EPISODE 1: Something About Him
Rain.
Not the soft, poetic kind. The kind that soaks your clothes and makes you late. The kind that feels like the universe is screaming at you to turn around.
And maybe I should have.
I should have stayed in the cab. I should have skipped the party. I should have ignored the text from my best friend begging me to show up so she wouldn’t feel like a loser for going alone.
But I didn't.
And that was how I saw him again.
Seven years. That’s how long it had been. Seven years since I stood at my front porch, heart shattered, watching him drive away with nothing but a cold goodbye and the promise that he wouldn't be coming back.
And now here he was.
Soaking wet. Leaning against the balcony of someone else’s house like he owned the night. His jaw a little sharper. His frame broader. And those eyes… darker. Like he’d buried too many truths in them.
Cameron Hayes.
The boy I shouldn’t want.
The man I still do.
I froze halfway up the steps, trying to decide if it was too late to disappear.
But he looked up.
And when our eyes locked, time folded in on itself.
He didn’t smile. He didn’t look surprised. Just raised his glass like he’d been expecting me all along.
"Long time, Aurora."
God, even his voice sounded dangerous.
I tried to steady my breathing. I wasn’t that girl anymore—the girl who cried in a hoodie for three months straight after he left. I was different now.
Strong.
Confident.
Untouchable.
At least, that’s what I told myself.
"Didn’t think you’d show your face around here again," I said, forcing a smirk that barely held.
Cameron tilted his head. “Didn’t think you’d still be here.”
The words stung more than I expected.
I stepped onto the balcony beside him, trying to ignore the pull in my chest. The ache that never really left. “What are you doing back?”
His eyes lingered on me for a long beat. “That’s complicated.”
“Try me.”
“I came back for my father’s company. He’s retiring.”
I blinked. “You hated that company.”
“Still do,” he said. “But some things… we don’t run from.”
I wasn’t sure if he meant the company—or me.
The air between us thickened. Rain tapped gently on the railing now, easing into something quieter, like even the storm was holding its breath.
“Look,” I said, backing away. “Whatever game you’re playing, I’m not part of it.”
“I’m not playing anything, Aurora.”
“You always were.”
He stepped closer, close enough for me to smell the warmth of his cologne—woodsy, familiar, dangerous. His voice dropped an octave, low and steady.
“You think I came back for business?” he said. “Maybe I came back because I made the biggest mistake of my life walking away.”
I hated the way my heart stuttered.
I hated how much I wanted to believe him.
Because he wasn’t mine anymore. I was engaged now.
To his brother.
