Chapter 15

CAL POV   I closed the bathroom door and took a deep breath trying to calm my wolf inside. I wanted to claim what I know is mine but how can I? I would risk every ounce of trust I have with Wren, which let’s face it isn’t much. When I felt her distress deep in my core I had let my instincts take me to her. Seeing her on the floor in fear and feeling her need for me gave me a feeling I had never felt. The need to put her life before my own and protect her at all cost.  Ezra had no right to come here and he is after something but what that is I am not sure yet. One thing is for sure he has some inside men in my pack. Finding my mate will soon start to circulate through the pack. I’ve tried to keep her hidden from most because of her inexperience with wolves and that she is human. Other wolves had found human mates but most local women that knew about the legends.   I need to protect her from this traitor in the pack, if Ezra thinks she’s just a random girl it’s safer than knowing she is my mate. He would love the opportunity to take her from me and make Wren his prisoner or kill her. I let out a low growl as I feel my animalistic side taking the forefront of my mind thinking of those situations. That will not happen.   Wren is curious and unpredictable to me still. She tried to leave already and I would hope she won’t try it again but she can’t be out on the pack lands without someone guarding her. It’s not a chance I am willing to take. She is smart, brave, and resourceful. I can see why the Goddess matched me with her. She will bend every rule and test every fiber of patience I have. I can feel her beginning to feel the bond between us but she is still unsure as to what it is. I need to spend more time with her. These few moments we’ve shared aren’t enough to gain her trust. Luckily I have an idea that will help her understand this life I want to share with her.    The shower stops and a few moments later Wren opens the door to the bathroom. Wrapped in only a towel and her deep auburn hair pulled into a bunch on her head with a clip. I can feel my excitement growing as I take in sight of her bare shoulders. I let out a breath I was holding without realizing it. It comes out as a low growl and she stops frozen while she is rummaging around in the dresser.    WREN POV   After my shower I tossed my hair into a towel to soak up most of the water. I wrapped another towel around myself as I stepped out. Oh no! I was so concerned about getting out of Cal’s sight that I forgot to bring any clothes to change into. I looked through the drawers and cabinets quickly hoping there was something to put on. In the process I found a giant clip and remembered that I had lost all of my things in the crash, one of them being my hair clip. I took my hair out of the towel and skillfully twisted it up into a bundle of red and brown on top of my head.  Okay I can do this just go to the drawer and get yourself some clothes. I kept my hand on the knob for a moment longer and the anticipation was going to keep building so I forced my hand to move, opening the door quickly. I bounded for the dresser that I had seen leggings and tees inside earlier. I reached the dresser and began my search for something to cover myself decently since I wasn’t going to be sleeping in the room alone tonight per Cal’s request.  I had made myself a selection of grey leggings and a white sleeping tee shirt when I heard Cal exhale a low growl which instead of frightening me sent a deep warm sensation to my stomach and low in my core. I tensed up my thighs afraid to move and become his pray.
