will have to come visit sometime.” He finishes as he scoops potatoes into his mouth, while holding my mothers hand, seeing them together makes me so happy.

“Yes, of course, you are all always welcomed on my lands, and it can be glorious but lots of work.” I chuckled, words appeared to be getting stuck in my throat. I don’t want to let them know so much as to spare feelings.

“Well. Now I am sure you know what Alpha Aiden goes through. It must be crazy.” Ally chirps while playing with her food. This makes me pause mid-chewing. I give Ben a look. He has always suspected me leaving had something to do with Aiden, but he never dared to ask me. I can tell he is studying my face, and his expression turns hard as he looks away.

“Oh kid I forgot to tell you, I got promoted to head tracker.” Ben says while swallowing his water. The transition wasn’t smooth, but everyone went with it.

“That’s amazing Ben, congratulations! You have always been a dedicated worker, you earned it.” I said while smiling at Ben. My brother is truly an amazing person and I hope me leaving didn’t taint that. We all continue making small talk and laughing. I can hear Selena howling in my head, missing this genuine happy feeling. I can’t help but feel a little unfair as I sat at the dinner table. When I left, I didn’t really think about what I did to all of them. Maybe it’s time we told them the truth. Selena coos to me. I know she can feel how much this has been killing me over the months.

I wait until we are finished with dinner, and stand up from my chair. I see everyone fall silent as they all look at me. I can feel the tension slowly building in the room. I clear my throat loudly as I prepare to speak, not sure how to find the appropriate words.

“Coming back here, being with all of you here tonight has made me realize something.” I took a slight pause, I saw the confusion spreading across everyone's face. I, however, feel calm, knowing this is the right thing to do.

“The reason I left… That night at the party, I found my mate.” I close my eyes and felt tears rolling down my face. I want to stay strong for everyone, but I simply cannot at this moment. Suddenly, I felt the warmth of Ally’s hand on mine. I looked up and saw her giving me a soft smile.

“We know you were mated to Alpha Aiden.” my eyes widened as Ally spoke. I am utterly shocked. How did they know? The look of shock was visible on my face, and I couldn’t help but let out a sudden laugh while still crying.

“What, but how?” I asked. I could feel my words slowly stuttering. I looked at my family, who all looked suspiciously calm. I then see Ben stand up.

“After our talk that night, I was watching you. I noticed you had disappeared, when you came out of the coat closet looking distraught, I saw Aiden come after.” He raised his hands through his hair, and I could sense an unease about him. “I tried to go after you, but mom stopped me.” He looked over at my mother who was looking at me with sad eyes. I saw her put her wine down as she grabbed my father's hands.

“Baby, when I found your father, it was one of the best days of my life, it was truly a gift. The moon goddess has a plan for us all, and when I found out what happened, I knew you would leave. The pain is something I can’t imagine, nor would I wish on anyone. I told your brother not to go after you, if you stayed here it would only break your spirit.” She pauses as she gets up from her chair and walks towards me. She begins to extend her arms.

“You are such a strong beautiful girl, who is full of potential, and I wasn’t about to let Aiden break your spirit. You deserve to find yourself, and become the person I know you are.” I am fully crying at this point. I hugged my mother and never want to let go. She knew the whole time; they all did, and they let me go and made me think they didn’t. I look at her finally and all I see is her smiling at me, so soft and genuinely.

My parents soon head to bed, and it's just Ally, Ben, and I in the living room. We are chatting about the old days, laughing and drinking. We become increasingly loud as my dad tells us to be quiet, we all giggle like teenagers and apologize. Ally is telling me how lonely she is without me, but she and Ben have grown a lot closer. I am glad she has a friend to lean on, she drags him shopping and makes him carry all the bags. I laugh as I can only imagine my big brother walking around the mall with pink shopping bags, next to my petite blonde-haired best friend.

I get an idea in my head that makes me flip with excitement. I first tried to link the boys with my idea, and once confirmed, stood up, almost screaming. They both look at me like I’m crazy. I will admit the alcohol was getting to me a little bit.

“I am here until Sunday no matter what. How about Saturday? Do we all go to clubs? You can both meet my Beta and Gamma, plus my Co-Alpha would love to meet you both.” I don’t know why I didn’t think about this earlier, both my worlds would collide in the best way possible. I anxiously looked at both of their faces, waiting for any positive response. They both raise their glasses and shout Hizzar. That is the word we made up when we were kids, when we watched Pirates of the Caribbean. That is something the pirates would always say, and we adopted the saying when making group decisions. I smiled boldly, taking a big gulp of my drink, we laughed some more before all heading to bed.

I woke up the next morning feeling a pounding headache. Sidd alcohol woke me up. I cursed under my breath. I hear a knock at my door; my mother comes in holding a plate of pancakes in one hand, and aspirin in the other. I sat up in my bed smiling as I took the aspirin out of her hand. She sits on my bed smiling at me. I look around and see my room hasn’t changed one bit. I can tell no one has been here since I left. My mother keeps looking at me while I slowly eat my pancakes. I can feel she wants to tell me something, but she just keeps looking at me. She finally clears her throat while crossing her legs.

“Sweetie, I think it’s time I told you something about our pack's history.” With widened eyes, I stopped eating my pancakes and looked up at her. My face felt flushed as I became worried about what she was about to say.

“You remember in grade school when you learned about the Alpha history, and about pack lineage? Well, there are things they don’t teach in school. The reason is not to worry or concern young pups.” She takes my hand and starts rubbing it. I saw her face fall a little sullen as I caught her eyes falling.

“Long ago, our pack had to fight for these lands. Before there were really treaties or money, there was only war. Well, our pack was new and established. I am told that we had come over from the islands in search of a new home. Alpha Rob, our old leader, was fierce and strong. His name will forever be in history books, for he was the first foreign Alpha to ever duel and win over land. He came to these lands wanting to call this our new home, but there was a tribe here. They were witches who had no intention of leaving. Alpha Rob promised they would have a home here, but we also sought out a home. They finally sought out a treaty. This was the first treaty in history between witch and wolf, and because of Alpha Rob, witches and wolves coincide in peace. However, Alpha Rob falls in love with a Witch, whose name is nowhere to be found. She died in childbirth, because her body could not contain the fetus of a wolf. When the council of witches found out about this they were angry, and only wanted revenge. The head witch, Jasmine, put a curse on the family.

Under the moon of the seventh son will appear his fate, she is one of brown hair and amber eyes. The fate of the seventh son will bring great destruction, not to be broken until the price has been paid.”

I was visibly shaking as my mother spoke to me. I was stuck, not knowing what to say. How can this be? Why am I roped into a prophecy I didn’t ask for? This isn’t fair, my heart is beating a million miles an hour, I can’t think straight. I looked up at my mother, “so is the reason this pack fell?” I could see her looking at me with a puzzled look, not knowing how to answer the question to which I already knew the answer.

“If prophecies and legends have taught me one thing, it's that we are the makers of our own destiny.” She says this, so confidently it makes me cheer up a little bit, I don’t know how she always makes me feel better, but she does. “That night I was going to tell you the truth once I found out who your mate was, but I knew that would hold you back. You have accomplished so much; you have your own pack now, and you're making a name for yourself in the world. Don’t let this prophecy define you.” She is now giving me a stern look with both hands on either shoulder. I gulp hard thinking about my next words.

“You have always protected me and looked out for me. It is because of you I am the person I am today. I will not let that be in vain.” I gave her a smile as I pulled her into a hug. She leaves my room as I get out of bed, preparing for the uncomfortable day I am about to have. Moon Goddess… is this why you brought me back here?
