Need Money.
Lottie
"Are you sure he'll help me?" I asked, dropping my hands from the door.
After three years in this marriage, it had finally reached a point where I couldn't solve it anymore. Now, I needed money.
A huge amount of it, and only the person in there could help me.
Isla, my best friend glared at me, but didn't say a word, she just pushed me inside directly.
Even with her pushing me in, I didn't dare move forward, I could stand by the entry way. In there was the city's richest man, and Isla's elder brother but he had no
From here, I couldn't see what was going on inside, but I knew he was talking to someone. I couldn't make out their words but it seemed important.
"I'll make sure it works out," those were the first and last clear words I heard before Isla's voice came from behind me.
"Ren—"
I clasped my hands quickly over her mouth, lowering my voice to speak but I trailed off.
He had definitely heard her just now, her voice was too loud for him not to. I swallowed hard, and dropped my hand from her lips.
Isla's eyes scanned the surroundings, trying to understand the reason for my actions, soon her eyes widened but before she could say anything, an unknown face came towards us.
"Your brother asked for you two," he said, and my gaze drifted to Isla immediately.
I nibbled on my finger as I followed along. She nudged me on, but I could only follow along after taking in a deep breath.
He was just an ordinary human like me, what's the worst he could do to me? Moreover, I still had Isla. He would care about his sister's thoughts.
My eyes drifted across the room, and I caught sight of him immediately.
He sat at a corner of the room, and our eyes interlocked for just a split sound. I could feel shivers running down my spine as I dropped my eyes immediately.
Here I was thinking that there was a chance to help my husband out of his debts. Surviving alone would be a great feat!
"What are you doing here?" he asked, his voice was cool, and calm. Too calm for someone who knew I could have eavesdropped up on his conversation.
I shook my head, it shouldn't be that bad. I hardly heard anything.
"I missed you," Isla replied, and I tilted my head slightly towards her. Her voice was overly sweet, like she thought that would justify what we had just done.
Ren didn't answer, rather he just stared at her, and soon enough, she spoke.
"I brought her here to you," she said, a slight smile on her face. "She needs your help," she said.
Isla had warned me before we came here, her brother didn't do favors. He wouldn't help me, but I had insisted on trying — My husband wouldn't be the only one to bear the consequences alone if he didn't pay those debts.
"I didn't know I started to run charity," he responded.
I swallowed hard, and looked up to catch his face. He was stern, cold, and a single stare at me sent a shiver down my spine.
This didn't seem like such a good idea anymore.
"You can choose not to help, I just need your help with persuading mom to unfreeze my cards," she paused before adding. "She won't even talk to me now."
Ren didn't answer her, rather, his eyes drifted to me, and he scanned me.
"I..." I trailed off, I couldn't finish my words. I did know which word to say that wouldn't seem like a trick before his eyes.
"This is your new tactic?" Ren asked.
Right. He definitely thought that. Isla had always told me about her many methods to get her card back, of course he thought I was one of them.
"It's not..." I trialed off, meeting his intense gaze.
His eyes drifted across me and then finally he spoke. "What did you hear?" he asked.
"Nothing," I said immediately.
He didn't seem to believe me, but he didn't get to question me further as he just picked up his phone and walked out of the place, the man from the door following along.
"I'm sorry for this," Isla apologized and I turned towards her.
"I was the one who refused to listen," J replied, sighing heavily. How could I even choose to listen? My husband had gotten into some massive debt that I couldn't understand how it happened.
But one thing I've learned after three years with him is that his sufferings were mine, and sometimes, mine alone.
"Why don't you tell her?" Isla asked, snapping me out if my thoughts.
